(03/208) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of March 18, 2020 that, prisoners who were subjected to torture and ill-treatment for rejecting to stand in line during roll-calls in Manisa T Type and who were injured due to torture, were subjected to disciplinary penalties on the grounds of ‘objection to roll-calls and threatening officers on duty’. It is also stated in the news reports that lawyers coming to prison to visit prisoners were threatened by sub-director of prison by ‘being forcefully taken out’.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 18, 2020 that wards of political prisoners in Trabzon Beşikdüzü T Type Prison were searched by wardens and police officers and personal belongings of prisoners were scattered around during searches.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 18, 2020 that in Bayburt M Type Prison, wards were not being disinfected, and wardens in close contact with prisoners.

(03/209) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1226 days to regain their jobs, in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on March 18, 2020 at 13.30 and at 18.00, and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence. It is learned that 1 person (Mehmet Dersulu) is detained at police intervention at 18.00. Mehmet Dersulu is released on the same day.

On March 18, 2020, 1 person is detained for social media posts on Covid-19 pandemic, in Adana.

(03/211) Covid-19 Pandemic…

Ministry of Health declared that 1 person died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 93 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on March 18, 2020.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 2 and total number of confirmed cases is 191 as of March 18, 2020.
