(11/185) People Who Lost Their Lives and Got Wounded in a Landslide in Rize…

It is learned from the news coverage of 19 November 2024 that, 1 person named Yakup Ali Bayraktar (35, m) lost his life and 2 people got wounded in a landslide in the Çayeli district of Rize.

(11/186) Attack on a Party Building in Istanbul…

It is learned from the news coverage of 17 November 2024 that, Justice and Development Party (AKP) Istanbul Beylikdüzü district office was attacked by an anonymous person or persons on 16 November 2024, causing material damage.

(11/187) Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of 19 November 2024 that, Şaban Kaygusuz, a prisoner in Kayseri Bünyan T Type Prison No 2, was interrupted before the end of a phone call, after he spoke Kurdish during the phone call with his family on 18 November 2024. It is also stated in the news reports that a correction officer said ‘speaking in Kurdish is forbidden’ before the call was interrupted.

It is learned from the news coverage of 19 November 2024 that, Bedirhan Sarsılmaz, a prisoner in Istanbul Marmara (Silivri) Prison, was subjected to disciplinary proceedings by the prison administration for greeting another prisoner. It is also reported in the news that correction officers intervened Bedirhan Sarsılmaz while he was greeting another prisoner and tried to prevent him from greeting.

(11/188) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan not Responded to…

It is learned that the appeal made on November 19, 2024, to the chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by lawyers in order to visit their clients PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in İmralı Prison was not responded.

(11/189) People Detained and Arrested for The Protests Against the Trustee Decisions…

12 of 24 people including 6 children who were detained on 16 November 2024, on the grounds of protests in Batman against the decision to dismiss co-mayors of Mardin, Batman and the Halfeti district of Urfa on 4 November 2024 and appoint trustees in their place, were arrested by the Criminal Peace Judgeship on 19 November 2024 on the charge of ‘resisting to prevent duty’. 12 people including 6 children were released on judicial control conditions.

Names of the arrested persons: Ömer Altınışık, Hüseyin Turan, Diyar Alkanat, Muhammed Nurullah, Muhammed Avcıl, Barış Çal, Yakup Yunultaş, Yasin Taşan, Yusuf Yavuz, Davut Yalvaç, Fırat Çeken, Numan Baykal.

(11/190) Journalist Arrested in Istanbul…

Journalist Furkan Karabay, who was arrested on 9 November 2024 in Istanbul on the allegations of ‘insulting a public official on duty’, ‘targeting public officials involved in the fight against terrorism’ and ‘publicly disseminating misleading information’, was released on 18 November 2024 after his lawyers’ appeal against the arrest warrant was accepted by Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 17.

(11/191) Party Executives Detained in Istanbul…

On 18 November 2024, Istanbul Esenyurt Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) district office was raided by the police and DEM Party Esenyurt district co-chairs Rojda Yılmaz and Abdullah Arınan were detained at the police station where they went to give their official statements on the same date. It is reported that the investigation file includes a 24-hour restriction on lawyer visits.

(11/192) Journalists and Others on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against 22 people including 20 journalists continued on 19 November 2024 at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 4. The indictment demands a sentence for 22 people on the charge of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’. The court rejected to lift judicial control conditions on journalists and adjourned the trial to 15 May 2025.

22 people were detained on 8 June 2022 and 16 journalists (Mezopotamya News Agency editor Aziz Oruç, Jinnews News Director Safiye Alağaş, Dicle Fırat Journalists Association Co-Chair Serdar Altan on 16 June 2022, Xwebûn newspaper Managing Editor Mehmet Ali Ertaş and journalists Ömer Çelik, Neşe Toprak, Mehmet Şahin, Zeynel Abidin Bulut, Elif Üngör, Remziye Temel, Suat Doğuhan, Lezgin Akdeniz, İbrahim Koyuncu, Abdurrahman Öncü, Ramazan Geciken and Mazlum Güler) were arrested by the court. Detained journalists Gülşen Koçuk, Kadir Bayram, Mehmet Yalçın, Esmer Tunç and 2 others (Feynaz Koçuk and İhsan Ergünlü) were released on judicial control conditions. On 21 March 2023, the court decided to separate the case against Jinnews News Director Safiye Alağaş, journalist Gülşen Koçuk, Feynaz Koçuk and İhsan Ergünlü.

15 journalists (Dicle Fırat Journalists Association Co-Chair Serdar Altan, Xwebûn newspaper Managing Editor Mehmet Ali Ertaş, Aziz Oruç, Ömer Çelik, Neşe Toprak, Mehmet Şahin, Zeynel Abidin Bulut, Elif Üngör, Remziye Temel, Suat Doğuhan, Lezgin Akdeniz, İbrahim Koyuncu, Abdurrahman Öncü, Ramazan Geciken and Mazlum Güler) were released at the first hearing of the case against them on 11 July 2023.

(11/193) A Child and Others Detained and Arrested for the Protests Against the Trustee Decisions…

3 people (Fatma Öztürk, Rojhat Taş, Şeyhmus Kavri) of the 5 people including 1 child, who were detained in Mardin on 4 November 2024 in response to the decision to dismiss co-mayors of Mardin, Batman, and the Halfeti district of Urfa and appoint trustees in their place, were released by the Criminal Peace Judgeship on 15 November 2024. 2 of them (Ferhat Erdem and M.Ç.) were arrested on the grounds of ‘damaging public property’ and ‘committing a crime on behalf of an illegal organization without being a member of an illegal organization’.

On 16 November 2024, 24 people including 6 children were detained in house raids in Batman for the same protests. The detainees whose names are known are Aziz Dal, Hakan Şimşek, Hasan Eraslan, Ömer Altınışık, Mustafa Akgül, Hüseyin Turan, Ferhat Sakin, Ferit Turan, and Mehmet Evcil.

(11/194) Foundation Members on Trial in Istanbul…

The final hearing of the case against 8 members of Science, Aesthetics, Culture and Art Research Foundation (BEKSAV) Cinema Collective was held on 19 November 2024 at Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of First Instance No 45. The court acquitted 8 people on the charge of ‘opposing Law No 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations’.

When BEKSAV Cinema Collective announced that it would screen a film titled ‘PRIDE’ about the solidarity between mine workers and LGBTI+’s on 7 June 2023 as part of Pride Month, Kadıköy District Governorate announced that the event was banned. On the day of the screening, the foundation building was blockaded by the police and 8 people were detained under torture and ill-treatment.

It is learned from the news coverage of 19 November 2024 that, 7 proceedings demanding a lift of impunity of 7 parliamentary members were submitted to Grand National Assembly of Turkey (‘TBMM’).

  • Independent Istanbul Deputy Cemal Enginyurt,
  • Independent Ankara MP Yüksel Arslan.

It is learned from the news coverage of 19 November 2024 that, 1 news report on https://www.diken.com.tr was banned from access by Mardin Midyat Criminal Peace Judgeship on the grounds of national security and protection of public order, on 18 November 2024.

(11/197) People Detained Through Operations in 66 Cities…

The Ministry of Interior announced on 19 November 2024 that 459 people were detained in operations conducted in 66 cities on the allegations of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’, ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’, ‘communicating via payphones’, ‘sheltering in cell houses’, ‘using ByLock’ and having search records against them.
