(11/019) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is claimed in news coverage of November 1, 2017 that graves of HPG militants who died in clashes in Siirt’s Herekol district, were digged with ladles and their bones were put into body bags and taken away. The cemetery was also bombed by Turkish Armed Forces planes in October 2015.

It is learned 6 soldiers and 2 village guard died on November2, 2017 during clashes between security forces and HPG militants in rural areas of Hakkari’s Şemdinli district.

(11/020) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned that prisoners in Silivri No 9 prison prepared a report on the right violations they have been experiencing and gave it to press on October 31, 2017. According to the report, prisoners Remzi Uçucu, İlyas Kazan, Musa Kurt, Hüseyin Süngü, Şerif Turunç, Fırat Kıl, Ali Önay, Hasan Farsak, Tahsin Sağaltıcı, Rıza Özçolak and Mehmet Manas Doğanay were beaten, bruises and scratches occurred on their bodies. Attorneys Behiç Aşçı, Özgür Yıldız, Süleyman Gökten and Aytaç Ünal who were brought to Silivri Prison after their arrest, were strip searched at the entrance. 12 prisoners were given disciplinary punishments exceeding months of periods.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 1, 2017 that prisoners in Bolu Type F prison and their visitors were forced to reveal their names, last names, identity numbers before using their telephone right and a prisoner named Nusret Amutgan has been restrained from his telephone rights for 5 weeks because he refused this application.

It is learned from news coverage of November 1, 2017 that attorney Engin Gökoğlu from People’s Law Office who was in Tekirdağ No 2 Type T prison, was attacked by wardens in prison thus his arm was broken. It is reported that another prisoner named Murat was injured from his hand during the same attack.

(11/021) Police Intervention Towards ‘‘I Want My Job Back’’ demonstrations in Ankara…

Civil servants discharged from their jobs with Statuary Decree’s planned for press meetings in front of the Human Rights Monument in Ankara Yüksel Street on November 1, 2017. Demonstrations of the group has been going on for several weeks. Two meetings planned at 13.00 and 18.00 respectively were both intervened and prevented by the police forces.

During the intervention towards the meeting at 13.30, 3 people (İlker Işık, Sultan Aydoğdu and Celil Aslan) and during the 18.00 meeting, 8 people including Veli Saçılık and Acun Karadağ (Simge Aksan, İlker Işık, Mustafa Keçeli, Turgut Türksoy, Veli Saçılık and Nazan Bozkurt) were beaten and detained.

11 people in total were detained on November 1, 2017 during Yüksel Street demonstrations. It is learned that police officers also prevented press members from reporting the incident and police intervened the journalists with rubber bullets. It is reported that detainees were released within the same day.

(11/022) Detention and Arrests…

It is learned that Şenay Hayme who was discharged from her job at Karapınar Municipality with a Statuary Decree was detained on November 1, 2017 during a raid to her house in Diyarbakır’s Bağlar district. Hayme was detained for ‘making propaganda of an illegal organization’.

It is learned that 10 people were detained on November 2, 2017 during house raids in Çığlı and Ormanlı villages of Hakkari’ Çukurca district. Learned names of detainees: City assembly member Abdullah Ölmez, HDP executive Didar Kara, Mevan Akdemir and Savaş Ölmez. 10 people whose reason for detentions remain unknown, were taken to Çukurca Police Headquarters.

It is learned that 10 people were detained on November 2, 2017 during house raids in İzmir’s Çeşme, Bayındır and Torbalı districts. It is reported that HDP Bayındır District Co-Chair Veysel Erdem was released following his testimony.

It is learned that 10 people including HDP and DBP co-chairs in Ardahan were detained on November 2, 2017 through an investigation towards KCK. Names of the detainees: HDP District Co-Chair Özcan Yılmaz, DBP District Co-Chair Mikail Çit, HDP Göle District Co-Chair Güney Kaya, City Co-Chair Cengiz Kanmaz, Former City Executive Bahattin Aktürk, Coşkun Yeni, Zeki Yeni, Akif Kanmaz and Yasin Yılmaz.

(11/023) Journalists on Trial Through Investigation on Journalists and Writers Foundation…

It is learned that 45 people were detained on November 1, 2017 during operations in 17 cities through an investigation the now-closed Journalists and Writers Foundation. The Foundation was closed with a Statuary Decree. Journalists Nuh Gönültaş, Mehmet Gündem, Şule Büyükçizmeci, Bekir Özdemir and Behram Kılıç were among the detained 45. It is also reported that 111 people have been issued with warrant of detentions through the investigation.

(11/024) Detentions and Arrests in Connection with the Coup d’État Attempt…

It is learned that informatics specialist Serdar Kuzuloğlu was detained on November 1, 2017 in his house in İstanbul through an İzmir based investigation. It is reported that he was released within the same day after his testimony.

