(12/008) Child Died Due to Fire Opened by Security Forces in Hakkari…

On November 30, 2020, a 16-year-old child Özcan Erbaş, lost his life due to fire opened by security forces near Yeşilova village of Derecik district in Hakkari.

It is reported that Özcan Erbaş was in the area to have a picnic. Hakkari Governorate’s Office stated the following: “On 30.11.2020 at around 14:30, in the neighbouring area of the forbidden zone on the border line in Yeşilova village of Derecik district, since the suspects attempting to cross the border for smuggling did not respond the verbal warning of the border unit, the warning shot fired up into the air injured a citizen, he lost his life although he was taken to Derecik Field Hospital for treatment. The judicial and administrative investigations are still in process.”

The Ministry of National Defence declared that 1 soldier died in a car crash in rural areas of Çukurca district of Hakkari on December 1, 2020.

According to the report issued by We Will Stop Femicide Platform on December 1, 2020, at least 29 women were murdered by men, and 10 women were found dead suspiciously in November 2020 in Turkey.

(12/011) Person Subjected to Physical Violence of the Police in Şırnak…

It is learned that, a person named Meryem Aşkara was subjected to physical violence of the police in a house raid in Şırnak on December 1, 2020. It is learned that Meryem Aşkara was injured at the hand, and has walking difficulties. It is reported that Meryem Aşkara was taken to Cizre Public Hospital where a medical report stating no physical violence was prepared for her.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 1, 2020 that in Manisa Salihli T Type Prison the number of prisoners is over capacity.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 1, 2020 that in Izmir Şakran T Type Prison 29 prisoners are kept in a ward for 8 people.

(12/013) Prevention of Right to Health in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 1, 2020 that, Bakırköy Public Prosecutor’s Office rejected the demand for postponement of sentence of Abdullah Turan, a prisoner with quadriplegia, despite of the Forensic Medicine Institution report which states that he cannot be kept in prison.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 1, 2020 that, Rojbin Çetin, a cancer patient prisoner in Mardin E Type Prison was not referred to hospital and was not given her medication.

(12/014) Detained Co-Mayor, Members and Executives of Political Parties in Şırnak…

On December 1, 2020, 24 people including Cizre co-mayor Berivan Kutlu who was suspended and replaced by a trustee, and members and executives of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) and Democratic Regions Party (DBP) are detained through an investigation against Democratic Society Congress (DTK) in house raids in central, Idil, Cizre, Uludere and Silopi districts of Şırnak. It is learned that 2 people (Suzan Acar and Meryem Aşkara) were released after statement procedures on the same day.

Detained people are: Cizre co-mayor Berivan Kutlu, HDP Şırnak provincial executive Sekvan Kılınç, HDP Idil district co-chair Nafiye Geçgel, HDP Silopi district co-chair Kadir Kunur, HDP Silopi former district co-chair Aycan Azmaz, Ekrem Şavluk, Cemil Gün, Aydın Deniz, Ali Güven, Abdullah Acar, DBP Şırnak former provincial co-chair Ayşe Altay, Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Şırnak former provincial co-chair Yakup Barkın, DBP Balveren town former co-chair Leyla Erdem, Beytüşşebap former co-mayor Faik Dursun, suspended provincial council members Elfesya Nas and Asuman Külter, Yunus Özen, Rıdvan Uysal, provincial council member Yakup Tanış, Peace Mother Şemsê Kara and Fikret Cin, Meryem Aşkara, Suzan Acar.

(12/015) Detained District Council Member and HDP Executives in Diyarbakır…

On December 1, 2020, 3 people (Lice district council member Emine Kaya, HDP Bağlar district executive Suna Güneş and HDP Party Assembly member Resul Sadak) are detained in house raids in Diyarbakır. The reason of detention is unknown.

(12/016) Detained HDP Executives and TJA Activists in Denizli…

On December 1, 2020 5 people [Tevgera Jinên Azad – Free Women’s Movement (TJA) activists Hazal Diler and Cevahir Kayar, HDP Party Assembly member Şerife Yıldırım, HDP Denizli provincial co-chair Hande Özkan and Senay Eker] are detained in house raids in Denizli. 5 poeple are released after statement procedures at the police on the same day.

(12/017) Detained Person in Mersin…

On December 1, 2020, 1 person (Barış Rojvan Pişkin) is detained in Mersin through a Diyarbakır based investigation. The reason of detention is unknown.

