(12/014) The Case Against TMA Chair and HRFT Executive Board Member…

The indictment against Professor Şebnem Korur Fincancı, the Turkish Medical Association (TMA) chair and the HRFT executive board member, over her statements to a news channel, is accepted by Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 24 on December 2, 2022. The court also decided to continue detention of Professor Fincancı. The first trial of the case will be held on December 23, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 2, 2022 that, 3 militants died in clashes between the Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Metina area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on November 26, 2022.

(12/016) Asylum Seeker Died in Edirne…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 1, 2022 that one person, who was reported to be an asylum seeker, froze to death near Vaysal village of Lalapaşa district of Edirne, and another asylum seeker was taken to hospital.

(12/017) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 1, 2022 that, a prisoner named Serkan Öztürk was being kept in a solitary cell in Kütahya T Type Prison.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 1, 2022 that in Erzurum Dumlu High Security Prison No. 1, the windows in the wards were covered by wire.

(12/018) Hunger Strike in Prison…

It is learned that on December 1, 2022, 3 prisoners (İbrahim Sütcü, Mehmet İşiktaş and Dılhas Kılıçoğlu) joined the indefinite hunger strike that started on November 16, 2022 to demand an end to right violations in Konya Ereğli High Security Prison.

(12/019) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on December 2, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, in order to visit them was not responded.

(12/020) Preventions and Interventions Against 25 November Protests…

It is learned that the administrative surveillance decision for 2 foreign women including 1 student who were sent to Selimpaşa Repatriation Center for deportation, after being detained by the police intervening in the march of 25 November – International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on November 25, 2022, was lifted upon objection on December 2, 2022. It is reported that 2 people will be released and the deportation decision will be appealed at the administrative court.

(12/021) Detained Person in Kocaeli…

It is learned that Şadiye Manap, who was released from Kocaeli Gebze Women’s Prison after 30 years in prison, was detained on the grounds of an investigation, before she was released from prison on December 1, 2022. It is learned that Şadiye Manap was not allowed to meet with her lawyer at Kocaeli Provincial Security Directorate, where she was taken.

(12/022) Former MP on Trial…

The retrial of the case against former MP Mahmut Alınak, on the grounds of insulting the President in an article is held at Kars Penal Court of first Instance No. 1 on December 2, 2022, as the local court’s acquittal was overturned by Erzurum Regional Court. The court sentenced Mahmut Alınak to 1 year and 2 months.

(12/023) Police Officers on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against 3 police officers (L. M., Canan B. and S. E. K.) for performing strip search on Mücella Yapıcı and Cansu Yapıcı, who were detained during Gezi Park protests in 2013, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 11 on December 1, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for defendant police officers at least 3 years up to 12 years on the charge of ‘torture’. The defendant police officers did not join the trial and the court adjourned the trial to April 25, 2022.

(12/024) Person on Trial in Antalya…

The first trial of the case against 40 people who were detained in the police intervention against the 8 March Feminist Night March in Antalya, is held at Antalya Penal Court of First Instance on November 30, 2022. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to April 26, 2023.

(12/025) Actor on Trial…

The final trial of the case against actor Ilyas Salman, on the charge of “degrading the Turkish nation, the State of the Republic of Turkey, the Turkish Grand National Assembly, the Government of Turkey and the judicial organs of the state”, in accordance with Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code, in a social media post is held at Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of First Instance No. 54 on December 1, 2022. The court acquitted İlyas Salman.

(12/026) Police Officers Not Permitted for Investigation in Hatay…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 1, 2022, Iskenderun District Governorate did not give permission for an investigation against 3 police officers (A. K., N. K., and S. D.) who detained former Hatay Bar Association chair Ekrem Dönmez on the grounds that he did not show his identity.

(12/027) Ban of Events in Siirt…

Siirt Governorate’s Office made a declaration on December 1, 2022 and announced that all meetings, marches, press declarations, hunger strikes, sit-in protests, opening stands and tents, distributing leaflets, hanging banners and so on are banned for 15 days as of December 1, 2022.

(12/028) Ban of Access to Web Contents…

It is that a column titled “The sickening story” of Barış Pehlivan published on www.cumhuriyet.com.tr  website is banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights, by Istanbul Bakırköy Penal Court of Peace No. 6 on November 30, 2022.

(12/029) Covid-19 Pandemic…

It is learned that Professor Sibel Pekcan died due to Covid-19 on December 2, 2022 in Denizli.

It is stated in the news reports that the number of health professionals died due to Covid-19 in 2022 is 22.
