It is learned from the news coverage of 4 November 2024 that, 1 militant died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in rural areas of Şırnak on 30-31 July 2024.

It is learned from the news coverage of 2 November 2024 that, 1 person named G.Ş. (m) was found dead in Tekirdağ Prison. It is stated in the news reports that prison authorities reported the cause of death as suicide.

It is learned from the news coverage of 2 November 2024 that, the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, who is kept in İmralı Prison, made an application to Bursa Execution Judgeship on 16 October 2024 for family visits. It is learned that Abdullah Öcalan was subjected to disciplinary proceedings by the prison administration and was penalized with deprivation of visit for 3 months. It is also stated in the news reports that lawyers were not informed about the reason for the disciplinary proceedings.

It is learned from the news coverage of 1 November 2024 that, 1 person (Ali Çeven) who was detained in a house raid in Istanbul on the same date, on the grounds of his statements on Kurdish issue in a street interview, was subjected to physical violence by the police and was wounded.

It is learned from the news coverage of 2 November 2024 that, gendarmerie personnel inflicted verbal and physical violence on the players of the opposing team, and the spectators reacting to the situation were subjected to physical violence by gendarmerie as a result of a quarrel between the personnel of Hakkari Derecik District Gendarmerie Directorate and Derecik Sub-Governorate during a football match at Derecik Stadium. It is also claimed in the news reports that a superior officer ordered ‘attack’, and it is reported that gendarmerie personnel providing security at the stadium, who were spectators, used physical violence against the players. It is learned that those who were subjected to violence received medical reports documenting the physical violence.

It is learned from the news coverage of 1 November 2024 that, 2 people attacked the stand set up by Republican People’s Party (CHP) Antep Youth Branches in Gaziantep University square with knives, Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) was written on the flags, and some materials in the stand were damaged in the attack.

On November 2, 2024, the police intervened against the press statement in front of the Marmara Park Shopping Mall in Istanbul, against the arrest of Ahmet Özer, CHP elected mayor of Esenyurt district, and appointment of a trustee in his place, with tear gas. It is reported that no one was detained in the intervention.

On 3 November 2024 in Istanbul, HalkTV Managing Editor Dinçer Gökçe, Gazete Pencere Managing Editor Nilay Can and Lawyer İrem Çiçek were detained on the allegations of ‘insulting a public official’, ‘slander’, ‘denigrating the judicial organs of the state’, ‘publicly disseminating misleading information’, ‘insulting a public official’, ‘slander’, ‘insulting the judicial organs of the state’, ‘publicly disseminating misleading information’ through an investigation initiated ex officio by Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, on the grounds of reporting on the allegations that the prosecutor of the investigation known as ‘newborn baby gang’ was dismissed. 2 journalists were released by the criminal peace judgeship on 4 November 2024 on judicial control conditions, while lawyer İrem Çiçek was released on house confinement on the same date.

4 of the 16 people (Ferişin Kaya, Nurşin Orakçı, Abdülsamed Turan, and İsmail Sever) who were detained in house raids in Istanbul on 30 October 2024, including Koma Hevra soloist Zeynep Doğan and Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) executives, were arrested by the criminal peace judgeship on the charge of “being a member of an illegal organization” on 2 November 2024. 12 people were released by the criminal peace judgeship on judicial control conditions on the same date. It is also claimed in the news reports that 12 people were referred to the criminal peace judgeship by the prosecutor’s office without taking their statements.

On 1 November 2024, Ali Çeven, who was detained in a house raid in Istanbul on the grounds of his statements on the Kurdish issue in a street interview, was arrested by the Criminal Peace Judgeship on the same date on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’.

8 of the 24 people who were detained during the military operation launched in the rural areas of Pervari in Şırnak on 28 October 2024, were released after statement procedures at the gendarmerie on 31 October 2024. 2 of the remaining 16 people (İlhan Tekinalp and Recep Kipkaç) who were referred to the criminal peace judgeship on 1 November 2024, were arrested on the charge of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’. 8 people (Geliye Yılmaz, Mehmet Salih Taşçı, Reber Taşçı, Hacı Taşçı, Davut Taşçı, Delil Taşçı, Metin Taşçı, Hamit Eşlik) were arrested on the charge of ‘aiding an illegal organization’. 6 people (Ayşe Taşçı, Resul Bulduk, Ömer Kaçar, Ömer Kaymaz, Abdulhamid Kaymaz, Hatun Kaymaz) were released.

5 people (Abdülkerim Üzen, Welat Karagöz, Renas Duymak, Yusuf Kaplan, and 1 unidentified person) who were detained on 30 October 2024 in the Cizre district of Şırnak and Antep were released after statement procedures at the police on 1 November 2024. The other 4 people were arrested by the criminal peace judgeship on the same date. Grounds for detention and arrest could not be learned.

