(04/209) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on April 19, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was not responded.

(04/210) Police Intervention to Workers’ Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the press declaration held by Dilbent Türker, a worker who was dismissed from Sinbo factory after being a union member, in front of the factory on April 19, 2021; and detained 5 people including 3 journalists (Dilbent Türker, All Automotive and Metal Workers’ Union (TOMİS) representative Onur Eyidoğan, Kızıl Bayrak reporter Kardelen Yoğungan, Özgür Gelecek reporter Taylan Özgür Öztaş and Mücadele Birliği reporter Serpil Ünal) by using physical violence. 4 people are released after statement procedures on the same day while Mücadele Birliği reporter Serpil Ünal is still under custody on the grounds of another investigation against her.

On April 19, 2021, 5 people (Servet Özekinci, Hamit Dağlı, Recep Çiftçi, Gülsüm Çakır and Diyar Yaman) are detained in house raids in Batman. The reason of detention is unknown.

(04/212) Writer on Trial in Istanbul…

The final trial of the case against writer Erol Mütercimler, for his expressions on graduates of religious vocational high schools in a television programme, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 12 on April 19, 2021.

The court sentenced Erol Mütercimler to 10 months on the charge of ‘degrading a section of the public on grounds of social class, race, religion, sect, gender or regional difference’ and decided to suspend the sentence.

It is learned that an investigation is initiated against lawyer Efkan Bolaç for social media posts and that he made his official statement through the investigation on April 19, 2021.

It is learned that an investigation is initiated against theatre actor Genco Erkal, on the grounds of insulting the President in a social media post; and that Genco Erkal made his official statement through the investigation at Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office Department of Press Offences on April 19, 2021.

(04/215) Penalty Fine to Labour Party Executives in Adana for Hanging Posters…

It is learned that 3 executives of the Labour Party in Adana are imposed a penalty fine of 39,711 Turkish Liras for violating the Law of Misdemeanour by hanging posters of 1 May International Labour Day, on April 19, 2021.

It is learned that http://mezopotamyaajansi31.com/ website of Mezopotamya News Agency is banned to access on the grounds of “protection of national security and public order” by Diyarbakır Penal Court of Peace No 3 on April 19, 2021.

It is learned that http://jinnews19.xyz/ website of Jinnews News Agency is banned to access on the grounds of “protection of national security and public order” by Diyarbakır Penal Court of Peace No 5 on April 19, 2021.

(04/217) Ban of Events in Trabzon and Istanbul…

Trabzon Governorate made a declaration on April 19, 2021 and announced that press declarations, meetings and demonstrations, open-door assemblies, marches, protests, sit-in protests, hunger strikes, opening stands and tents, collecting petitions, concerts, festivals, distributing leaflets, hanging banners and so on are banned for 7 days as of April 19, 2021.

Istanbul Governorate made a declaration on April 19, 2021 and announced that all events and protests with broad participation are banned for until May 17, 2021.

(04/218) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

1 person who was detained in Ankara is arrested by the court on April 19, 2021.

(04/219) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 341 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 2,862 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on April 19, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 55,149.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 36,267 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 4,323,596 as of April 19, 2021.

It is learned that 4 health workers (pharmacy technician Binnaz Aksoy and doctor Vehbi Demirkol in Istanbul, doctor Hakan Sirek in Ankara and professor Kadir Can Özkan in Konya) lost their lives from Covid-19 on April 19, 2021.
