It is learned that Abdülkadir Kuday, a seriously ill prisoner in Istanbul Metris R Type Prison, lost his life on 2 October 2024.

It is learned from the news coverage of October 2, 2024, that the final trial of the case against 8 prisoners kept in Urfa T Type Prison No 2, for hitting wardrobes to protest the physical violence by correction officers, was held at Urfa Penal Court of First Instance No 8 on September 6, 2024, and the court sentenced 8 prisoners to 10 months each on the charge of ‘damaging public property’.

On October 2, 2024, the police prevented mine workers from entering Ankara, who were marching to Ankara to protest their dismissals on the grounds of being union members. It is learned that the workers started a sit-in protest after being prevented by the police. It is reported that the police then removed the barricade and allowed the workers to enter Ankara.

On October 2, 2024, the police used tear gas and rubber bullets to intervene against the people protesting electricity inspections in the Orman neighbourhood of the Yüksekova district of Hakkari. It is not known whether anyone was injured or detained during the intervention.

The final trial of the case against Figen Yüksekdağ, former co-chair of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), on the charge of “making propaganda for an illegal organization” in a speech she made on 15 February 2015, was held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 22 on October 1, 2024. The court acquitted Figen Yüksekdağ.

The trial of the case against lawyer Süleyman Şahin continued on 1 October 2024 at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5. The indictment demands a sentence for the lawyer on the charge of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’. The court adjourned the trial to 17 December 2024.

The final trial of the case against two people (Z.B. and S.M.) for the armed attack against journalist Yaman Kaya on 13 November 2023, was held at Bursa Heavy Penal Court No 6 on 2 October 2024. The court acquitted 2 people on the grounds of ‘lack of evidence’.

It is learned from the news coverage of 1 October 2024 that, 2 news reports about Sedat Peker on https://www.diken.com.tr, https://artigercek.com websites, and 1 social media post were banned from access by the Association of Access Providers’ decision dated 30 September 2024, on the grounds of having the same content with the news reports that were sanctioned before.

On 2 October 2024, a total of 12 people were detained in operations conducted in Izmir and Rize through an Izmir-based investigation on the allegations of ‘having a denunciation against them’, ‘being mentioned in correspondence’, ‘using ByLock’, ‘suspicious transactions in BankAsya’.

It is learned from the news coverage of 2 October 2024 that, 6 people who were detained in Istanbul on the grounds of being in the current structuring, were arrested by the criminal peace judgeship.
