(06/009) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 1, 2021 that, 1 soldier (Hüseyin Mılık) on duty in Yüksekova district of Hakkari, lost his life due to heart attack.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 1, 2021 that, 3 HPG militants died in an air operation of Turkish Armed Forces to Metina area of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on April 18, 2021.

(06/010) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 1, 2021 that, Gülistan Önver, co-chair of MEBYA-DER (Association of People Lost Their Relatives in the Cradle of Civilizations) and members Ceyda Dindar and Azize Öner who have been arrested on May 28, 2021, were subjected to strip search at the entrance of Van T Type Prison.

(06/011) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration to commemorate Ethem Sarısülük, who was killed by a police shot during Gezi Park protests, held at Güvenpark in Çankaya district of Ankara on June 1, 2021 and detained 9 people by using physical violence.

The press declaration to be held in front of Ankara Courthouse, about detained members and executives of Health and Social Service Employees Union (SES) on June 1, 2021 is prevented by the police.

(06/013) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of Pink Life/Pembe Hayat LGBT Solidarity Association to be held in front of Ankara Courthouse, following the trial of the case against persons attacking trans women in Ankara on June 1, 2021. It is learned that nobody was detained but the participants of the press declaration were subjected to physical and verbal violence of the police. It is reported that the police prevented journalists from recording the declaration.

(06/014) Detained Union Members and Executives in Ankara…

8 members and executives of SES union including co-chair Selma Atabey, who were detained through an Ankara based investigation on May 25, 2021, are released by the court on judicial control conditions on June 1, 2021.

Released people are: Selma Atabey, Gönül Erdem, Fikret Çalağan, Bedriye Yorgun, Belkıs Yurtsever, Rona Temelli, Erdal Turan, Ramazan Taş.

(06/015) CHP Chair on Trial…

The final trial of the case against Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, chair of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), for his expressions on Vice President Fuat Oktay, is held at Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No 15 on June 1, 2021. The court sentenced Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu to pay 30,000 Turkish Liras as compensation for ‘attacking personal rights’ of Fuat Oktay.

(06/016) Union Executive on Trial in Izmir…

The trial of the case against Shipbuilding and Maritime Transportation, Warehouse and Storage Workers’ Union (Limter-İş) organising expert Deniz Bakır is held at Izmir Heavy Penal Court No 27 on June 1, 2021.

Deniz Bakır joined the trial via sound and vision system from prison. After defence hearings the court decided to continue detention of Deniz Bakır and adjourned the trial to July 7, 2021. Deniz Bakır was detained on January 14, 2021 and was arrested by the court on January 17, 2021.

(06/017) Lawyer on Trial in Istanbul…

The final trial of the case against lawyer Can Tombul from the Law Office of the Oppressed, is held on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 35 on June 1, 2021. The court sentenced Can Tombul to 7 years and 6 months on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

Can Tombul was detained in Istanbul on July 31, 2018 and was arrested by the court on August 3, 2018. He was released by the court on September 12, 2019.

(06/018) Newspaper Employee on Trial in Adana…

The first trial of the case against İbrahim Karakaş, an employee of Yeni Yaşam newspaper, is held at Adana Heavy Penal Court No 11 on June 1, 2021.

The prosecutor declared legal opinion on the case and demanded sentence for İbrahim Karakaş on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. After defence hearings the court decided to continue detention of İbrahim Karakaş and adjourned the trial to August 13, 2021.

İbrahim Karakaş was arrested on November 6, 2020.

(06/019) İpek Er Case…

The trial of the case against specialised sergeant Musa Orhan, for sexually assaulting a child (Ipek Er) and driving her suicide, is held at Siirt Heavy Penal Court No 1 on June 1, 2021.

The indictment demands jail sentence for Musa Orhan on the charge of ‘sexual assault’.

The court rejected to arrest Musa Orhan, to summon the witnesses for the next trial which is adjourned to September 16, 2021.

Ipek Er committed suicide after she was subjected to sexual assault by specialised sergeant Musa Orhan, and lost her life in hospital on August 18, 2020. Musa Orhan was arrested on the same day, but he was released upon his lawyer’s appeal on August 25, 2020.

(06/020) Postponement of Events in Diyarbakır…

Diyarbakır Governorate made a declaration on June 1, 2021 and announced that “all events with broad participation that would be organized by non-governmental organisations, unions, professional organisations, and cooperatives including general assemblies, except for general assemblies of sports clubs” are postponed to June 15, 2021 according to decisions of the provincial Health and Sanitation Board.

(06/021) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 129 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 602 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on June 1, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 7,112.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 47,656 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 5,256,516 as of June 1, 2021.
