(04/026) Person Died at Dormitory in Ankara…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 2, 2022, that a student named Hasan Can Çoban, had a heart attack at Hacettepe University Sıhhiye Campus Dormitory and, lost his life. It is stated in the news reports that the intern doctors who intervened in Hasan Can Çoban wanted to report the emergency aid request with the blue code, but the application did not work and the ambulance arrived late due to the iftar tents set up in the campus.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 3, 2022 that, a person named Tugay Gürtekin got wounded due to explosion of the unknown substance that is in the nylon bag which he founded in the sea in Fethiye district of Muğla.

(04/028) Person Wounded by Police Fire in Urfa…

It is learned that 1 person (Şükrü Ü.) got wounded with the fire opened by the police on the grounds of ‘disobeying stop warning’ in Haliliye district of Urfa on April 3, 2022.

(04/029) Torture and Ill-Treatment Under Custody in Batman…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 2, 2022 that, 15 people who were detained in house raids in Timok (Gümüşörgü) village of Kozluk district of Batman on March 31, 2022, were subjected to torture and ill-treatment and were forced to be police informants under custody. Batman Bar Association made a declaration and stated the following: “We have learned that the suspects detained through a gendarmerie investigation in Gümüşörgü village of Kozluk district on March 31, 2022 were subjected to torture and ill-treatment. The suspect’s lawyer was not informed on the grounds of restriction regarding the file in the law enforcement, and our request to meet with the investigation prosecutor was rejected. The allegations are strengthened as the lawyer and our members were not allowed to any meeting.”

It is learned that the police intervening the quarrel that took place during the basketball game between Hakkari Security Directorate and Provincial National Education Directorate personnel on April 2, 2022, used physical violence against the audience.

(04/031) Person Subjected to Physical Violence of Municipality Police in Istanbul…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 3, 2022 that a person was subjected to physical violence of the municipality police on the grounds of begging, in Aksaray district of Istanbul. Aksaray Municipality announced that an administrative investigation is launched.

(04/032) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 1, 2022 that, in Istanbul Bakırköy Women’s Closed Prison, personal belongings of the prisoners were seized by the correction officers during ward searches. It is also reported that Sibel Gölbaşı, a prisoner, was taken from her ward on March 1, 2022, on the grounds that she was to make an official statement through the sound and vison system and was forced to be meet intelligence officers who also threatened her.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 2, 2022 that, political prisoners in Urfa T Type Prison were not allowed to use their right to video call.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 3, 2022 that, the food given to prisoners in Kocaeli Gebze Women’s Closed Prison is inadequate and of poor quality, and the prisoners are compelled to pay high electricity bills.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 3, 2022 that, prisoners in Diyarbakır Closed Prison No 1 were subjected to physical violence of the correction officers; those who react against closure of windows by cardboards were put in solitary cells, the food given to prisoners is inadequate and of poor quality and the prices are high at the prison commissary.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 3, 2022 that, 70-year-old ill prisoner Mehmet Emin Çam who was transferred from Batman M Type Prison to Batman Beşiri T Type Closed Prison on April 1, 2022 was kept in solitary cell for 17 days, and was forced to stand up during roll-calls.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 3, 2022 that, ill prisoner Özgür Sinan Menteş who has 68 percent disability in Istanbul Maltepe L Type Prison No 2 was not receiving regular treatment.

It is learned that the appeal made on April 1, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, in order to visit them was not responded.

The police intervened the press declarations of Şişli Municipality workers in front of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) on March 31 and April 1, 2022 and forced people away from the building by using physical violence.

The police intervened the press declaration of dismissed workers of EnerjiSa company, which was to be held in front of Başkent Electricity Corporation in Ankara on April 1, 2022; and detained 8 people (Süleyman Keskin, Mehmet Oğuz, Mehmet Ali İçindere, Osman Çokaman, Erdal Şener, Bekir Bayatlı, Özgür Bozkurt, Zarife Çalaman). Detained people are released after statement procedures on the same day.

The police intervened the press declaration in front of the Forensic Medicine Institution in Yenibosna district of Istanbul on April 1, 2022; demanding release of ill prisoner Ali Osman Köse and supporting demands of Sibel Balaç and Gökhan Yıldırım who are on death fast. 1 person (Feridun Osmanağaoğlu) is detained by the police.

It is learned that 15 people were detained in house raids in Timok (Gümüşörgü) village of Kozluk district of Batman on March 31, 2022. It is reported that 10 people were released after statement procedures while 5 people are still under custody.

(04/039) Detained People in Diyarbakır…

It is learned that 3 people (Kamuran Ceylan, Hüseyin Aslan and Süleyman Dolan) are detained in house raids in Gulaklıdere (Heyderika) village of Hazro district of Diyarbakır on April 2, 2022. The reason of detention is unknown.

