(09/014) Person Died by Police Fire in Mardin…

It is learned that a person named Adem Kara (21) was wounded by the fire opened by the police on the grounds of “disobeying stop warning” in the market place of Midyat district of Mardin on September 1, 2022; and lost his life in Mardin Training and Research Hospital.

(09/015) Operations and Attacks…

The Ministry of National Defence announced that 1 soldier (Okan Meteöz) died as a result of explosion in the Claw-Lock operation of the Turkish Armed Forces into the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on September 1, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 1, 2022 that, the organisation named YPS took responsibility for the death of expert sergeant Turgay Külcü, who was found shot in the head in a park in Antep on August 27, 2022.

(09/016) Journalist Subjected to Torture and Ill-Treatment of the Police in Istanbul…

It is learned that Bianet reporter Tuğçe Yılmaz, was subjected to sexual harassment of an undercover police officer as she was reporting on the demonstration held in Kadıköy district of Istanbul on September 1, 2022 as part of the International Day of Peace. It is stated in the news reports that when Tuğçe Yılmaz reacted by saying “You touched and squeezed my chest, you harassed me”, the police officer in question was removed from the scene by other police officers and the police chief said “You can file a criminal complaint” to Tuğçe Yılmaz.

Tuğçe Yılmaz stated the following to the press: “I was trying to take a picture as my arms were up. The undercover police officer deliberately squeezed my chest. I do not know the name of this person, there were other reporters with me and they have recorded, they have recorded the harassment too. (…) Later, someone like their superior came along. ‘You can make complaints and the problem will be solved. [He is] not normal’ to push me away from the area.

(09/017) Preventions and Interventions Against 1 September International Day of Peace Events…

The police intervened in the groups of the Free Women’s Movement (TJA) activists, Peace Mothers and prisoners’ families gathering for the 1 September International Day of Peace demonstration held in Kadıköy district of Istanbul on September 1, 2022; and detained 100 people by using physical violence and handcuffing them behind their backs. It is learned that the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Kadıköy district co-chair Koray Türkay’s ribs were broken in the intervention. It is reported that the police also prevented the journalists. Detained people were released on the same day.

It is learned that the police intervened in the groups after the demonstration in Van on September 1, 2022 and detained 5 people who were released later on the same day. It is also reported that the police prevented the journalists.

(09/018) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration which were made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on September 1, 2022 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(09/019) Police Prevention to a Protest in Van…

The police prevented the justice watch in front of Van Courthouse on September 1, 2022, regarding ill prisoners. It is learned that the police made general information check on journalists and forced them away from the area.

(09/020) People on Trial in Istanbul…

The indictment of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against 86 people who were detained in the police intervention to the protest regarding the suicide of a university student named Enes Kara, held in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on January 14, 2022; was accepted by Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 25 on September 1, 2022.

It is learned that the concert of the Community Houses Music Ensemble to be held in Burhaniye district of Balıkesir on September 1, 2022 was banned by the district governorate’s office.

(09/022) Ban of Access to Web Contents…

It is learned that 6 news reports about the statements of Sedat Peker, published on https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr, https://bianet.org/bianet, https://abcgazetesi.com, https://www.yenicaggazetesi.com.tr (2 news reports) and https://t24.com.tr websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Istanbul Küçükçekmece Penal Court of Peace No. 1 on September 1, 2022.

It is learned that 6 news reports about the bribery allegations in the tenders of the Turkish State Railways (TCDD), published on https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr (5 news reports) and https://abcgazetesi.com  websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of Peace No. 4 on September 1, 2022.
