(06/161) Civilians Who Were Injured Due to Explosion in Hakkari…

On June 20, 2019, 2 people, whose names are unknown, were injured due to an explosion in rural areas of Tütünlü village of Hakkari’s Şemdinli district. It is reported that 1 of them is injured heavily.

(06/162) People Who Were Subjected to Torture and Ill-Treatment of Police in Adana…

On June 20, 2019, 31 people including 5 children who were detained through an Adana based investigation on June 17, 2019, are brought to Adana Courthouse for extension of detention period. It is learned from the news coverage that detention period is extended 4 more days for those 31 people who were handcuffed behind their backs and were laid down on the floor at the courthouse and were subjected to physical violence. It is reported that lawyers who rejected this were also subjected to physical violence and 1 lawyer was taken forcefully to the police booth who was then released.

It is learned that Osman Altun, one of detained people, passed out due to violence and was taken to hospital. It is stated in the news reports that detainees were taken to Forensic Medicine Institution and got medical reports evidencing the violence.

Lawyer Özgür Yakut stated the following: “When I saw that a child under 18 was laid down and was kicked at the head, me and a colleague said ‘You cannot do this, this is unlawful’. And then two police officers took my arms and forced me to the police booth down there. The executive board members of the bar association arrived, they got me from there. When we went back to the hall the violence was going on. There were broken pieces of glass, young people were having nervous breakdown, and they were all handcuffed behind their backs”.

(06/163) Party Member Who Were Assaulted in Istanbul…

IYI Party Istanbul provincial organisation founder member Metin Bozkurt was assaulted in Beylikdüzü district of Istanbul by an anonymous group of 8 people. Metin Bozkurt was heavily wounded due to assault and was taken to hospital.

(06/164) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 954 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 20, 2019 at 13.30, and at 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on June 20, 2019, 2 people (Merve Demirel and Nazan Bozkurt) and at 18.00 2 people (Acun Karadağ and İlker Işık) were detained.

Thus in total 4 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on June 20, 2019. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

(06/165) Detained Lawyers and Others in Istanbul…

On June 20, 2019, 7 people including 4 lawyers are detained in the police raid to People’s Law Office in Istanbul. The names of detainees are: Lawyers Ebru Timtik, Ayşegül Çağatay, Görkem Ağdede, Nadide Özdemir and Gülser Sarıgül, Kamile Kayır, Özhan Aslan.

(06/166) Recep Hantaş Case…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 19, 2019 that police officer K.B. who was arrested in relation to Recep Hantaş’s death, was released on judicial control conditions by Diyarbakır Penal Court of Peace No 5 on May 24, 2019.

Recep Hantaş was shot by the police at Sümerpark in Diyarbakır on April 14, 2019, on the grounds of “disobeying stop warning” and police officer K.B. was arrested on the same day on the charge of ‘killing on conscious negligence’.

(06/167) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The final trial of the case against journalist Canan Coşkun, because of her report “Erdoğan ordered, journalism is arrested” on the arrest of Can Dündar and Erdem Gül, on Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 40, is held on June 20, 2019. The court acquitted Canan Coşkun on the charge od ‘insulting the President’.

(06/168) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against Osman Akın, executive editor of Yeni Yaşam newspaper, for the news reports on hunger strikes, is held on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 28 on June 20, 2019. The indictment demands sentence for Osman Akın on the charge of ‘making successive propaganda for an illegal organisation’. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to October 22, 2019.

(06/169) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The final trial of the case against journalist Mehmet Sanri, because of “Kurdistan” expression in his social media posts is held on Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 37 on June 20, 2019. The court stated that “Kurdistan is a word used by high-order executives and using this word does not have an effect of disturbing public order” and acquitted Mehmet Sanri.

The case against Arat Dink, who turned on himself to the prosecutor’s house as he declared his support to the academicians who are signatories of the petition “We Will Not be a Party to This Crime”, is held on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 36 on June 20, 2019. The court decided to wait for the appeal of the academicians to The Constitutional Court and adjourned the trial to October 9, 2019.

(06/171) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On June 20, 2019, 33 people are detained in operations covering 4 cities through an Izmir based investigation.

(06/172) Trials in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The final trial of the case known as “General Staff Structure Case”, against 224 people (176 arrestees and 13 fugitives including Fetullah Günel), about the incidents at General Staff Command during July 15 coup attempt, is held on Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 17 on June 20, 2019. The court sentenced 128 people to heavy life imprisonment (differing from 1 time to 141 times) on the charge of ‘violating the Constitution’ and on other charges. The court sentenced 23 people to life imprisonment on the charge of ‘violating the Constitution’. The court sentenced 24 people to jail penalties up to 15 years on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’; 3 people to 20 years each for ‘aiding to coup attempt’. The court acquitted 33 people and separated the case against 33 people.

(06/173) Proceedings Against Parliamentary Member…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 20, 2019 that, the proceeding against Workers’ Party of Turkey (TIP) chair and Istanbul MP Erkan Baş is submitted to the Constitution and Justice Committee of the Grand National Assembly, demanding legal impunity lift. It is learned that the reason of proceeding is a case opened against Erkan Baş for a protest held in Kadıköy district of Istanbul on September 26, 2016.

(06/174) Ban of Events in Şırnak…

Şırnak Governorate made a declaration on June 20, 2019 and announced that all events such as demonstrations, press declarations, meetings, sit-ins and opening stands and so on are banned for 15 days as of June 20, 2019.

(06/175) Ban of Event in Muş…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 20, 2019 that, “Defending Peace Perspective in a Challenging Context” talk, organized by Muş Bar Association and The Confederation of Public Employees’ Trade Unions (KESK) is banned by Muş Governorate.
