It is learned from the news coverage of 20 November 2024 that, 1 militant died in a clash between Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Metina area of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) on 28 June 2024.
(11/198) Syrian Child Who Lost His Life in an Armed Attack…
It is learned from the news coverage of 19 November 2024 that, a Syrian refugee/asylum seeker child named Selim Attal (14, m) and his friend Samet were wounded due to an armed attack in an argument in the Küçükçekmece district of Istanbul on 18 November 2024. Selim Attal lost his life in hospital. It is reported in the news that 3 people were detained.
Ala Attal, the father of the child who lost his life, stated the following to the press: “He left the house with his brother. He left something somewhere. Half an hour later I was informed, they said ‘come urgently’. When I went to the hospital, my child was dead. One person shot my son with a gun, I don’t understand how it happened. I don’t know in detail, my child is here, and his brother is at the police station. They took his brother to the police station last night to take his statement, he still hasn’t come out”.
(11/199) The Child Who Died Suspiciously in Niğde Accessible Life Care Rehabilitation and Family Counselling Center…
It is learned from the news coverage of November 19, 2024, that, M.Ç. (9), a child under protection in Niğde Accessible Life, Care, Rehabilitation and Family Counselling Center of the Ministry of Family and Social Services, lost his life suspiciously on July 22, 2024.
The Governorate of Niğde announced on 19 November 2024 that the autopsy report of M.Ç. revealed that he died due to complications of epilepsy, no trauma was found and an investigation was initiated.

It is learned from the news coverage of 20 November 2024 that, 1 child named Efe C.D. (8, m) was wounded when a police officer named G.Ö. (50), who was on guard duty at a police housing in Aksaray, accidentally discharged his gun while he was cleaning it. It is reported in the news that the injured child was taken under treatment at Aksaray Training and Research Hospital and police officer G.Ö. is still in police custody.

It is learned from the news coverage of 19 November 2024 that, Mersin Toroslar Mayor Abdurrahman Yıldız was verbally and physically attacked by a group of people who came in front of the municipality on 18 November 2024 and chanted slogans for the appointment of a trustee.
Mayor Abdurrahman Yıldız said the following in his statements reflected in the press: “Yesterday, our municipality was raided, to put it mildly, by a group of 40-50 people who called themselves market vendors, but who I know were not market vendors because I know most of them (…) The Toroslar Security Directorate, which has 560 police officers on duty, could not get our friends out of Toroslar Municipality for seven hours (…) An elected mayor was beaten and punched there. The personnel of the Security Directorate there, the Chief of Police, watched on. We had to go in, and do you know how we got out? We called our friends, family, and staff from the neighborhood. Thanks to our staff, we were able to get out of the municipality in the evening and in the opposite direction. Is this the treatment that an elected mayor deserves?’.
(11/202) Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Niğde Accessible Life Care Rehabilitation and Family Counselling Center…
The Governorate of Niğde announced on 19 November 2024 that in the investigation regarding the allegations that 1 child named M.Ç. (9), who was under protection at Niğde Accessible Life, Care, Rehabilitation and Family Counselling Center, lost his life on 22 July 2024 due to neglect and violence, neglect of duty, ill-treatment and violation of privacy against 15 children and 1 adult disabled citizen were detected, judicial proceedings were initiated against 26 care personnel, 14 of them were arrested, 16 personnel were suspended from duty and criminal complaints were filed against them.
The Governorate of Niğde stated the following regarding the issue: “An investigator was appointed by our governorship to determine whether there was negligence in the care process of our child named M.Ç. and to examine the issue in detail, an inspector was requested from the Guidance and Inspection Presidency of the Ministry of Family and Social Services and the administrative process was initiated. The past security camera records of the center were examined and neglect of duty, ill-treatment, and violation of privacy were detected for 15 children and 1 adult disabled citizen who died and were provided services at the care center. 16 staff working at the care center were suspended from duty and a criminal complaint was filed to the Niğde Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. During the judicial investigation process, judicial proceedings were initiated against a total of 26 care staff who were found to have committed similar acts, 14 of these people were arrested and 12 of them were released to be tried without arrest.’

It is learned that 2 people (Mehmet Horoz, Kaan Horoz) were detained by torture and ill-treatment during operations through an investigation against Partizan and Yeni Demokrat Gençlik (New Democratic Youth) magazines in Izmir on November 20, 2024.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 20, 2024, that journalist Mizgin Sönük and Batman City Council member Hatice Taş, who were kept in Batman M Type Closed Prison, were transferred to Erzincan Women’s Prison against their will.

On 20 November 2024, 2 people (Mehmet Horoz, Kaan Horoz) in Izmir and 1 person (Hasan Benli) in Tokat were detained in operations through an investigation against Partizan and YDG magazines. It is reported that Hasan Benli who was detained in Tokat was brought to Izmir through the investigation.

It is learned from the news coverage of 19 November 2024 that, the first hearing of the case against a child (16, f) who was detained in the Sarıyer district of Istanbul on 12 May 2024, on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ while the President’s motorcade was passing by, was held at Istanbul Juvenile Court No 1 on 12 November 2024 and the court adjourned the trial to 10 December 2024.

The final hearing of the lawsuit filed against journalist Furkan Karabay upon the complaint of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s former lawyer, based on three social media posts he made, was held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 5 on 19 November 2024. The court acquitted the journalist on the charges of ‘insult’ and ‘slander’.
(11/208) TİHEK Decision Regarding Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in a Removal Center…
According to the news coverage of 20 November 2024, the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Turkey (TİHEK) decided on 12 November 2024 on the application filed by a Tunisian asylum seeker named M.M., who was subjected to discriminatory and racist treatment in Istanbul Tuzla Removal Centre (GGM), and was subjected to physical violence and injury by 6 GGM officers on the grounds that he was late for the morning count on 28 April 2024, and ruled that the prohibition of ill-treatment was violated.
The Directorate of Migration Management made the following statement on 19 November 2024: “The need to make a press statement has arisen regarding an incident alleged to have occurred in Istanbul Tuzla Removal Center. The incident, which is the subject of the decision of the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Turkey (TİHEK) dated 12.11.2024 and alleged to have taken place in the removal center, is being investigated in all aspects and with great care by the inspectors of the Civil Administration and Gendarmerie’.
