It is learned from the news coverage of September 17, 2022 that, 4 militants died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in the rural areas of Van on August 8, 2022.

It is learned that a shepherd (Zekeriya Ş., 20) who was grazing his sheep in the Marinos region of Beytüşşebap district of Şırnak was injured as a result of the explosion of an object he found.
(09/189) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…
The police intervened in the members of Sky is Our Roof movement, who set up a tent at Kurtuluş Park, Ankara on September 19, 2022 and forced the students out of the park. It is also learned that the police prevented a journalist from recording and threatened the journalist by saying “Turn the phone off or we will do the necessary to you too”.

The final trial of the case against Yeni Yaşam newspaper’s reporter Hatice Şahin is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 9 on September 19, 2022. The court sentenced Hatice Şahin to 6 years and 3 months on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

The final trial of the case against Feleknaz Aslan, on the grounds of carrying a red-yellow-green scarf at the Newroz celebration in Hatay in 2015, is held at Hatay Heavy Penal Court No. 3 on September 20, 2022. The court sentenced Feleknaz Aslan to 10 months on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and converted the jail sentence to a judicial fine of 6,000 Turkish Liras.

The trial of the case against Şahide Orman, on the grounds of carrying a red-yellow-green scarf at the Newroz celebrations in Hatay in 2015 and 2022, is held at Hatay Heavy Penal Court No. 3 on September 20, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to December 1, 2022.
(09/193) The Case Against Retired Military Officers for Declaration
The trial of the case against 104 former navy officers on the grounds of the declaration about Montreux Convention, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 20 on September 19, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for 104 officers on the charge of ‘agreement to commit crimes against the security of the state and the constitutional order’. The court adjourned the trial to October 7, 2022.

The trial of the case against 11 people including 3 arrestees (Mehmet Altun, Lütfi Keleş and Ali Keleş), for the racist attack which killed 7 members of Dedeoğulları family in Meram district of Konya on July 30, 2021; is held at Konya Heavy Penal Court No 4 on September 20, 2022. The court decided to continue detention of 3 people, rejected to arrest other defendants and adjourned the trial to October 27, 2022.

Police officer Volkan Hicret has been sentenced to life imprisonment and 20 years by Izmir Heavy Penal Court No 4, on the grounds of sexually assaulting and killing trans woman Hande Buse Şeker in Izmir on January 9, 2019. As the local court’s verdict was reversed by Izmir Regional Court, the retrial of the case is held on September 19, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to December 12, 2022.
(09/196) Police Officer on Trial in Şırnak…
It is learned that the indictment of Şırnak Public Prosecutor’s Office against the police officer S. E., on the grounds of injuring lawyer Serkan Karakaş by hitting him with his vehicle on April 10, 2022, is accepted by Şırnak Penal Court of First Instance on September 19, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for the police officer on the charge of ‘intentional injury’. The first trial will be held on October 7, 2022. It is also stated in the news reports that the police officer who was arrested after the incident was released on house confinement.

It is learned that Istanbul Governorate’s office did not permit investigation against police officers, upon the criminal complaint regarding the police violence that the journalists were subjected to during the police intervention against the protest held in Istanbul on May 31, 2022 to commemorate the ninth year of the Gezi Park protests.
(09/198) The Constitutional Court Decision on Gülsüm Elvan…
It is learned from the news coverage of September 19, 2022 that the Constitutional Court has concluded on the appeal of Gülsüm Elvan, whose arm was broken as a result of torture and ill-treatment of the police during a protest in 2017. The court has stated in its decision dated July 4, 2022 that, the ban on torture and ill-treatment was violated and Gülsüm Elvan should be paid a compensation of 20,000 Turkish Liras and that the decision will be sent to Istanbul Public Prosecutor’ Office for re-investigation.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 19, 2022 that, 100 issues of Kurdish newspaper Xwebun were confiscated by the police with no reason, at Diyarbakır Bus Terminal.
