(07/015) Person Injured as a Result of Police Fire in Bursa…

According to news reports on July 2, 2025, a person who was allegedly intoxicated and arguing with police in the Osmangazi district of Bursa was shot in the leg by police with a firearm and injured.

(07/016) Police Intervention in CHP Protests in Ankara and Istanbul…

It was reported that some groups who wanted to attend a rally organized by the Republican People’s Party (CHP) on July 1, 2025, in Saraçhane Square in the Fatih district of Istanbul to mark the 100th day since the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu were not allowed to enter the rally area by the police on the grounds that they were carrying banners.

Following the rally at Saraçhane Square, police intervened with tear gas against individuals dispersing, arresting 41 people, including 8 children, using physical force and handcuffing them. It was reported that one person was injured during the intervention. The 8 children arrested were released the same day after completing their statements at the police station. It was learned that 33 people were still in custody.

On the same grounds, on July 1, 2025, police intervened in a march organized by the CHP Youth Branch in the Çankaya district of Ankara and did not allow the march to take place. It was learned that no one was detained during the intervention.

(07/017) Journalists Detained while Covering News in Istanbul…

While covering a rally organized by the CHP on July 1, 2025, in Saraçhane Square in the Fatih district of Istanbul to mark the 100th day since the arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Cumhuriyet newspaper reporters İrem Karataş, Erdem Öktem, and Engin Deniz İpek were handcuffed and detained by the police. The three journalists were released later the same day after undergoing interrogation at the police station.

(07/018) Person Against Whom an Indictment Has Been Prepared…

According to news reports on July 2, 2025, it was learned that the Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office had prepared two separate indictments against a person named N.K. on the grounds that he had unfurled a banner and thrown a phone during an opening ceremony in the Bağcılar district of Istanbul on April 19, 2025.

The indictment accepted by the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 28 seeks punishment for N.K. on charges of “physical assault against the President.” The first hearing of the case will be held on September 23, 2025.

In the other indictment accepted by the Istanbul Bakırköy 44th Criminal Court of First Instance, N.K. is accused of “insulting the President,” and the first hearing of the case is scheduled for July 16, 2025.
