It is learned from the news coverage of September 18, 2024, that the 1-month communication penalty given to 26 prisoners by the prison administration for holding an activity about Kobanê in Izmir Şakran Women’s Prison on July 19, 2024, and the 1-month visit ban given to 5 prisoners for 1 month each, were lifted by the decision of Karşıyaka Courthouse Execution Court No 1.
It is learned from the news coverage of 19 September 2024 that Dursun Ali Koyuncu, a prisoner in Artvin Closed Prison was transferred to Kars T Type Prison against his will.

It is learned from the news coverage of 19 September 2024 that İsmail Tüzün, an ill prisoner in Kırşehir High-Security Prison, has been prevented from access to treatment for 3 months, on the grounds of rejecting strip searches and oral searches during hospital transfers.

It is learned that the appeal made on September 19, 2024, to the chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by lawyers in order to visit their clients PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in İmralı Prison was not responded.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 19, 2024, that a person reported to be the mufti of Çatalca attacked Polonez workers who had a watch demonstration in front of Çatalca District Governorate in the Çatalca district of Istanbul, about dismissal of union members for violations at their workplace, by saying ‘Turn off the sound’ and the same person attempted to take the phone of a worker who was trying to record the attack on video.

On September 18, 2024, gendarmerie intervened in the sit-in in front of the mine in the Soma district of Manisa on the grounds that 7 workers of Fernas Maden, owned by Justice and Development Party (AKP) Batman MP Ferhat Nasırlıoğlu, were dismissed from their jobs due to their union membership and detained 5 people including Gökay Çakır, chair of Independent Mine Workers’ Union.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 19, 2024, that shacks and tents of Roma people living in the Altınoluk neighborhood of Balıkesir’s Edremit district were demolished, gendarmerie intervened against the people protesting the demolition by using physical violence and detained 4 people in handcuffs behind their backs. The names of the detainees could not be learned.
Güner Karaca, one of the people whose shacks were demolished, stated the following to the press: “We ask the mayor and administrators, who introduce themselves as social democrats, who demolished our shacks: Don’t we also have the right to live and shelter like human beings? How will our children go to school?”

From the news coverage of 19 September 2024, Emine Şenyaşar, whose husband Hacı Esvet Şenyaşar and sons Adil and Celal Şenyaşar were killed after a quarrel between Justice and Development Party (AKP) parliamentary candidate İbrahim Halil Yıldız and his bodyguards and shopkeepers in Suruç district of Urfa on June 14, 2018; and who is still holding a vigil for justice in front of Grand National Assembly of Turkey (Grand National Assembly of Turkey), was prevented by the police from going to the building where DEM Party Group is located after a press conference with Ferit Şenyaşar, Urfa MP of Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party). It is reported in the news that the police prevented Emine Şenyaşar on the grounds that there was a decision that she would not be allowed to pass. It is learned that no information was given by which authority and on what grounds the decision was taken.

The trial of the case against 10 people (B. O., Y. A. G., İ. K., İ. C. A., İ. K., İ. A., İ. A., U. B. Ö., M. Y. Y. Y., M. M. Ö. and D. Ç.) who were detained during the ‘Democracy Watch’ in front of the Supreme Electoral Board (YSK) and Ankara Provincial and District Electoral Boards buildings about the alleged irregularities in the 14 May 2023 elections, started on 17 September 2024 at Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No 27. The indictment demands a sentence for 10 people on the charge of ‘violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No 2911’. After defense hearings, the court adjourned the trial to 16 January 2025.

The trial of the case against Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) Deputy Co-Chair Ebru Yiğit, ESP PM members Birkan Polat and Hıdır Ali Kılıç and Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF) FMK and Free Young Women (ÖGK) Central Coordination member Sinem Çelebi started on 18 September 2024 at Izmir Penal Court of First Instance No 18. The indictment demands a sentence for 4 people on the charge of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’. The court released 4 people and adjourned the trial to a later date.
Ebru Yiğit, Birkan Polat, Hıdır Ali Kılıç and Sinem Çelebi were detained on 19 March 2024 and arrested on 22 March 2024.

