It is learned that 2 militants died in a clash between Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in the rural areas of Lice district of Diyarbakır on June 17, 2022.

(06/236) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Van…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 20, 2022 that, a person named K. A. was detained with torture and ill-treatment by the special operations police officers raiding a house in Sersul town of Başkale district of Van. It is reported that, those who react to the torture and ill-treatment against K. A. and to the special operations police officers firing into the air for minutes; were also subjected to physical violence.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 20, 2022 that, Yakup Cem Alkan, a prisoner in Maraş Türkoğlu L Type Prison lost his life. It is reported that the prison administration informed his family that he died as a result of suicide.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 21, 2022 that, prisoners in Adana Kürkçüler F Type Prison cannot use their social, cultural and sports rights. It is also stated in the news reports that the food given to prisoners is inadequate.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 21, 2022 that, prisoners in Adana Kürkçüler F Type Prison, were forced to mouth searches during hospital transfers and those who reject it were not referred to hospitals.

The police intervened the press declaration which were made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 20, 2022 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

The police intervened the press declaration of Şişli Municipality workers in front of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) in Ankara on June 20, 2022 and forced people away from the building by using physical violence.

(06/241) Interventions and Bans on Pride Month Events…

The police intervened in the World Refugee Day event, as part of LGBTI+ Pride Month, held by the House of Living Together in Datça district of Muğla on June 21, 2022, on the grounds of “no permission” and forced the participants out of the venue. The police also intervened in the press declaration held to protest prevention. It is learned that nobody was detained.

(06/242) Journalist on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against journalist Beritan Canözer, for social media posts of an account that does not belong to her, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 4 on June 21, 2022. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to October 13, 2022.

(06/243) Students on Trial for Participating in a Protest in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against 12 students of Boğaziçi University, who have been detained for carrying a “rainbow flag” in a protest against the new rector appointed by President, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 24 on June 21, 2022.

The court decided to send the case file to the prosecutor for legal opinion and adjourned the trial to September 20, 2022.

(06/244) Diyarbakır JITEM / Musa Anter Case…

The consolidated case on the murder of Musa Anter in Diyarbakır in 1992 and the activities of JITEM (Gendarmerie Intelligence and Anti-Terror Unit) in Diyarbakır is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 6 on June 20, 2022.

The case known as the “JITEM Main Case” on Diyarbakır Penal Court No 1 and the case regarding the murder of Musa Anter has been consolidated by the Court of Cassation on January 29, 2016.

The court rejected the intervention requests of the Human Rights Association (İHD) and the Lawyers’ Association for Freedom (ÖHD) on the grounds that they were “not directly harmed by the crime” and adjourned the trial to September 15, 2022.

(06/245) Police Officer on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The final trial of the case against police officer K. B., for the killing of Recep Hantaş, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 7 on June 21, 2022. Recep Hantaş was killed by police fire while he was collecting waste paper in Diyarbakır on April 14, 2019.

The indictment demands 18 to 25 years of sentence on the charge of ‘murder with probable intent’ for the police officer.

The court acquitted the defendant police officer.
