(12/196) Person Subjected to Phobic Attack in Mardin…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 21, 2022, that M. O., an LGBTI+ and their friend were subjected to a phobic attack on December 18, 2022, in Artuklu district of Mardin and their application to the Mardin Family Court with a request for protection was rejected on the grounds that “there is no persistent harassment”.

M. O. stated the following to the press: “A person we spoke to at the bus stop got into a vehicle that was coming at that time and invited us by saying ‘do not wait in the cold weather, let us drop you off at your destination’. Even though we hesitated, we got on. Kadir Karataş, who beat me last year, was also in the vehicle. After a little progress, he pulled the handbrake of the car and threatened and insulted me as ‘do you remember me, get out of the car and I will kill you’. He got out of the car and tried to get my friend out of the car by punching. At that time, the other person we met at the bus stop started to attack me. They got my friend out of the car and battered, so I started running towards the gendarmerie station by running away at that time. I called the police emergency line.”

It is learned that an attack was carried on against Tele1 television channel reporter and cameraman who were making a street interview in Esenler district of Istanbul on December 20, 2022 about the jail sentence given to the Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu; and that cameraman Furkan Durmaz was subjected to physical violence.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 21, 2022 that, 4 Syrian prisoners in Izmir Şakran T Type Prison No. 4 were transferred to Konya Ereğli T Type Prison under coercion.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 21, 2022 that, 46 prisoners were kept in a ward for 10 in Aydın Söke T Type Prison.

It is learned that the appeal made on December 20, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.

(12/200) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration which was made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on December 20, 2022 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(12/201) Detained People in Ankara…

It is learned that 6 people including Mehmet Dersulu, one of the participators of “I Want My Job Back” protests, are detained in house raids in Ankara.

Detained people are: Mehmet Dersulu, İsmail Cengiz Mumcu, Merve Demirel, Ömer Akyel, Şengül Özdemir and Turan Aktaş.

It is learned that 1 person (Gökhan Karakuş) is detained in a house raid in Pertek district of Tunceli on December 21, 2022. The reason for detention is unknown.

It is learned that 3 people (Abdullah İş, Şerif Çakar, Mustafa Erol) in house raids in Batman on December 21, 2022. The reason for detention is unknown.

(12/204) Detained People in Diyarbakır…

17 people who were detained in Diyarbakır on December 17, 2022 are released after statement procedures at the police on December 20, 2022. Detained people were: Gülbahar Pervane, Sohbet Yıldız, Seyhan Çelik, Devrim Roni Atik, Erhan Sakar, Nihat Kardaş, Süleyman Varlı, Suphi Orhan, Muhsin Acar, Fermandar Kardeş, Cemal Alkan, Berat Çiftkuran, Mazlum Kardaş, Fesih Daşçi, İbrahim Tunç, Mahsum Fidan and Necdet Sapan.

(12/205) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against 6 employees of Özgürlükçü Demokrasi newspaper which was closed down by a state of emergency decree, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 23 on December 21, 2022. The court decided to demand an expert report on “whether Engin Publishing Company was established to achieve the organizational goals, apart from commercial concerns, and whether it carries out activities within this framework” and rejected to lift judicial control conditions and adjourned the trial to March 22, 2023.

The trial of the case against journalists Osman Akın and Veysi Sarısözen is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 13 on December 21, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for 2 journalists on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’. The court adjourned the trial to March 23, 2022.

The final trial of the case against journalist Sedef Kabaş, on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ by her expressions on a television channel, is held at Istanbul Civil Court of First Instance No. 41 on December 21, 2022. The court sentenced Sedef Kabaş to pay 25,000 Turkish Liras for non-pecuniary damages.

(12/208) Lawyer on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against lawyer Newroz Uysal, through an investigation on the Democratic Society Congress (DTK) is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 10 on December 21, 2022. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to March 15, 2023.

(12/209) Investigation Against Mayor…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 21, 2022 that the investigation against Filiz Ceritoğlu Sengel, the Republican People’s Party (CHP) mayor of Selçuk district of Izmir, on the grounds of removal of the banners reading “Love Erdoğan” hung in the district without the municipality’s permission, is granted by the Ministry of Interior. It is also learned that the objection to the investigation permission was rejected by the Penal Department No. 1 of the Council of State.

(12/210) Musician on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against musician Gülşen Bayraktar Çolakoğlu, on the grounds of the expressions that she allegedly used at a concert is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 11 on December 21, 2022. The indictment demands sentence from 1 year up to 3 years for Gülşen Bayraktar Çolakoğlu on the charge of ‘inciting hatred and hostility among public’. The court accepted the intervention demand of the Önder Religious Vocational High School Alumni Association. The court decided to send the case file to the prosecutor for legal opinion and adjourned the trial to March 1, 2023.

Gülşen Bayraktar Çolakoğlu was detained and arrested on August 25, 2022; and she was released on house confinement upon the objection on August 29, 2022. The house confinement decision was lifted on September 12, 2022.