(04/040) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The final trial of the case against journalist Çiğdem Toker, upon the complaint of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s son-in-law, Selçuk Bayraktar over an article she wrote is held at the Küçükçekmece Civil Court of First Instance No 10 on April 1, 2022. The court ordered Çiğdem Toker to pay 30,000 Turkish Liras for non-pecuniary damage.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 1, 2022 that, Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office prepared an indictment against the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) former co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation on social media’.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 3, 2022 that, a case was filed against musician Erdal Bayrakoğlu on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation on social media’. It is reported that the first trial will be held on June 8, 2022.

(04/043) The Case Against People for Participating in Protest in Tunceli…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 1, 2022, Tunceli Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against 10 people who participated in the press declaration of “We can’t live on” made by the Dersim Labour and Democracy Forces on December 17, 2021. It is learned that the investigation accuses 10 people on the charges of ‘resisting to prevent public duty’ and ‘participating in unlawful meetings and demonstrations’. The names of the 10 people who were prosecuted are: The Labour Party provincial chair Ergin Tekin, HDP’s former provincial co-chairs Nurşat Yeşil and İbrahim Kasun, DİSK Branch chair Şükran Yılmaz, Gazete Patika reporter Hıdır Yıldız and Munzur Environment Association member Özkan Arslan.

(04/044) Extrajudicial Execution Investigation in Diyarbakır…

7 people were killed and 2 people were injured as soldiers opened fire on the people who attended the funeral held on November 24, 1991 in Kulp District of Diyarbakır, for PKK militants who died in the conflict that broke out in the rural parts of Solhan district of Bingöl.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 1, 2022 that the investigation carried out by Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against 33 military officials was closed on March 3, 2022, on the grounds of “timeout”.

In the previous investigation, it was decided that there was no need for prosecution on 2 November 2017 on the grounds that the soldiers “acted within the scope of legitimate defence”. Following the appeal made by the families of the deceased to the Constitutional Court, on January 9, 2020, the court has ruled that the right to life regulated in Article 17 of the Constitution was violated and Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation again.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 3, 2022, that Şırnak Medical Chamber chair doctor Serdar Küni’s contract for primary care physician was suspended for 2 months by Şırnak Governorate’s Office on the grounds of a lawsuit filed against him in 2015.

(04/047) Ban of Events in Mardin and Hakkari…

Mardin Governorate made a declaration on April 1, 2022 and announced that all meetings and demonstrations are banned as part of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic and on the grounds that “there is an expectation that mass demonstrations will be held with the support of marginal groups involved in the ongoing operations and hunger strike/death fast” for 15 days as of April 2, 2022. Press declarations, sit-in protests, human chains, op-ed stands, public sessions, any kind of audio-visual activities with mobile audio-visual vehicles, hunger strikes, opening stands, collecting petitions, flying sky lanterns or balloons, commemorations, concerts, festivals, theatre plays, screening shows, firing torches, distributing leaflets, hanging banners and so on will be subjected to permission of the local administration. All events are banned in Mardin for 912 days since October 17, 2019.

Hakkari Governorate made a declaration on April 3, 2022 and announced that all meetings, open-door assemblies, demonstrations, marches, sit-in protests, human chains, op-ed stands, public sessions, any kind of audio-visual activities with mobile audio-visual vehicles, hunger strikes, opening stands, collecting petitions, flying sky lanterns or balloons, commemorations, concerts, festivals, theatre plays, screening shows, firing torches, distributing leaflets, hanging banners and so on are banned for 15 days as of April 4, 2022. All events are banned in Hakkari for 622 days since June 5, 2020.

It is learned that the website of Jinnews agency https://www.jinnews39.xyz is banned to access on the ground of protection of national security and public order, by Diyarbakır Penal Court of Peace No 4 on April 1, 2022.

It is learned that the website of Etkin news agency https://www.etha36.com is banned to access on the ground of protection of national security and public order, by Diyarbakır Penal Court of Peace No 5 on April 1, 2022.

It is learned that the website of Özgür Gelecek magazine https://ozgurgelecek34.net/ is banned to access by Diyarbakır Penal Court of Peace No 3 on April 1, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 1, 2022, that the Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) dismissed Diyarbakır Regional Court of Justice Member Halil Erkeş and Büyükçekmece Public Prosecutor Osman Görgünoğlu on the grounds of “connection and affiliation with an illegal organization”.

The Ministry of Health declared that 45 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 13,367 as of April 1, 2022.

The Ministry of Health declared that 42 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 11,783 as of April 2, 2022.

The Ministry of Health declared that 38 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 9,021 as of April 3, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 98,157 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 14,894,731 as of April 3, 2022.
