It is learned from the news coverage of October 17, 2021 that, prisoners who were transferred from Kırıkkale F Type Prison to Kocaeli Kandıra F Type Prison No 1 were subjected to torture and ill-treatment at the entrance of prison.
(10/197) Police Intervention to Protest in Istanbul…
The police intervened the press declaration at Çağlayan Courthouse in in Istanbul on October 18, 2021, organized by the Association of Families of Prisoners (TAYAD), to protest detention of at least 80 people through an Istanbul based investigation on October 15, 2021; and detained 3 people. Detained people are released on the same day.

On October 15, 2021, at least 80 people have been detained in operations covering 15 cities through an Istanbul based investigation. 4 people (Ali Naki Özdemir, Deniz Özyılmaz, Ezgi Doğan and Gülçin Nilgün Kaya) are arrested by the court on October 18, 2021 while 6 people are released on judicial control conditions.

The trial of the case against Ahmet Altan, Yasemin Çongar, Yıldıray Oğur, Tuncay Opçin and Mehmet Baransu, former employees of Taraf newspaper, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 13 on October 19, 2021.
The indictment demands sentence for 5 people on the charges of ‘destroying or damaging, stealing by deception, making use outside the assigned place of documents or certificates relating to the security of the state’, ‘securing information that is to be kept confidential for reasons relating to the security of the state’, ‘disclosing information that is to be kept confidential for reasons relating to the security of the state’, and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’.
The court decided to deliver the complainant lawyers’ demand for recusation to a higher court and adjourned the trial to November 12, 2021.

The trial of the case against 8 people including 5 journalists (Rojda Aydın, Halime Parlak, Nurcan Yalçın, Ahmet Kanbal and Mehmet Şah Oruç) was to be held at Mardin Penal Court of First Instance No 2 on October 20, 2021. It is learned that the prosecutor declared legal opinion on October 18, 2021, before the trial, and demanded acquittal of 8 people. 8 people were detained in the police intervention to protests against trustee appointment to Mardin Municipality, on August 20, 2019.

The final trial of the case against Mehmet Eşref Mamedoğlu, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Party Assembly member, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 9 on October 18, 2021 The court sentenced Mehmet Eşref Mamedoğlu to 7 years and 6 months on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

The Ministry of Health declared that 214 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 29,240 as of October 18, 2021.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 68,263 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 7,645,040 as of October 18, 2021.
On October 18, 2021, Melek Çolak, a nurse in Konya, lost her life due to Covid-19.
