It is learned that a bus from Antalya to Diyarbakır was attacked by anonymous persons throwing stones at the bus in Gazipaşa district, injuring 2 people, on September 20, 2021.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 20, 2021 that, the dress brought to Leyla Güven, the Democratic Society Congress (DTK) co-chair who is kept in Elazığ Women’s Prison, was not given to her by prison administration because of its colours.
(09/170) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…
The police intervened the students staying in tents in Ilhan Erdost Park, for their housing rights and detained at least 7 people on September 20, 2021. Detained people are released after statement procedures on the same day.

On September 20, 2021, 1 person is detained in Silvan district of Diyarbakır. The reason of detention is unknown.
(09/172) Journalist on Trial in Diyarbakır…
The trial of the case against journalist Durket Süren is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 11 on September 20, 2021.
The indictment demands jail sentence for Durket Süren from 1 year to 8 years, on the charge of ‘aiding an illegal organisation’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’, for her social media posts and distributing banned issues of Azadiya Welat and Özgür Gündem newspapers which are closed down by state of emergency decrees.
After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to December 13, 2021.

The trial of the case against Hatice Kocaman, former Siirt MP of HDP is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 9 on September 20, 2021.
The indictment demands sentence for Hatice Kocaman on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ for participating in activities of Democratic Society Congress (DTK).
Hatice Kocaman joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system. After defence hearings the court decided to release Hatice Kocaman and adjourned he trial. Hatice Kocaman was arrested by the court on January 20, 2021.
(09/174) Lawyer on Trial in Istanbul…
The trial of the case against lawyer Oya Aslan is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 37 on September 20, 2021.
The court decided to continue detention of Oya Aslan and adjourned the trial to December 13, 2021.
Oya Aslan was detained in Istanbul on December 20, 2019 and was arrested by the court on December 27, 2019.
(09/175) Security Officer on Trial for Death of Mehmet Uytun…
On October 9, 2009, a 16 month-old baby Mehmet Uytun, has been shot by a gas bomb shell which was used by the security officers intervening a protest, while he was on the balcony of his house in Cizre district of Şırnak. Following the non-prosecution decision of Cizre Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Constitutional Court has ruled to send the case back.
The retrial of the case against specialized sergeant H. A. is held at Cizre Penal Court of First Instance No 1 on September 20, 2021.
The court sentenced H. A. to 3 years on the charge of ‘reckless killing’ and converted the sentence to a fine of 18,200 Turkish Liras.
(09/176) Birol Yıldırım Case…
The first trial of the case against 12 police officers including 1 arrestee, for death of Birol Yıldırım at Esenyurt district police station in Istanbul on June 5, 2021; is held at Büyükçekmece Penal Court of First Instance No 3 on September 20, 2021.
The indictment demands 2 years and 8 months up to 9 years of sentence for deputy police chief İsmail S. and police officers Muhammet K., İsmail G., Muhammed Ş., Mustafa Ş., Erdoğan K. and Bilal K. on the charge of ‘reckless killing’; and 1 year to 3 years of sentence for 5 police officers on the charge of ‘intentional injury on account of a public officer misusing his influence’.
The court decided to continue detention of İsmail S., and decided to send the case to a heavy penal court due to non-jurisdiction as to torture was committed.
(09/177) Police Threat to Journalist in Istanbul…
It is learned that journalist Canan Coşkun who was reporting on the trial regarding death of Birol Yıldırım at Esenyurt district police station, held on September 20, 2021 was threatened by the police saying “I hope you will experience it too”.
(09/178) Ban of Events in Mardin…
Mardin Governorate made a declaration on September 19, 2021 and banned demonstrations and open door meetings for 15 days as of September 19, 2021. The governorate’s office also announced that press declarations, distributing leaflets, hanging posters and banners, carrying torches, hunger strikes, sit-in protests, opening stands and tents, collecting petitions and so on are subjected to the permit of local authority.

On September 20, 2021, 6 people are detained in Istanbul and 1 person is detained through another investigation in Istanbul.
(09/180) Covid-19 Pandemic…
The Ministry of Health declared that 213 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 26,688 as of September 20, 2021.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 62,231 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 6,850,339 as of September 20, 2021.
On September 20, 2021, doctor Halil İbrahim Varan in Adana lost his life due to Covid-19.
