(08/007) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Detention in Ankara…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 3, 2025 that, 1 person (Musa Nargüner) who was subjected to torture and ill-treatment at Ankara Security Directorate after being detained in Ankara, broke his ribs due to the torture and ill-treatment.

(08/008) Detained People After a Protest in Istanbul…

On August 3, 2025, it is learned that 2 people were detained in Kadıköy district of Istanbul, for the slogans they chanted during the protest against Israeli attacks to Gaza. These 2 people are released by the criminal court of peace on August 4, 2025 with a judicial control measure of ban on leaving the country.

(08/009) Detained People in Istanbul…

5 of 25 people including municipality executives who were detained through an investigation against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality on July 29, 2025 are arrested by the criminal court of peace on August 1, 2025. The names of the arrested people could not be learned. 20 people were released with judicial control measures.

(08/010) Arrested Person in Antalya…

A person named G.T. who was detained through an investigation against Antalya Metropolitan Municipality is arrested by the criminal court of peace on August 2, 2025 on the charge of ‘concealing and changing criminal evidence’.

(08/011) Indictment Against Former Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and Other People in Izmir…

The indictment prepared by Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against 65 people, 11 of whom are arrested, including former Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer and former Republican People’s Party (CHP) Izmir provincial chair Şenol Aslanoğlu, was accepted by Izmir Heavy Penal Court No 23.

The indictment demands 65 people to be sentenced for ‘qualified fraud’.

The first hearing of the case will be held on September 19, 2025.

11 people including Tunç Soyer and Şenol Aslanoğlu were arrested on July 4, 2025.

(08/012) Investigation Against Journalist in Şırnak…

It is learned from news coverage of August 1, 2025 that Şırnak Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation against journalist Dilgeş Ruvanas, on the grounds of ‘provoking hatred and hostility among people’ through her news reports on tree cutting in Şırnak, and that she gave her official statement at Cizre Gendarmerie District Command.

(08/013) Indictment aginst People in Ankara…

On August 4, 2025, Ankara 50th Criminal Court of First Instance accepted the indictment prepared by Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against 17 people for participating in the Pride March held on the Middle East Technical University campus in 2022. The indictment demands 17 people to be sentenced for violating Law No. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations.

The first hearing of the case will be held on December 16, 2025.

On August 5, 2025 it is learned from the news coverage of August 5, 2025 that the municipality building in Suruç district of Urfa was attacked with stones. It is reported that a person named B. A. is detained in connection with the attack which caused material damage in the municipality building.

(08/015) Attack to a Mosque in Istanbul…

On August 5, 2025 it is learned from news coverage of August 5, 2025 that Hagia Sophia Mosque in Fatih district of Istanbul was attempted to be arson by an unidentified person.

(08/016) University Student Expelled from Dormitory on the Grounds of Protest…

On July 4, 2025, it is learned from news coverage of July 4, 2025 that a student of Edirne Trakya University was expelled from his dormitory for participating in the protests against the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor.

(08/017) Newspapers Suspended from Publishing Official Advertisements…

On August 3, 2025, it is learned from news coverage of August 3, 2025 that 8 local newspapers in Mersin, Akdeniz, Çukurova, Güney, Haberci, Hakimiyet, İmece, Mersin and Yeni Güney, were suspended indefinitely by the Press Advertisement Agency (BİK) for not fulfilling their obligations.

(08/018) Special Security Zone in Şırnak…

Şırnak Governorate made a declaration on August 3, 2025 and announced that Dilekyolu, Tuzluca, Ayrancı, Çığlıca and İncebel Mountains areas in Beytüşşebap district of Şırnak province were declared as temporary special security zones for 9 days between August 4, June 2025 and August 12, 2025.
