It is learned that a prisoner named Abdullah Oran who was held at Ankara Sincan Prison died on March 21, 2023 due to heart attack.
(03/193) Child Subjected to Torture and Other Ill Treatment…
It is learnt that on March 21, 2023 in Lice district of Diyarbakır a child named Y. D. (14, m) was taken to a remote place by people who are allegedly police officers and subjected to torture and ill treatment. It is reported that Y. D. was forced to say that he was Turkish, he was forced to insult Kurdish people and he was forced to sing Turkish national anthem. Then Y. D. was released at streamside with his hands and feet tied. It is learned that there is a risk that Y. D: may lose one of his eyes.
- D. stated “They take me to remote place. They told me to say that I was Turkish. The beat me with the butt end of their riffles. Then they tied my hands and feet and throw me to a hole.”
The lawyer of the D. Ramazan Karaalp family stated “The child is living at Lice town centre. In the afternoon, while he was returning to his home with his friend, they were stopped by the police. The police, releasing the other child, who is 10 years old, took him to remote place. The beat him with the butt nd of their riffles While beating him, they also wanted him to they that he was Turkish and to insult Kurdish people. Whe the child refused the want him to memorize the Turkish National Anthem. They say ‘if you don’t memorize, we will come and shoot you in the head.’ Later they throw him to a swamp which is near to a stream passing through the town. They leave him in remote place with his mouth and hands tied. A villager, hearing the noise, noticed him and took him to hospital immediately. At Lice State Hospital they give him an assault incident report and then he was transferred to MedicalFaculty of Dicle University Hospital. At the moment he is at the hospital and there is risk that he may lose his right eye.

It is learned from the news coverage that, the number of contractors who were arrested for their responsibility in the buildings collapsed in Antep and Maraş earthquakes is 299 as of March 20, 2023.
The Minister of Family and Social Services made a statement on March 20, 2023 and declared that a total of 1,915 unaccompanied children were registered in the system, 1,733 of them were identified and given to their families, 99 children were in the hospital, 81 children were in the institutions of the ministry, and 38 children could not be identified.

It is leaned that people who want to go to the Newroz Celebration held in Diyarbakır on March 21, 2023 are not let in by the police. Police intervened the march which was made after the celebration and detained 160 people. They are released on March 22, 2023.

21 people were detained through an Antalya centred investigation on March 21, 2023 for sending money to prisoners. It is learned that detainees were taken to Antalya Gendarme Headquarter.

7 people, including People’s Democratic Part MYK member İdil Uğurlu, were detained in İzmir on March 22, 2023.
Names of the detainees: İdil Uğurlu, Behiye Yalçın, Selma Demir, Berfin Çiçek, Barış Kırmıztaş, Hayat İzgi ve Newroz Çelik.

The first trial of the case against Keskin Bayındır, Co-Chair of Democratic Regions Party (DBP), on the charges of ‘being a member of an illegal organisation’ is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 8 on March 22, 2023. Court released Keskin Bayındır and adjourned the trial.

The first trial of the case against Yeni Yaşam newspaper’s executive editor Ferhat Çelik and editor-in-chief Osman Akın for a news about Serhat Albayrak is held at İstanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 2 on March 21, 2023. Court adjourned the trial to September 19, 2023.

The trial of the case against poet Ahmet Telli for his speech he delivered and a poem he read at a press statement he participated is held Ankara Heavy Peal Court No. 26 on March 21, 2023. Court adjourned the trial to July 4, 2023.
