(03/024) Police Prevention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police prevented the press declaration of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Women’s Assembly, to be held in Bakırköy district of Istanbul as a part of “Justice for Women” campaign, on March 1, 2021.

(03/025) Detained HDP Members and Executives in Mardin…

HDP Party Assembly member Abdullah İdiğ, who was among 5 people detained in Mardin on February 28, 2021 is released by the court on judicial control conditions on March 1, 2021. 4 people were released on judicial control conditions on February 28, 2021.

(03/026) Actors on Trial in Istanbul…

The final trial of the case against actors Metin Akpınar and Müjdat Gezen, on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ in their expressions in Public Arena programme on Halk TV channel on December 21, 2018; is held at Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of First Instance No 8 on March 1, 2021.

The indictment demands Metin Akpınar and Müjdat Gezen to be sentenced to 4 years and 8 months each.

After defence hearings the court acquitted Müjdat Gezen and Metin Akpınar.

(03/027) Ban of Events in Hakkari…

Hakkari Governorate made a declaration on March 1, 2021 and announced that all meetings, open-door assemblies, demonstrations, marches, sit-in protests, human chains, op-ed stands, public sessions, any kind of audio-visual activities with mobile audio-visual vehicles, hunger strikes, opening stands, collecting petitions, flying sky lanterns or balloons, commemorations (except for public institutions), concerts, festivals, theatre plays, screening shows, firing torches, distributing leaflets, hanging banners and so on are banned for 15 days as of March 2, 2021.

Nuri Cankıymaz, retired Brigadier General who was detained in Edirne in an alleged attempt to illegally flee abroad, is arrested by the court on March 1, 2021.

(03/029) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 69 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 645 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on March 1, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 9,891.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 28,638 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 2,711,479 as of March 1, 2021.
