(05/199) Operations and Attacks…

The Ministry of National Defence announced that 1 soldier (Tunahan Erbaşı) died in an attack in Metina area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on May 20, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 21, 2022 that, 8 militants died in clashes between Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Zap area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government in April 2022.

(05/200) Person Died in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of May 20, 2022 that, a prisoner (Y. E. Y.) died in Adana Ceyhan M Type Prison. It is claimed that the reason of death was suicide.

(05/201) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of May 21, 2022 that, the number of prisoners kept in the women’s ward of Denizli T Type Prison is over capacity and personal belongings of the prisoners were seized during ward searches.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 21, 2022 that, the food given to prisoners in Urfa Penal Institutions Compound is inadequate and of poor quality.

(05/202) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on May 20, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, in order to visit them was not responded.

It is learned that DHA reporter and cameraman were attacked by a group as they were reporting on the demonstration of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) in Maltepe district of Istanbul on May 21, 2022.

(05/204) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened in the march of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Youth Assembly members in Şişli district of Istanbul on May 20, 2022, to protest detention of HDP members in Diyarbakır. It is learned that at least 4 people (Sedat Uğraş, Murat Doğan, Duran Turgay, Livan Orman) are detained by using physical violence. Detained people are released after statement procedures on the same day.

(05/205) Police Intervention to Protests in Adana, Hatay and Istanbul…

The police intervened the press declaration of the Furkan Foundation members demanding release of arrested members and executives of the foundation, held in Istanbul on May 22, 2022. The police detained numerous people by using physical violence. Detained people are released after statement procedures on the same day.

The police used pepper spray and batons to intervene the press declaration in Adana on May 22, 2022. It is learned that numerous people were detained and at least 3 people were injured.

The police intervened in the press declaration in İskenderun district of Hatay on May 22, 2022 and detained 11 people by using physical violence. The names of detained people are unknown.

(05/206) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the march after the press declaration of HDP, the Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK) and the Democratic Regions party (DBP), regarding the military operations in the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government, which was held in Istanbul on May 22, 2022. The police detained at least 25 people including lawyer Veysi Eski and the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) co-chair Şahin Tümüklü.

Detained people are: Şahin Tümüklü, Veysi Eski, HDP Kadıköy district co-chair Koray Türkay, Fatma Yeni, Zeki Adar, Güler Karagöl, Aliye Gömek, Meral Atman, Ferhat Yeğin, Ercan Sağlam, Çayan Yılmaz, Dinçer Gün, Mehmet Sait Bor, Lütfiye Baydemir, Rana Berk, İsmail Aktepe, Dilek Demir, Hüseyin Fidanboy, Nezir Altıntaş, Metin Şahin, Abdulcabbar Çakmak, Ersin Dülek, Veysi Al, Mehti Akkuş, İsmail Akpınar.

(05/207) Detained HDP Members in Diyarbakır…

On May 19, 2022, 13 people including HDP executives and HDP Youth Assembly members have been detained in house raids in Diyarbakır. 10 of them are arrested by the court on May 20, 2022 while 3 people are released provided that 2 of them will be on judicial control conditions.

Arrested people are: Halide Türkoğlu, Çekdar Budak, Sevim Akdağ, Zeliha Kocaman, Betül Ünsal, Metin Yılmaz, Beritan Yaşar, Hamza Ağırman, Esengül Kılıç and Mustafa Kurt.

(05/208) Detained Musician in Istanbul…

Musician Zelal Gökçe is detained on the grounds of a warrant, at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen airport where she arrived from Scotland on May 20, 2022. Zelal Gökçe is released after statement procedures on the same day.

(05/209) Investigation Against Journalist in Istanbul…

It is learned that an investigation was launched against journalist Ruken Tuncel, upon the complaint of Ülkü Özbey, a lecturer at Munzur University, over a social media post she made and that Ruken Tuncel made her official statement to Beylikdüzü District Security Directorate on May 20, 2022.

(05/210) Ban of event in Istanbul…

It is learned that the picnic of Dersim Associations’ Federation (DEDEF) which was to be held in Aydos forest in Istanbul on May 22, 2022, is banned by Istanbul Governorate on May 21, 2022.

(05/211) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

15 of 24 people who have been detained through a Konya based investigation were arrested by the court on May 21, 2022. 9 people were released on judicial control conditions.

2 of 3 people who have been detained in Edirne in an alleged attempt to illegally flee abroad, are arrested by the court on May 22, 2022 while 1 of them is released.

(05/212) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 4 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 1,017 as of May 20, 2022.

The Ministry of Health declared that 3 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 1,264 as of May 21, 2022.

The Ministry of Health declared that 5 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 905 as of May 22, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 98,930 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 15,063,248 as of May 22, 2022.