It is learned from the news coverage of 1 November 2024 that, 2 people (N.K., B.Y.) were detained by the police on the grounds of not standing up during the national anthem before the match between Amedspor and Pendikspor at Iğdır City Stadium on 27 October 2024.
(11/024) Gendarmerie Raids on Journalists’ Apartment…
It is claimed in the news coverage of 1 November 2024 that, journalists Derya Ren and Kamber Yıldız’s house in Adıyaman, where they were staying, was raided twice in a row by different gendarmerie teams, that journalists were asked to undergo GBT checks, that they were asked questions about where they went and news content, and that a gendarme told journalists to ‘keep it between us’ about the raid.

The retrial of the case against journalist Perihan Kaya, for her professional activities and social media posts, was held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 10 on November 1, 2024. The indictment demands a sentence for the journalist on the charges of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’. The court adjourned the trial to 21 March 2025.
In the case against journalist Perihan Kaya at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 10, the court sentenced her to 1 year and 3 months on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’ and acquitted her on the charge of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’. The verdict was overturned by the Diyarbakır Regional Court of Appeals on the grounds that ‘the sentence was incomplete’.

The final trial of the case against 16 people who were detained in the police intervention against a watch demonstration of the Prisoners Solidarity Initiative demanding ‘freedom for sick prisoners’ in Istanbul on 3 February 2022, was held at Istanbul Bakırköy Penal Court of First Instance No 51 on 1 November 2024. The court acquitted 16 people on the charge of ‘violating Law No 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations’.

It is learned that the President of the Republic of Turkey initiated a lawsuit against CHP chair Özgür Özel and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, on the grounds of their speeches at the rally held at Esenyurt Cumhuriyet Square on 31 October 2024, against the arrest of Ahmet Özer, CHP elected mayor of Esenyurt district of Istanbul, and appointment of a trustee in his place, demanding 1 million Turkish Liras of moral damages.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 2, 2024, that, the sentence of 1 year 11 months, and 12 days given to artist Ferhat Tunç on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’ in the case at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 36, for his social media posts, was approved by the Court of Cassation.

It is learned from the news coverage of 2 November 2024 that, an investigation was initiated by the Elazığ Public Prosecutor’s Office against journalist Evren Demirdaş, on the grounds of ‘publicly disseminating misleading information’, upon a criminal complaint made by a business person for his news reports on a bid, and that the journalist gave his official statement.

Ahmet Türk, the DEM Party elected co-mayor of Mardin Metropolitan Municipality, was dismissed by the Ministry of Interior on 4 November 2024 and Mardin Governor Tuncay Akkoyun was appointed as trustee.
Gülistan Sönük, the DEM Party elected co-mayor of Batman Municipality, was dismissed by the Ministry of Interior on the same date and Batman Governor Ekrem Canalp was appointed as a trustee.
Mehmet Karayılan, the DEM Party elected co-mayor of Halfeti district of Urfa, was dismissed by the Ministry of Interior on the same date and Halfeti District Governor Hakan Başoğlu was appointed as trustee.
The Ministry of Interior made a statement on 4 November 2024 and justified the appointment of trustees by citing prison sentences and ongoing investigations against the co-chairs.

The Governorate of Mardin announced on 4 November 2024 that all open-door actions/activities (press statements, meetings, marches, hunger strikes, sit-in protests, rallies, opening stands, setting up tents, distributing leaflets, hanging banners and posters, etc.) as well as the entry and exit of people who are considered to participate in these actions and activities are banned for 10 days between 4 November 2024 and 13 November 2024.
The Governorate of Urfa announced on 4 November 2024 that all outdoor activities (gatherings, marches, press statements, hunger strikes, sit-in protests, rallies, opening stands, setting up tents, distributing leaflets, hanging banners and posters, etc.) and the entry and exit of people who may participate in these activities are banned for 10 days between 4 November 2024 and 13 November 2024.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 4, 2024, that, the theatre play ‘Everyone looks like my husband’ to be performed by Albiero.Company in solidarity with earthquake victims in Hatay at a college on November 1, 2024, was cancelled by Defne District Governorate on the grounds of missing documents. It is also reported in the news that Albiero.Company theatre team submitted all the documents requested by the district governorship.

It is learned from the news coverage of 2 November 2024 that, the application BIGOLIVE, which allows users to broadcast live broadcasts, and the domain name bigo.tv were banned from access by Ankara Criminal Peace Judgeship No 4 on 14 October 2024, and the application was banned from downloads from AppStore and Google Play.
(11/035) Special Security Zone in Van…
The Governorate of Van announced on 1 November 2024 that Karsız Tepe, Kanlı Geçit Sırtı, Beyazpur Tepe, Sivri Tepe, Avcılar Tepe, Sivritaş Tepe, Tozlu Sırtı, Art Tepe, Uçdere, Bedi Sırtı, Kızılkaya Tepe areas in Başkale District were declared as temporary special security zones for 15 days between 2 November 2024 and 16 November 2024 and all access to these areas was banned.