(12/018) Detained People in Mersin…

6 people who were detained in Mersin on November 25, 2020 are released after statement procedures at the prosecutor’s office on December 1, 2020. Detained and released people are: Bedran Etiz, Xabat Aslan, Şahin İlhan, Civan Tamur, Fatma Çetinkaya and Agit Işık.

(12/019) Arrested German Citizen in Antalya on the Grounds of ‘Insulting the President’…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 1, 2020 that, Kristian B., a German citizen was detained on the grounds of his expressions that he used in a quarrel he had at Antalya Airport on November 4, 2020. It is learned that Kristian B. was arrested on the charges of ‘insulting the President’, ‘provoking the public to hatred and hostility’, and ‘degrading state organs of the Republic of Turkey’.

It is reported that the indictment against Kristian B. was accepted by Antalya Penal Court of First Instance No 12 and the first trial will be held on December 8, 2020.

(12/020) “Diyarbakır KCK Main Case”…

The retrial of the case known as “Diyarbakır KCK Main Case” against 38 poeple including HDP Mardin MP Pero Dündar and HDP Van MP Tayyip Temel, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 2 on December 1, 2020. The local court’s earlier verdict was reversed by the Court of Cassation.

The court rejected to end the proceedings against Pero Dündar and Tayyip Temel who have parliamentary impunity, and rejected to lift the ban on leaving the country for Tayyip Temel. The court issued a summon for absent defendants and adjourned the trial to April 13, 2021.

(12/021) “KCK Press Case”…

The trial of the case against 46 journalists, known as “KCK Press Case” is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 3 on December 1, 2020. The court rejected to separate the case against Çağdaş Ulus and adjourned the trial to March 4, 2021.

(12/022) Journalist on Trial in Ankara…

The trial of the case against journalist Hayri Demir on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 15 on December 1, 2020. The court adjourned the trial to March 25, 2021.

(12/023) Police Officer on Trial in Adana…

The final trial of the case against police officer M. U. for death of Serkan Ünal is held at Adana Heavy Penal Court No 2 on December 1, 2020.

Serkan Ünal, who was alleged to run away from Adana Public Hospital where he was taken for obligatory medical examination after he was arrested, was shot by police officer M. U. behind his back. The local court has acquitted police officer M. U. however the Court of Cassation reversed the verdict.

The court sentenced police officer M. U. to 1 year and 8 months on the charge of ‘reckless killing’ and postponed the sentence.

(12/024) Non-Prosecution for Correction Officer in Hatay…

On January 13, 2020, Cebrail Acar who was kept in Iskenderun T Type Prison, was subjected to physical violence of the correction officers saying “It is state here, stand up”, for he rejected to stand up during roll-calls. Hatay Public Prosecutor’s Office made a non-prosecution decision regarding the criminal complaint against correction officer E. Y., on December 1, 2020.

It is learned that the news reports on resignation of Berat Albayrak from his post as the Minister of Finance and Treasury, which were published on https://tele1.com.tr/, https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr/, https://odatv4.com/, https://www.yenicaggazetesi.com.tr/, https://eksisozluk.com/ websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights, by Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of Peace No 1 on December 1, 2020.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 1, 2020 that in November 2020, 137 websites are banned to access by Information Technologies and Communications Authority upon demand of Department of Cyber Crime of Adana Gendarmerie Command.

(12/026) Ban of Events in Hakkari…

Hakkari Governorate made a declaration on December 1, 2020 and announced that, all events such as demonstrations and meetings; press declarations, sit-in protests, human chain protests, hunger strikes, opening stands, collecting petitions, distributing leaflets, concerts, festivals, theatre plays, and so on are banned for 15 days as of December 2, 2020.

(12/027) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On December 1, 2020, 63 people including military members on active duty are detained in operations covering 39 cities through an Izmir based investigation; 19 poeple including military members on active duty are detained in operations covering 13 cities through an Urfa based investigation; and 1 person is detained on a warrant in Antalya.

(12/028) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 190 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 6,101 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on December 1, 2020. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 30,110.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 13,936 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 506,966 as of December 1, 2020.

It is learned that 3 health workers (Atilla Yılmaz in Kocaeli, pharmacy technician Belgin Kürşat Toraman in Antalya, emergency service personnel Ömer Söker in Hatay) died from Covid-19 on November 30, 2020.
