(06/107) Police Intervention in Istanbul…

On June 18, 2025, prior to the “Defending the Will of the People” rally organized by the Republican People’s Party (CHP) in the Avcılar district of Istanbul, police intervened in the “Justice and Freedom March” planned by the CHP Women’s Branch in the same district. No arrests were reported during the intervention.

(06/108) Journalist and Others on Trial in Istanbul…

An indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against 66 people, including journalist Zişan Gür, who were detained after being physically assaulted by police during a protest against the arrest and detention of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu on March 23, 2025, in Saraçhane Square in the Fatih district of Istanbul, was accepted by the Istanbul 26th Criminal Court of First Instance No. 2. The indictment seeks the prosecution of the 66 individuals for violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911. The first hearing of the case will take place on September 19, 2025.

Of the 66 people detained, 26 were arrested by the magistrate’s court to which they were referred on March 26, 2026, while 40 were released on judicial control. The 26 arrested individuals were released on April 10, 2025, with the acceptance of the indictment prepared against them.

(06/109) Trial of a Journalist in Van…

The final hearing of the retrial of journalist Adnan Bilen, who was sentenced to a fine for insulting the President in the Van Court of First Instance No. 4, was held on June 18, 2025, after the Supreme Court overturned the sentence.

The court ruled that Adnan Bilen be acquitted.

(06/110) Trial of a Party Member in Izmir…

The trial of Fatma Funda Akbulut, an employee of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), which was initiated at the İzmir Heavy Penal Court No. 18, began on June 18, 2025. The indictment seeks the punishment of Fatma Funda Akbulut for “membership in an organization.” The hearing was postponed to November 4, 2025.

(06/111) Concert Cancelled…

It has been learned that the concert to be held by the Geneva Camerata group on June 18, 2025, as part of the 53rd Istanbul Music Festival, under the name “Revolta (Rebellion),” has been cancelled upon notification by the Beşiktaş District Governor’s Office. According to news reports, the President’s Chief Advisor shared a social media post calling for the concert to be canceled on the grounds that the group’s composer was a former member of the Israeli Army Orchestra.