The retrial of the case against journalist Hayri Demir, who was sentenced to 2 years 9 months, and 22 days for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’, continued on September 18, 2024, at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 15. The court adjourned the trial to 20 November 2024.

The final hearing of the case against journalist Neşe İdil, on the grounds of a statement she used in a social media post about former Minister of Family and Social Services Derya Yanık, was held on 19 September 2024 at Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of First Instance No 8. The court sentenced Neşe İdil to 14.160 TL judicial fine and deferred the announcement of the verdict.
(09/187) Journalist on Trial in Bitlis…
The first trial of the case against journalist Sinan Aygül, who is also the chair of Bitlis Journalists’ Association, on the allegations of threatening the bodyguards of the mayor who attacked him, started on 19 September 2024 at Bitlis Tatvan Penal Court of First Instance No 1. The court adjourned the hearing to 12 December 2024.
On 17 June 2023, Sinan Aygül was subjected to physical violence by two bodyguards of Tatvan Mayor Mehmet Emin Geylani, one of whom was a police officer, after his news reports on corruption and irregularities in Tatvan Municipality in Bitlis.

The trial of the case against journalist Bülent Kılıç, who was detained by physical violence and handcuffed behind his back while he was following the Pride March in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on June 26, 2021; was held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 19 on September 19, 2024. The indictment demands a sentence for Bülent Kılıç on the charges of ‘resisting to prevent duty’ and ‘publicly insulting a public officer on duty’. The court adjourned the trial to 16 January 2025.
(09/189) People on Trial for the Killing of an Asylum Seeker/Refugee Mine Worker…
The trial of the case against 6 people, about Vezir Mohammad Nourtani, a worker from Afghanistan, who was working in an illegal mine in Zonguldak, and who was left to die by the mine owners, relatives, and 2 employees after he was seriously injured in a work accident on 9 November 2023, and then his body was cremated, continued on 18 September 2024 at Zonguldak Heavy Penal Court No 1. The court decided to continue the detention of 3 arrestees and adjourned the trial to 20 December 2024.
It is also reported in the news that the families of the defendants walked towards the people who made a press statement after the hearing and used discriminatory and hateful expressions such as ‘We gave them bread, migrants out’.

It is learned from the news coverage of 19 September 2024 that, the Constitutional Court evaluated the individual application of Uğur Ayhan Zor, whose mother and sibling died in the double explosion that killed 51 people in Reyhanlı district of Hatay on 11 May 2013, about the rejection of the lawsuit filed to Hatay Administrative Court for compensation of material and moral damages on the grounds of statute of limitations, and ruled that ‘right to access to court within the scope of right to a fair trial is violated’.
(09/191) Person Who Was Not Examined on the Grounds of Not Speaking Turkish…
It is learned from the news coverage of 19 September 2024 that, Fatma Sümeli, who applied to Siirt Training and Research Hospital Ear Nose and Throat Outpatient Clinic on September 17, 2024 due to hearing problems, was not examined for SRT hearing test on the grounds that she does not speak Turkish. It is learned that the physician on duty wrote ‘SRT values could not be measured because the patient does not speak Turkish’ on the SRT test document and recommended Fatma Sümeli to go to another hospital. It is also reported in the news that a complaint was made to the Ministry of Health about Fatma Sümeli not being examined.
Abbas Sümeli, the son of Fatma Sümeli, stated the following in to the press: “We went to the hospital because my mother had no hearing in her ear. When we went to the hospital, we had an ear test. They put her on a device here. Then my mother saw a doctor. They asked us to go to Amed or Êlih. When we looked at the paper they gave us, it said ‘SRT values could not be measured because the patient does not speak Turkish’. We could have translated it there, but they did not ask for a translation. However, here they asked us to take the patient directly to another place. Some people spoke Kurdish there. We were also there, but we were asked to go to another city”.

It was learned from the news coverage of September 18, 2024, that, the website of the weekly Xwebûn newspaper at www.xwebun.org was banned from access by Adana Criminal Peace Judgeship No 5 on September 17, 2024.
