(11/214) Prisoner Died…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 20, 2019 that Hasan Eskicioğlu (49) died due to heart attack in Mardin Prison. It is reported that Hasan Eskicioğlu was arrested on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ around 7 months ago, and had a heart attack in prison before, after which he was treated in hospital and taken back to prison again.

(11/215) Journalist Attacked in Ankara…

It is learned that Korkusuz newspaper writer Ahmet Takan was attacked by an unknown person in front of his house in Ankara on November 20, 2019.

(11/216) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1107 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on November 20, 2019 at 13.30, and at 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on November 20, 2019, 1 person (Mehmet Dersulu) and at 18.00 2 people (Mehmet Dersulu and Nazan Bozkurt) were detained.

Thus in total 3 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on November 20, 2019. It is learned detained people were released on the same days they were detained.

 

(11/217) Arrested Co-Mayor in Urfa…

Suruç district co-mayor Hatice Çevik who was detained in Urfa on November 15, 2019, is arrested on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ on November 20, 2019.

(11/218) Detained District Council Members in Ağrı…

3 people (city council member Ceren Barış, former provincial co-chair of People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Naile Barış and HDP member Hamit Taşdemir) who were detained in house raids in Ağrı on November 19, 2019 are released on November 20, 2019. It is reported that Hamit Taşdemir’s house was broken by the police and he was subjected to physical violence of the police.

(11/219) Raid to Political Party Offices in Antep…

8 of 57 members and executives of People’s Democratic Party (HDP) and Democratic Regions Party (DBP) who were detained by the police raiding HDP’s provincial office in Antep and offices in Şahinbey and Şehitkamil districts on November 14, 2019 are arrested on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on November 20, 2019. Arrested people are: HDP Antep provincial co-chair Müslüm Kılıç, DBP provincial co-chair Abdullah İnce, HDP Şehitkamil district co-chair Salman Tutumlu, Müslüm Özkan, Emin Kavak, Mehmet Gümüştekin, Süleyman Yağız and Serdar Yıldırım. On November 19, 2019, 5 people were arrested and 5 people were released on judicial control conditions. It is reported that 39 people are still under custody.

(11/220) Grup Yorum Band Members and Others on Trial in Istanbul…

The case against 15 people (5 arrested) including Grup Yorum music band members Helin Bölek and Bahar Kurt, on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘leading an illegal organisation’, on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 35 is held on November 20, 2019. The court rejected decided to release Helin Bölek, Bahar Kurt, Fikret Akar, Yeliz Kılıç and Dilan Uludağ and adjourned the trial to February 12, 2020. Istanbul Prosecutor’s Office appealed the release on the same day however Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 35 rejected the appeal.

On November 20, 2019, 17 people are detained through an Izmir based investigation on Turkish Armed Forces personnel.

(11/223) Compensation Case Related to October 10 Ankara Massacre…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 20, 2019 that, Ankara Administrative Court No 12 sentenced Ministry of Interior and Ankara Governorate to pay 1.094.000 Turkish Liras as compensation to family of Veysel Atılgan (9) and İbrahim Atılgan who died due to bombing attack in Ankara on October 10, 2015. The court verdict states the following: “Providing safety of life and property of individuals is an essential duty of the state. It is considered that administration has failure in its service due to lack of taking measures according to the informative given recently”.