It is learned that 11 people including regular soldiers were detained on November 1, 2017 during operations in 15 cities, through a Tokat based investigation. 10 people also in Tokat, 12 people in Manisa, 10 people during operations in 8 cities through a Giresun based investigation and 12 people in Kırıkkale were detained.

It is reported that 42 people who used to work for closed education centers were issued with warrant of detentions on November 1, 2017 in Ankara through ‘FETÖ/PYD’ investigation and operations take place in 16 cities to capture these people.

(11/025) Trial of Journalist…

The trial of DİHA reporter Nedim Tüfent, for the case opened by Hakkari Heavy Penal Court No 2 for ‘membership of an illegal organization’ continued on November 1, 2017. 4 witnessed who testified in court revealed that they were forced under torture and pressure to testify against the defendant. Witnesses previously testifying also revealed a similar interrogation under torture and pressure.  Following the defenses of witnesses and defendants the court ruled for the continuity of Tüfent’s arrest and adjourned the trial to November 17, 2017.

Nedim Tüfent was detained in Van on May 12, 2016 and later arrested on May 13, 2017.

(11/026) Trials in Adana …

The frist trial of Perihan Sarı, Zahide Buldan and Mahmut Sümer for the case opened by Adana Heavy Penal Court No 13 due to defendants ‘making propaganda of an illegal organization’ through their social media posts, started on November 1, 2017. The 3 defedants were sued with a remand participated the trial via SEGBİS. Following the defenses the court released 3 defendants and adjourned the trial date to March 7, 2018.

(11/027) Trial of Union Member for ‘Insulting the President’…

It is learned from news coverage of November 1, 2017 that Penal Department No 9 of Antep Regional Court of Justice approved the 7 years 7 months 19 days’ jail sentence for Eğitim-Sen Union Sason District President Fırat Erdem. Erdem was sentenced to jail for insulting the President, former Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, former Ankara Mayor Melih Gökçek and AKP İstanbul MP Burhan Kuzu. Fırat Erdem was arrested on December 29, 2015 and released on January 11, 2016.

(11/028) Trials for ‘Insulting Atatürk’…

The final trial of Mustafa Armağan for the case opened by Bakırköy Court of First Instance No 2, regarding an article Armağan wrote in a magazine called “Derin Tarih” where he also acts as chief editor, took place on October 31, 2017. The court sentenced Armağan to 1 year 3 months for insulting Atatürk. The court did not postpone the penalty as defendant didn’t request it.

The final trial of Süleyman Yeşilyurt for the case opened by Bakırköy 35th Penal Court of First Instance regarding the allegation of ‘deliberately insulting Atatürk’s memory’ during a TV show he attended, took place on November 1, 2017. The court sentenced Yeşilyurt to 1 year 2 months and postponed the penalty.

(11/029) Trials in Connection with the Coup d’État Attempt…

The final trial of 6 former police officers who had been discharged with a Decree with the Force of Law including chief police commissioner Erol Keskinkılıç took place on November 1, 2017. The case was opened by Malatya Heavy Penal Court No 1. The court sentenced defendants to jail penalties ranging from 6 years 3 months to 7 years 6 months. The court also ruled for the release of 3 defendants.

The final trial of 7 arrested defendants for the case opened by Bayburt Heavy Penal Court took place on November 1, 2017. The court sentenced 7 defendants to jail sentences ranging from 6 years 10 months 15 days to 9 years 9 months for ‘membership of an illegal organization’.

The trial of 145 defendants including 67 arrested for the case opened by Adana Heavy Penal Court No 11 continued on November 1, 2017. The court decided 40 defendants who were sued without a remand to be arrested due to alleged ByLock usage and adjourned the trial to a further date.

The trial of 17 soldiers including 6 arrested, for the case opened by Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 25 due to the allegation that soldiers overtook İstanbul Municipality Disaster Coordination Center during July 15 coup attempt, continued on November 1, 2017. Following the defenses of defendants and testimonies of witnesses the court ruled for the continuity of defendants and adjourned the trial to a December 7, 2017.

(11/030) Police Intervention Towards Demonstration in Kars…

It is learned that on November 1, 2017 riot police intervened bus drivers protesting additional routes implemented to some destinations, in front of the Kars Municipality building. Police intervened with tear gas and 1 person was detained.

(11/031) Events Banned in City…

Governorate of Ankara declared on November 2, 2017 that hunger strike, sit-in, concert, commemoration event and all other sorts of gatherings will be banned for 3 months in all around Ankara.

(11/032) Special Security Zone in Tunceli…

Governorate of Tunceli declared on November 2, 2017 that 30 zones in central Tunceli, Ovacık, Pülümür, Hozat and Nazmiye districts will be special security zones.
