(08/183) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…
It is learned from the news coverage of August 19, 2021 that, 8 prisoners who have been transferred from Urfa T Type Prison to other prisons under coercion on August 11, 2021, were subjected to torture and ill-treatment during the transfer and at the entrance of the prisons. It is also stated in the news reports that prisoners who were subjected to physical violence for rejecting strip search at the entrance, were put in solitary cells.

It is learned that the appeal made on August 19, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was not responded.
(08/185) Detained People in Hakkari…
On August 19, 2021, 6 people including the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) provincial executive Evliya Alkan are detained by gendarmerie in house raids in Yüksekova district of Hakkari.
The names of detained people are: Cevdet Bülbün, Evliya Alkan, Erdem Eraydın, Mehmet Reşat Özdemir, Cengiz Özdemir, Seyhan Özdemir.

The Presidential Decree No 82 published on the Official Gazette on August 20, 2021, amending the former decree on the State Supervisory Council (DDK) has authorized DDK to inspect professional organisations at all levels including employers’ and employees’ organisations, public benefit associations, foundations, cooperatives, unions and all partnerships and affiliates of them.

The Ministry of Health declared that 216 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 19,320 as of August 19, 2021.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 53,889 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 6,157,772 as of August 19, 2021.
