Human Rights Association (IHD) co-chair Öztürk Türkdoğan is detained in Ankara on March 19, 2021.
It is learned that Öztürk Türkdoğan will be prevented from seeing his lawyer for 24 hours.
(03/219) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…
The police intervened the press declaration to protest Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MP Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu’s being stripped of MP status, and detained 9 people in Ankara on March 18, 2021. It is learned that the police prevented journalists recording the protest.
Detained 9 people (Melek Çetinkaya, Cemal Yıldırım, Nadire Demirkol, Zana Aksu, Muhammed Semih Karaoğlu, Halil İbrahim İlhan, Resul Kalyoncu, İbrahim Demir Yürek and Adnan Vural) are released after statement procedures on the same day.
(03/220) Police Prevention to a Protest in Urfa…
It is learned that the justice watch of Emine Şenyaşar in front of Urfa Courthouse is prevented by the police on the grounds of “blocking vehicle and pedestrian access” on March 18, 2021.
It is learned that Emine Şenyaşar, her son Ferit Şenyaşar and their lawyers who wanted to see the prosecutor about prevention were prevented from entering the courthouse, on the grounds that “they would hold a protest” It is learned that the lawyers filed a criminal complaint against the police preventing them.
It is learned that the police forced Emine Şenyaşar away the courthouse and she held the protest somewhere else.
On June 14, 2018, Justice and Development Party Urfa MP candidate İbrahim Halil Yıldız and his personal guards had a quarrel with shopkeepers in Suruç district of Urfa which resulted in death of Emine Şenyaşar’s husband Hacı Esved Şenyaşar and her sons Adil and Celal Şenyaşar.

On March 18, 2021, 10 members and executives of HDP are detained in house raids in Ankara.
Some of the detainees are: HDP Ankara Women’s Assembly spokesperson Zeyno Bayramoğlu, HDP Party Assembly member Ali Özkan, HDP Eskişehir provincial co-chair Şükriye Ercan, HDP provincial executive Bedirye Irmak, HDP Çankaya district co-chair Ramazan Karakoç, HDP Mamak district co-chair Mustafa Uğur Akkaya, HDP Mamak district executive Laleş Ekmen, Hüseyin Gevher and Betül Koca.
It is learned that detained people will be prevented from seeing their lawyers for 24 hours.

On March 18, 2021, 4 people are detained in house raids in Cizre district of Şırnak. The reason of detention is unknown.
Detained people are: HDP Party Assembly member Azad Polat, HDP Youth Assembly member Berfin Can, Tevgera Jinên Azad – Free Women’s Movement (TJA) activist Hediye Yayık and Ruşen Sarısak.

HDP Aydın provincial co-chair Elvan Öziş is detained on March 2021. The reason of detention is unknown.
(12/224) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…
The trial of the case against Cumhuriyet newspaper reporter Hazal Ocak, photographer Vedat Arık, executive editor Olcay Büyüktaş Akça and managing editor İpek Özbey, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 26 on March 18, 2021. The case was opened for the news reports about Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s demolishing of construction built in public property rented by Fahrettin Altun, Communications Director Republic of Turkey.
The indictment demands sentence for journalists on the charges of ‘making a person target for terrorist organisations’ and ‘violation of privacy’.
The court accepted Fahrettin Altun’s demand to intervene the case and adjourned the trial to June 24, 2021.

The final trial of the case against journalist Arif Aslan is held at Van Heavy Penal Court No 5 on March 18, 2021.
The indictment demands sentence for Arif Aslan on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.
After defence hearings the court acquitted Arif Aslan.
(03/226) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…
On March 18, 2021, 1 person who was detained at Ankara Esenboğa Airport is arrested by the court.
It is learned that a detention warrant is issued through an Istanbul based investigation, for 75 security employees including 67 people dismissed from their jobs by state of emergency decrees, 1 retired and 7 on active duty; and operations are initiated in 16 cities on March 18, 2021.
(03/218) Covid-19 Pandemic…
The Ministry of Health declared that 81 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 902 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on March 18, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 20.049.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 29,777 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 2,950,603 as of March 18, 2021.
It is learned that pharmacist Lamina Yüksel in Samsun and doctor Gürdal Gönenç in Izmir lost their lives from Covid-19 on March 18, 2021.
On March 19, 2021, Worker Health and Worker Safety Council (ISIG) declared its report on the first year of Covid-19 in Turkey and stated that at least 861 workers died from Covid-19 between March 11, 2020 and March 10, 2021.
