On April 1, 2021, 1 person (Cemil Kaçar) lost his life due to mine explosion while grazing in the rural areas of Hesena village of Silopi district in Şırnak.

It is learned that a 12-year-old child (N. Ş. A.) crossing the street, is injured due to being hit by an armoured vehicle in Yüksekova district of Hakkari on April 1, 2021.
(04/019) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…
It is learned from the news coverage of April 1, 2021 that, prisoners in Diyarbakır F Type Prison were subjected to physical violence of the correction officers for speaking Kurdish with each other.
It is learned from the news coverage of April 1, 2021 that, prisoners in Elazığ High Security Prison No 2 were subjected to physical violence of the correction officers during ward searches.
(04/020) Police Intervention to a Protest in Urfa…
The police intervened the justice watch of Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit Şenyaşar in front of Urfa Courthouse on its 24th day on April 1, 2021 and committed physical violence against 2 people. It is learned that Ferit Şenyaşar lost consciousness due to violence and was hospitalized. It is learned that Ferit Şenyaşar was forced away from the courthouse building and he stated the following: “I did not want to leave there, they dragged me away for about ten meters at the yard gate of the courthouse. My foot got stuck in two cars, the security chief of the courthouse kicked me several times, I was conscious at the beginning and told him not to kick me but then I lost my consciousness, and I do not remember the rest.”
On June 14, 2018, Justice and Development Party Urfa MP candidate İbrahim Halil Yıldız and his personal guards had a quarrel with shopkeepers in Suruç district of Urfa which resulted in death of Emine Şenyaşar’s husband Hacı Esvet Şenyaşar and her sons Adil and Celal Şenyaşar.
(04/021) Police Intervention to Protest Against New Rector Appointed to Boğaziçi University…
The police intervened the press declaration in Kadıköy district of Istanbul on April 1, 2021, to protest the new rector appointment to Boğaziçi University; and detained at least 35 people by using physical violence. It is learned that detained people were handcuffed behind their backs, subjected to physical violence and dragged during and under detention which injured at least 2 of them. Detained people are released after statement procedures on the same day.

The police prevented the press declaration of Adana Students’ Solidarity, to demand release of arrested students and autonomous universities; in Adana on April 1, 2021. It is learned that the police also seized the banner of the group heading for another place to hold declaration and exercised criminal record check on the participators.

Lawyer Zafer Çellik who was detained on March 31, 2021 in a house raid in Tunceli is arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on April 1, 2021.

Lawyer Berrak Çağlar and Ali Sinan Çağlar who were detained on March 31, 2021 in Kocaeli, are released by the court on judicial control conditions on April 1, 2021.
(04/025) Lawyer on Trial in Istanbul…
The trial of the case against lawyer Oya Aslan is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 37 on April 1, 2021.
The court decided to continue detention of Oya Aslan and adjourned the trial to June 29, 2021.
Oya Aslan was detained in Istanbul on December 20, 2019 and was arrested by the court on December 27, 2019.
(04/026) Co-Mayors on Trial in Mardin…
The trial of the case against Nilüfer Elik Yılmaz, HDP co-mayor of Kızıltepe district; and Gülistan Öncü, HDP co-mayor of Savur district, is held at Mardin Heavy Penal Court No 2 on April 1, 2021.
Nilüfer Elik Yılmaz and Gülistan Öncü joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system. After defence hearings the court decided to release Nilüfer Elik Yılmaz and Gülistan Öncü and adjourned the trial to June 22, 2021.
The Ministry of Interior appointed sub-governors as trustees to Kızıltepe (on November 4, 2019) and to Savur (November 16, 2019). Gülistan Öncü was detained on November 15, 2019 and was arrested on November 26, 2019. Nilüfer Elik Yılmaz was detained on December 12, 2019 and was arrested by the court on December 16, 2019.

Kadıköy Sub-Governorate made a declaration on March 31, 2021 and banned meetings and demonstrations in open areas in Kadıköy district for an indefinite period of time, on the grounds of “possibility of negative impact on protection of the society and prevention of the spread of Covid-19”.

On April 1, 2021, 10 people are detained in Edirne in an alleged attempt to illegally flee abroad.
(04/029) Covid-19 Pandemic…
The Ministry of Health declared that 176 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 1,424 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on April 1, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 40.806.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 31,713 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 3,357,988 as of April 1, 2021.
It is learned that 2 health workers (pharmacists Ahmet Hamdi Arslanoğlu in Giresun and Neşat Uzun in Ankara) lost their lives due to Covid-19 on April 1, 2021.
