(06/164) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned that 1 soldier died and 2 soldiers were injured in a bombing attack against a military vehicle in rural areas of Siirt’s Eruh district on June 19, 2018.

It is reported that 1 soldier died and 2 soldiers were injured in an improvised device explosion in Gabar mountain in Şırnak on June 19, 2018.

It is learned that 1 soldier died and 1 soldier was injured in a bombing attack in rural areas of Şırnak’s Güçlükonak district on June 19, 2018.

Hakkari Governorate announced that 6 soldiers were injured in an attack of HPG militants against a military convoy in Çukurca district of Hakkari on June 19, 2018.

It is learned from news coverage of June 19, 2018 that 4 militants died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in rural areas of Lice district of Diyarbakır on June 9, 2018.

(06/165) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from news coverage of June 19, 2018 that Mehdi Boz, a prisoner with cancer, who was transferred to Elazığ High Security Prison No 1 in May 2018, was subjected to physical violence by the wardens, because he rejected strip search. It is reported that Mehdi Boz has bruises on ribcage due to physical violence and the physician did not make a medical report on his condition.

(06/166) Rejection to Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan…

It is learned that the appeal made on June 19, 2018 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was rejected the same day on the grounds of limitations for prisoners in accordance with the law on the execution of sentences and security measures (law no 5275). With the last rejection, it was the 764th time that appeals for visiting Öcalan have been rejected so far. Abdullah Öcalan has met his lawyers on July 27, 2011 for the last time.

(06/167) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling for a while to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 19, 2018 at 13.30 and 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on June 19, 2018, 2 people (Mehmet Dersulu and Mahmut Konuk) and at 18.00 2 people (Acun Karadağ and Gülnaz Bozkurt) were detained.

Thus in total 4 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on June 19, 2018. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

On June 19, 2018, HDP Party Assembly member Abdulselam Demirkıran is detained during a road check in Mersin. It is learned that Abdulselam Demirkıran is taken to Mersin Police Headquarters, however the reason for detention is unknown.

On June 19, 2018, 12 people are detained in house raids in Konak, Bayraklı, Urla, Menemen, Dikili and Torbalı districts of Izmir, for social media posts.

4 people (Haşim Atıcı, Hayrettin Tekin, Adem Sırça and one person) in house raids in Dörtyol and Erzin districts of Hatay are detained for social media posts.

5 people are detained in house raids in Viranşehir district of Urfa, for social media posts.

(06/172) Police Officer on Trial in Mersin for Murder of Feray Şahin…

The case against police officer Fatih Burak Aykut, about murder of university student Feray Şahin on September 19, 2017 in Mersin, on Mersin Heavy Penal Court No 5 is held on June 19, 2018. The court adjourned the trial to July 19, 2018.

(06 /173) The Cases Against Academics Who Are the Signatories of the Petition “We will not be a party to this crime!”…

The separate trials of the cases against 11 academicians (Hülya Kirmanoğlu, Haydar Durak, Fatma Nihan Aksakallı, Yusuf Doğan Çetinkaya, Ahmet Bekmen, İrfan Keşoğlu, İlkay Yılmaz from Istanbul University, Erol Katırcıoğlu from Marmara University, Seçkin Sertdemir, F.A.A., and Gözde Aytemur Nüfusçu from Galatasaray University) for signing the petition “We will not be a party to this crime!” on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 33 for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ are held on June 19, 2018. The court decided to consolidate 11 cases on Heavy Penal Court No 33 with the case of Seçkin Sertdemir and adjourned the trial to October 17, 2018.

The separate trials of the cases against 4 academicians (Asst. Professor B.C.B. form Koç University, Asst. Professor Umut Şah and PhD Efe Arık from Arel University and Asst. Professor Reyda Ergün form Kadir Has University) for the same reason on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 36 are held on June 19, 2018. After defence hearings the court adjourned 3 trials to November 29, 2018 and 1 trial to October 16, 2018.

