(09/201) Torture and Ill-Treatment Under Custody in Hakkari…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 21, 2022 that, a person named Esat Çakmak, who was detained in house raids following the military operation in the rural areas of Hakkari on September 18, 2022; was subjected to torture and ill-treatment at Yüksekova District Security Directorate.

(09/202) People Forced to be Police Informant in Hakkari…

It is learned that 10 people who were detained in house raids following the military operation in the rural areas of Hakkari on September 18, 2022 and were released on September 21, 2022; were detained once again by the gendarmerie on the same day and were forced to be police informants at the station they were taken to.

(09/203) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Istanbul…

It is learned that 2 people were who were handcuffed behind their backs and forced to lie down during a house raid in Esenyurt district of Istanbul on September 21, 2022; were subjected to verbal and physical violence.

(09/204) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on September 20, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.

(09/205) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened in the press declaration held in front of Çağlayan Courthouse in Istanbul on September 21, 2022; before the trial of the case against 46 people including Saturday Mothers/People and right defenders who were detained in the police intervention against 700th week of Saturday Mothers/ People protests. The police detained 16 people including the Human Rights Association (IHD) Istanbul branch chair Gülseren Yoleri, by physical violence and handcuffing them behind their backs. It is learned that the police prevented journalists from recording and Artı TV reporter Meral Danyıldız was injured at the hand as a result of physical violence. Lawyers Meriç Eyüboğlu, Efkan Bolaç and Gülseren Yoleri were released after health controls on the same day.

Detained people are: Meriç Eyüboğlu, Efkan Bolaç, Gülseren Yoleri, Fatma Ümit Sezer, Zekiye Kürkçüoğlu, Ali Tosun, Suat Demir, Burcu Ballıktaş Bingöllü, Leman Yurtsever, Alper Taş, Murat Akbaş, Cihan Uyanık, Uğur Tuncer, Yalçın Köse, Sercan Sinecan, Faruk Eren.

(09/206) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police prevented the press declaration to be held in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on September 20, 2022, regarding death of Mahsa Amini as a result of torture and other ill-treatment by the police in Iran. The police intervened in the march after the prevention and detained 2 people.

(09/207) Detained Musician in Aydın…

Musician Kadir Çat is detained on September 20, 2022, on the grounds of the song he sang at an event of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in Aydın. Kadir Çat is released after the statement procedures on the same day.

(09/208) Detained People in Hakkari…

10 of 11 people who were detained in house raids following the military operation in the rural areas of Yüksekova district of Hakkari on September 18, 2022, are released by the court on September 21, 2022. It is learned that 1 person is still under custody.

09/209) The Case Against Saturday Mothers/People in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against 46 people including Saturday Mothers/People and right defenders who were detained in the police intervention against 700th week of Saturday Mothers/ People protests, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 21 on September 21, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for 46 people on the charge of ‘violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations’. After defence hearings and declarations, the court adjourned the trial to February 3, 2023.

(09/210) Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor on Trial…

The trial of the case against Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, on the grounds of insulting members of the Supreme Election Committee, after cancellation of election results in Istanbul on March 31, 2019, is held at Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of First Instance No 7 on September 21, 2022. The indictment demands sentence of 1 year 3 months and 15 days up to 4 years and 1 month for Ekrem İmamoğlu on the charge of ‘successive insult against public officers working as a board’. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to November 11, 2022.

(09/211) People on Trial for Protests Against New Rector Appointment to Boğaziçi University…

The trial of the case against 23 people for the demonstration held in Kadıköy district of Istanbul on February 2, 2021 to protest new rector appointment to Boğaziçi University, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 38 on September 20, 2022. After defence hearings the court refused to lift the judicial control conditions and adjourned the trial to November 8, 2022.

2 of the defendants (Anıl Akyüz and Şilan Delipalta) were arrested in February 2021 and were released by the court on April 2, 2021.

(09/212) Right Defenders and Political Party Executives on Trial in Van…

The first trial of the case against 9 people including the Human Rights Association (IHD) Van branch chair Ömer Işık and MAZLUM-DER former executive Yakup Aslan, for participating in the monitoring committee consisting of representatives of non-governmental organisations upon the call of IHD regarding the reconciliation process in 2013, is held at Van Heavy Penal Court No. 2 on September 20, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for 9 people (The Democratic Regions Party [DBP] İpekyolu district co-chair Behice Abi, İHD Van branch former chair Ömer Işık, Salih İpek, Harun Okay, Yılmaz Berki, Atilla Kumli, Yakup Aslan, Evin Keskin and Abdulkerim Bayıt) on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ for their activities within the committee. 9 people joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system. After defence hearings the court released 9 people and adjourned the trial.

9 people were detained on June 3, 2022 and were arrested by the court on June 9, 2022.

(09/213) CHP Executive on Trial in Istanbul…

The final trial of the case against CHP Üsküdar district chair Suat Özçağdaş, on the grounds of taking pictures of Presidential Communications Director Fahrettin Altun’s house, is held at Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of First Instance No 17 on September 21, 2022. The chief judge took the journalists out of the court room on the grounds of lack of place. The court acquitted Suat Özçağdaş.

(09/214) Association Member on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against Women’s Academy member Figen Aras through the investigation against Rosa Women’s Association is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 10 on September 21, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for Figen Aras on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to December 7, 2022.

Figen Aras was detained on April 5, 2021 and was arrested on April 8, 2021. The court has released her at the first trial on September 22, 2021.

(09/215) People on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against 10 people (Aydın Kaplan, Burhan Topçu, Cahit Karçık, İbrahim Baran, İbrahim Kaplan, Mesut Karçık, Savaş Karçık, Şefik Karçık, Tahsin Karçık and Umut Kaplan) is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 28 on September 21, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for 10 people on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’. 10 people joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system. The court released 10 people and adjourned the trial to January 19, 2023.

10 people were detained at the police station on June 14, 2022 to where they were called for statement through the investigation on the grounds of wearing yellow-red-green scarfs and chanting slogans at a wedding ceremony held in Esenyurt district of Istanbul, and they were arrested by the court on June 16, 2022.

(09/216) Ban of Events in Kağıthane District…

Kağıthane District Governorate’s Office made an announcement on September 21, 2022 and banned all protests, demonstrations, assemblies, press declarations, sit-ins and so on for 1 day as of September 21, 2022; on the grounds of the press declaration about the trial of the case against Saturday Mothers/People.

(09/217) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On September 20, 2022, 17 people are detained in operations covering 10 cities through an Ankara based investigation.

On September 21, 2022, 10 people are detained in Adana.
