(12/017) Person Died by Police Fire in Istanbul…
On November 30, 2021, Çetin Kaya was shot to death by the police on the grounds of ‘disobeying stop warning’ in Kadıköy district of Istanbul. It is learned that a police officer whose name is not announced is arrested on December 1, 2021.
It is also claimed in the news reports that Çetin Kaya was handcuffed behind his back before being shot in the neck. It is also stated in the news reports that, Çetin Kaya’s family demanded to watch the surveillance camera footage but the police responded that those cameras were off.

It is learned that Hasan Köksoy, a broadcaster who broadcasts street interviews on a YouTube channel, and a person who interviewed with in Antalya are detained on December 1, 2021 and they are arrested by the court on the same day.

On December 1, 2021, 16 people are detained in house raids on the grounds of ‘being an illegal organisation’, ‘possession of hazardous material without permission’ and ‘aiding an illegal organisation’.

1 person, Mahşur Bekleyiş, who was detained in Batman on November 26, 2021, is arrested by the court on December 1, 2021. 5 people [Free Women’s Movement (TJA) activist Sedef Özdemir, Batman city council member Vahibe Çelik, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) provincial executive Sedat Yıldız, HDP members Sevcan Öz and Berivan Altun] are released on judicial control conditions.

9 of 45 people who were detained in Mardin on November 27, 2021, are released by the court on judicial control conditions on December 1, 2021. 36 people who were detained through the same investigation were released on November 28 and 30, 2021.
(12/022) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…
The trial of the case against Cumhuriyet newspaper reporter Hazal Ocak, photographer Vedat Arık, executive editor Olcay Büyüktaş Akça and managing editor İpek Özbey, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 26 on December 1, 2021. The case was opened for the news reports about Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s demolishing of construction built in public property rented by Fahrettin Altun, Communications Director Republic of Turkey.
The indictment demands sentence for journalists on the charges of ‘making a person target for terrorist organisations’ and ‘violation of privacy’.
The court adjourned the trial to March 31, 2022.

It is learned that Istanbul Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against 7 executives of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) for a leaflet titled “Sabıka Holding”; and that they made official statements to the prosecutor’s office on December 1, 2021.

It is learned that Presidential Directorate of Communications (CIMER) has responded to the application regarding torture and ill-treatment that a person was subjected to after being faced down to the ground and handcuffed behind the back by the police in Sur district of Diyarbakır on November 18, 2021. It is learned that it was stated that “your application is sent to Department of Legal Affairs for the disciplinary consideration” in the response.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 1, 2021 that, 16 proceedings demanding lift of impunity of 13 parliamentary members are submitted to Grand National Assembly.

(12/027) Covid-19 Pandemic…
The Ministry of Health declared that 196 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 22,556 as of December 1, 2021.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 77,038 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 8,818,144 as of December 1, 2021.