The separate trials of the cases against Assoc. Professor Özlem Beyarslan from Boğaziçi University and PhD student Nevim Borçin for the same reason on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 14 are held on June 19, 2018. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trials to September 26, and to October 2, 2018.

The trial of the case against Assoc. Professor Ahmet Ersoy from Boğaziçi University for the same reason on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 24 is held on June 19, 2018. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to September 25, 2018.

The case of mental anguish against journalist Çiğdem Toker from Cumhuriyet newspaper, for the news report titled “Tomatoes to Russia from Bayburt”, on Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No 1, started to be held on June 19, 2018. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to December 16, 2018.

(06/175) Co-Mayor on Trial…

The case against Van Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Bekir Kaya and municipality employees Cuma Köylüoğlu, Çetin Çiftçi, Zelal Tanlı, Mehmet Halim Eryiğit, Can Tayan and MEYA-DER executives İdris Şaybak and Neriman Uyar on Van Heavy Penal Court No 2 is held on June 19, 2018. After defence hearings the court decided to continue detention for Bekir Kaya and adjourned the trial to August 7, 2018.

(06/176) Elections on June 24, 2018…

On June 19, 2018, Ali Ümran Daşkaya, presenter of HDP meeting in Patnos district of Ağrı, and Jiyan, singer of Koma Rosida band which performed at the meeting are detained. It is learned that Ali Ümran Daşkaya is detained for using the expression “democracy martyrs” and Jiyan is detained for the word “Kurdistan” in a song. Two people are brought to the court the same day and Jiyan is arrested for ‘making propaganda of an illegal organisation’. Ali Ümran Daşkaya is released on juridical control conditions.

On June 19, 2018, after HDP’s meeting in Doğubayazıt district of Ağrı, 17 people including Faruk Sefkan, presenter of the meeting, are detained. It is reported that Faruk Sefkan is detained for using the expression “democracy martyrs”.

It is learned that on June 19, 2018 HDP campaign office in Karaboyun neighbourhood of Osmaniye is assaulted by anonymous people with guns. It is reported that the assault resulted no casualty yet material damage.

It is learned that banners and posters of MP candidates of HDP on billboards in Palandöken district of Erzurum are taken off and thrown out to the trash bins by anonymous people.

It is learned that on June 19, 2018, HDP members distributing leaflets in Ataşehir district of Istanbul and a group alleged to be AKP members had a fight and that 2 members of AKP are injured and 8 members of HDP are detained.

On June 19, 2018, a racist group attacked HDP’s campaign stand in Haliliye district of Urfa. It is reported that the attackers said “We will not let you make propaganda. We will make it like Suruç” to threaten and attempted to burn down HDP flags. It is learned that HDP stand remained for campaign after the attackers left.

On June 19, 2018, the police intervened people in front of HDP campaign office on Cumhuriyet street in Van. It is learned that nobody was detained.

It is learned that 22 people volunteering for HDP’s electoral campaign who were detained on June 17, 2018 in Van, are released after procedures at the police on June 19, 2018.

It is claimed on news coverage of June 19, 2018 that local headmen of 2 villages in Adıyaman coerced villagers for open vote.

(06/177) Police Prevention to Newspaper Distribution in Denizli…

It is learned that 1 person distributing Evrensel newspaper in Pamukkale district of Denizli is prevented by the police on June 19, 2018. It is reported that the person was stopped and the newspapers were seized, and after criminal record check the police returned the newspapers.

(06/178) Rapper on Trial for Song Lyrics…

The case against rapper Sercan İpekoğlu, known as Ezhel, for his song lyrics on charges of ‘encouraging and enabling drug use’, on Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of First Instance No 44, started to be held on June 19, 2018. The court decided that the elements of crime do not appear and song lyrics should be considered within freedom of art and acquitted Sercan İpekoğlu. Sercan İpekoğlu was detained in Istanbul Police Headquarters where he had been to give official statement and was arrested by the court on May 23, 2018.
