(09/007) People Subjected to Physical Violence of Village Guards in Ağrı…
It is learned from the news coverage of September 2, 2023 that 3 children in Akbaraza village of Diyadin district of Ağrı were subjected to physical violence by a village guard named S. K. It is reported that both arms of a child were broken and the other two children were injured in various parts of their bodies.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 3, 2023 that, a person named Aybars Kıvrak was subjected to physical violence by 4 police officers in plain clothes who stopped his vehicle in Ankara. It is reported that Aybars Kıvrak, who was detained later on, was arrested on the charge of ‘resistance to the police’.

It is learned that the appeal made on September 1, 2023 to the chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, in order to visit them was not responded.
(09/010) Police Intervention to Press Declaration in Istanbul…
The police intervened in the press declaration of Saturday Mothers/People held at the Galatasaray Square of Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on September 2, 2023, and detained 32 people including the Human Rights Association (HRA) Istanbul branch chair Gülseren Yoleri. It is learned that the police prevented journalists from recording the intervention. Detained people were released after statement procedures on the same day. Detained people were: Ali Ocak, Ali Şahin, Ali Tosun, Aslı Tokanay, Begali Kurnaz, Besna Tosun, Davut Arslan, Deniz Aytaç, Doğan Özkan, Doğu Kaan Uçan, Esra Yılmaz, Evrim Şerifoğlu, Fatma Akaltun, Funda Şahin, Gülseren Yoleri, Hanife Yıldız, Hasan Karakoç, Hatice Onaran, Hüseyin Aygül, İsmail Yücel, Leman Yurtsever, Maside Ocak, Mete Demircigil, Mikail Kırbayır, Nazım Dikbaş, Ömer Kavran, Perihan Deniz, Roza Kahya, Rüya Kurtuluş, Salim Derelioğlu, Semiha Arı, Taylan Bekin.

The police prevented the press declaration called by the HRA Van branch to be held in Van on September 2, 2023 to support Saturday Mothers/People, on the grounds of the governorate’s ban. The press declaration at the entrance of the HRA branch office as the group could not leave the building due to police prevention.

The police intervened in the people gathering to participate in the festival for the anniversary of the establishment of the 1 May neighbourhood in Ataşehir district of Istanbul, on the grounds of the banners with the photo of İbrahim Kaypakkaya, and detained at least 27 people by using physical violence and handcuffing them behind their backs. Detained people were released on the same day.

The trial of the case against Mezopotamya News Agency reporter Ergin Çağlar who was detained while he was reporting on the protest against isolation of the PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, held in Bursa on June 12, 2022, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 58 on September 4, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for Ergin Çağlar on the charge of ‘violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations’. The court decided lack of jurisdiction and ruled to send the case to Bursa Penal Court of First Instance No. 29.
(09/015) Police Officer on Trial in Diyarbakır…
The final trial of the case against police officer H. A., for causing death of Cihan Can, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 11 on September 4, 2023. The court sentenced the police officer to 3 years on the charge of ‘reckless killing’ and then converted it to a penalty fine of 21,200 Turkish Liras.
Cihan Can lost his life after being hit by a police vehicle driven by police officer H. A. on Turgut Özal avenue in Diyarbakır on December 27, 2019.

Van Governorate’s Office made a declaration on September 1, 2023 and banned press declarations, sit-in protests, conducting surveys, opening stands and tents, collecting petitions, distributing leaflets, hanging banners, and so on for 2 days as of September 2, 2023.

The Ministry of National Defence announced on September 2, 2023 that, 13 people were detained in alleged attempt to illegally flee to Greece.
On September 2, 2023, 8 people were detained in Istanbul.
