It is learned from the news coverage of April 20, 2022 that, 3 HPG militants died in clashes between Turkish Armed Forces in Zap area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on April 17, 2022.
(04/254) Asylum Seeker Died in Kırklareli…
It is learned that a body belonging to a male asylum seeker was found on April 20, 2022, near the Çağlayık village of central district on of Kırklareli on the Turkey-Bulgaria border. The cause of death of the person in question was reported to be hypothermia.
(04/255) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…
The police intervened the press declaration in front of Çağlayan Courthouse in Istanbul on April 20, 2022; which was held to draw attention to Sibel Balaç and Gökhan Yıldırım, the prisoners on hunger strike. The police detained 5 people (Erkan Yıldırım, Feridun Osmanağaoğlu, Hasan Basri Yıldız, Haydar Doğan and Nergis Doğru) by using physical violence. Detained people are released on the same day.

On April 20, 2022, 4 people (Z. T., S. Y. K., H. B., M. K.) are detained in house raids in Izmir, through an investigation on Partizan, Yeni Demokrat Gençlik and Yeni Demokrat groups.

4 people (the Bureau Laborers Union branch chair Devrim Mol, the Left Party provincial chair Aysel Aydın, Community Houses branch chair Gülkan Gülseven and Community Houses member Ferdi Şabanoğlu) who were detained in Antalya on April 19, 2022; are released by the court on judicial control conditions on April 20, 2022.

On April 21, 2022, 8 people are detained in house raids in Bodrum district of Muğla, on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ in the Newroz celebration in the city on March 20, 2022. On April 5 and 13, 2022, 13 people were detained through the same investigation.

The trial of the case against Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, on the grounds of insulting members of the Supreme Election Committee, after cancellation of election results in Istanbul on March 31, 2019, is held at Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of First Instance No 7 on April 20, 2022.
The prosecutor declared legal opinion on the case and demanded sentence of 1 year 3 months and 15 days up to 4 years and 1 month for Ekrem İmamoğlu on the charge of ‘successive insult against public officers working as a board’. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial.

The trial of the case against the Republican People’s Party (CHP) Üsküdar district chair Suat Özçağdaş, on the grounds of taking pictures of Presidential Communications Director Fahrettin Altun’s house, is held at Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of First Instance No 17 on April 20, 2022. The prosecutor declared a new opinion on the case and demanded jail sentence up to 5 years for Suat Özçağdaş on the grounds of ‘violating personal privacy’, although the former demand was acquittal. The court adjourned the trial to April 20, 2022.

The final trial of the case against journalist Rüstem Batum on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ on social media, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 41 on April 20, 2022. The court acquitted Rüstem Batum.

The final trial of the case against lawyer Çağrı Ayhan Şenel, for a social media post reading “The court board will be responsible in case something happens to the child and mother”, regarding the court board rejecting the request for arrest in the lawsuit filed on allegations of violence against women and sexual abuse of children; is held at Aksaray Heavy Penal Court No 1 on April 20, 2022. The court ruled acquittal.
(04/264) Dedeoğulları Case…
The trial of the case against 9 people including 2 arrestees, about the racist attack against Dedeoğulları family on May 12, 2021 where 7 family members got wounded, is held at Konya Heavy Penal Court No 8 on April 20, 2022.
The indictment demands sentence for the defendants on the charges of ‘intentional injury’, ‘intentional injury with weapons’ and ‘violation of immunity of residence’.
The court decided to continue detention of 2 arrestees and refused to arrest other defendants and adjourned the trial to July 1, 2022.

The first trial of the closure case of MEBYA-DER (Association of People Lost Their Relatives in the Cradle of Civilizations) is held at Diyarbakır Civil Court of First Instance No 9 on April 20, 2022. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to June 29, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 20, 2022, that the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTUK) issued Amed Radio channel to with an administrative fine of 12,804 Turkish Liras on the grounds of not submitting a statement of income.
(04/267) Covid-19 Pandemic…
The Ministry of Health declared that 18 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 3,668 as of April 20, 2022.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 98,628 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 15,007,364 as of April 20, 2022.
