(06/130) Prisoner Denied Access to Healthcare…

According to news reports published on June 22, 2025, Birindar Gezici, a prisoner held at Erzurum H Type Prison, was arrested on March 9, 2025, and taken to a police station where he was subjected to torture and other ill-treatment, resulting in 50% loss of vision, tremors in his hands, and permanent damage to his leg. It was learned that he was not transferred to the hospital.

(06/131) No Response to Request for Meeting with Abdullah Öcalan…

It has been learned that the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office did not respond to the requests for a meeting made on June 20, 2025, by the families and legal guardians of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım, Veysi Aktaş, Engin Atabey, Zeki Bayhan, and Mahmut Yamalak, who are being held in Imralı Prison.

(06/132) Prisoners whose release was adjourned by the Prison Administration and Observation Board…

According to news reports on June 21, 2025, the release of Nurcan Aslan, a prisoner held in Erzincan Women’s Prison who had completed her prison sentence, was postponed for three months by the Prison Administration and Observation Board (CİGK) on the grounds that she had not shown remorse.

According to news reports on June 21, 2025, the release of Beyar Uğurlu, who was held in Elazığ High Security Prison No. 2 and completed his life sentence on June 17, 2025, was postponed for six months by a decision of the CİGK on the grounds that he did not express remorse.

On June 22, 2025, police intervened in the Kocaeli stage of the Justice March initiated by the Pensioners’ Assembly in Istanbul and detained six people whose names were not disclosed in the Derince district.

(06/134) Interventions and Bans Targeting Pride Month…

The Şişli District Governor’s Office in Istanbul announced on June 21, 2026, that it would ban meetings, marches, press statements, sit-ins, setting up stalls, erecting tents, distributing leaflets, protests, and similar actions and events within the district boundaries for one day prior to the Trans Pride March scheduled for June 22, 2025.

The Istanbul Governor’s Office announced on June 21, 2025, that Taksim Square in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul will be closed off with police barriers, and that Istiklal Avenue, Sıraselviler Avenue, and connected streets will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. According to news reports, it was also learned that the Taksim and Şişhane metro stations, as well as the Taksim-Kabataş funicular line, would be closed to traffic.

On June 22, 2025, police intervened in the Trans Pride March in the Kadıköy district of Istanbul and detained 39 people, including lawyers, using physical violence and handcuffing them. It was reported that one person was injured in the leg during the intervention. In addition to the intervention, a total of 7 people were detained after undergoing a GBT check. It was reported that among those detained were 3 children and 1 foreign national. It was learned that the 3 children were released after giving their statements to the police on the same day. All 43 people were released on June 23, 2025, 6 of them under judicial control.

(06/135) Journalist Arrested in Istanbul…

Journalist Fatih Altaylı, who was detained in Istanbul on June 21, 2025, due to comments he made on social media, was arrested on June 22, 2025, by a magistrate’s court on charges of “threatening the president.”

Following the publication, it was learned that the President’s Chief Advisor made a social media post about Fatih Altaylı saying, “Altaylı! The water is starting to heat up.”

(06/136) Person Detained in Mersin for Attending a Grup Yorum Concert in Belgium…

According to a statement made by lawyer Tugay Bek on June 21, 2025, a person who arrived in Turkey from abroad on June 21, 2025, was detained at Mersin Çukurova Airport on the grounds of “membership in an organization” as part of an Istanbul-based investigation into a Grup Yorum concert held in Belgium.

and was released on June 22, 2025, after giving a statement to the police.

On June 19, 2025, two individuals named Mustafa Keleş and Murat Keleş were detained as part of an investigation targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. They were arrested on June 20, 2025, by a magistrate’s court on charges of “taking bribes” and “being a member of a criminal organization.”

(06/138) Trial of a Journalist in Istanbul…

The trial of journalist Barış Terkoğlu, who was charged based on three opinion pieces published in Cumhuriyet newspaper, continued on June 19, 2025, at the Istanbul Court of First Instance No. 2, following a complaint filed by the Istanbul Anatolia Chief Public Prosecutor. The indictment seeks to punish Barış Terkoğlu for “defamation.”

The court ajourned the hearing until December 11, 2025.

(04/139) People on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of 139 people on charges of participating in protests against the arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu began on June 20, 2025, at the Istanbul 49th Criminal Court of First Instance.

The indictment seeks the punishment of 139 individuals for “violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911.” The court adjourned the hearing until June 30, 2025.

(06/140) Persons on Trial in Istanbul…

The final hearing of the case against eight individuals accused of participating in protests demanding the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was held on June 20, 2025, at the Istanbul Court of First Instance No. 58. The court acquitted the eight individuals of the charge of “violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911.”

(06/141) Persons on Trial in Diyarbakır…

Mehmet Fatih Taş and Fatma Ay, who were co-mayors of the Kulp district of Diyarbakır at the time, Mehmet Abidin Karaman, co-chair of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) district branch, Şener Aktaş, director of public works at the Kulp Municipality, Mehmet Emin Ay, whose candidacy for mayor was rejected by the High Election Board, Kulp Municipal Council member Yücel Çete, Ümit Fidan, and Kendal Barut, who was added to the case later, were charged with “making organization propaganda,” “premeditated murder, unauthorized possession or transfer of dangerous materials,” “attempting to destroy the unity of the state and the integrity of the country,” “praising a crime and a criminal,” and “arson, flooding, destruction, drowning, bombing, or killing by using nuclear, biological, or chemical weapons” against the defendants. The trial continued on June 19, 2025. The court decided to continue Kendal Barut’s detention and adjourned the hearing until September 16, 2025.

Mehmet Fatih Taş, Fatma Ay, Şener Aktaş, and Mehmet Emin Ay, along with Abidin Karaman, were detained on September 12, 2019, following a bomb attack in the district of Kulp that killed seven people, including village guards.

They were arrested by the court to which they were referred on September 16, 2019, and released at the first hearing of the case on December 11, 2019. Kendal Barut was arrested on May 16, 2021.
