(06/245) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 18, 2020 that, HPG takes the responsibility for the attack to a vehicle around Mehmetalan neighbourhood of Özalp district of Van on May 14, 2020, which killed 2 people (Yıldırım Demir, Kinyaz Karaoğlu) and injured 1 person.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 18, 2020 that, 3 militants died in a clash between Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Haftanin region on Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government.

(06/246) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 18, 2020 that, Ministry of Justice responded the parliamentary question of Republican People’s Party (CHP) Istanbul MP Sezgin Tanrıkulu about torture and ill-treatment against prisoners; and it is stated in the response that 396 applications were made to the ministry about torture and ill-treatment between October 1, 2019 and June 18, 2020.

(06/247) Interventions to “Democracy March”…

On June 18, 2020, 4 poeple including Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) district co-chair Mustafa Akkaya are detained by the police in Tuzluçayır neighbourhood of Mamak district of Ankara while they were hanging banners saying “We Are Gathering in Ankara on June 20, for Democracy, Justice, Peace, Freedom, Jobs and Bread” for “Democracy March” of HDP. Detained people are released on June 19, 2020.

5 people including journalist Hasan Akbaba are detained by the police after the public meeting at Abbasağa Park in Beşiktaş district of Istanbul, as a part of HDP’s “Democracy March”. Detained poeple are released on the same day after statement procedures at the police.

(06/248) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declarations of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1318 days to regain their jobs, in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 18, 2020 at 13.30 and 18.00 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(06/249) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Düzce…

On June 18, 2020, the police intervened the press declaration of Alev Şahin in order to regain her job from which she was dismissed by a state of emergency decree, in front of Düzce Governorate and detained her. Alev Şahin was released on the same day.

(06/250) Detained People in Mardin…

5 people who were detained on June 10, 2020, in house raids in Nusaybin district of Mardin on June 10, 2020, on the grounds of participating in demonstrations during curfews, are released on June 18, 2020. Detained people were: Şoreş Saltıkalp, Engit Aykut, Mehmet Emin Nergiz, İmran Özbey and Namet Doğan.

(06/251) Person Arrested with Her Children in Diyarbakır…

It is learned that Eylem Oyunlu, who went with her 2 children (one of which is 10 days old and the other is at the age of 2) to the prosecutor’s office in Lice district of Diyarbakır on June 18, 2020, to give her official statement through an investigation against her, is arrested by the court on the same day.

(06/252) The Cases Against Academics Who Are the Signatories of the Petition “We will not be a party to this crime!”…

The retrial of the case against Assist. Professor Lütfiye Bozdağ from Istanbul Kemerburgaz University for signing the petition “We will not be a party to this crime!” is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 37 on June 18, 2020. 1 year and 6 months’ sentence given to Lütfiye Bozdağ has been reversed. The court acquitted Lütfiye Bozdağ.

602 of 822 cases against academicians for signing the petition “We will not be a party to this crime!” are resulted in acquittal as of June 19, 2020.

(06/253) AABK Honorary President on Trial…

The final trial of the case against Turgut Öker, honorary president of European Alevi Associations Confederation (AABK), on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 21 on June 18, 2020. The court sentenced Turgut Öker to 11 months and 20 days and then converted it to a fine of 7.000 Turkish Liras.

(06/254) Musician on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against musician Azad Bedran, which started again after reversal of sentence given on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 8 on June 18, 2020. After defence hearings the court sentenced Azad Bedran once again to 3 years and 9 months on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’.

(06/255) Hande Buse Şeker Case…

The trial of the case against police officer V.H. on the grounds of sexually assaulting and killing trans woman Hande Buse Şeker in Izmir on January 9, 2019, is held at Izmir Heavy Penal Court No 4 on June 18, 2020.

The indictment demands sentence for the police officer on the charges of ‘injury by probable intent’, ‘wilful murder’, ‘qualified robbery with the use of weapon in property’, ‘insulting the memory of a person’, ‘qualified sexual assault’.

The court decided to continue detention of police officer V. H. and adjourned the trial to September 28, 2020.

(06/256) Investigation Against a Person in Istanbul…

It is learned that an investigation was initiated against Ceren Çoban, who got wounded in the bombing attack in Suruç; for a petition she submitted to Urfa Heavy Penal Court No 5 which is in charge of the case about bombing attack.

It is learned that Ceren Çoban who goes to give her official statement through this investigation was detained on a warrant through another investigation against her and was released after statement procedures on the same day.

(06/257) Trials in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The final trial of the case against 4 poeple including Sedat Kaya, former adjutant of former Second Army Commander Adem Huduti, is held at Malatya Heavy Penal Court No 1 on June 18, 2020. The court sentenced 3 people to 7 years and 6 months each for ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and 1 person to heavy life imprisonment for ‘attempt to demolish the constitutional order’.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 18, 2020 that access to a news report on website of newspaper is banned on verdict of Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of Peace No 6 on June 8, 2020.

(06/259) Covid-19 Pandemic…

Ministry of Health declared that 21 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 1,304 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on June 18, 2020.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 4,882 and total number of confirmed cases is 184,031 as of June 18, 2020.

On June 18, 2020 Ministry of Interior announced limited curfews in 81 cities from 09:00 to 15:00 on June 20, 2020 during High School Entrance Exam; and from 09:30 to 15:00 on June 27, 2020 and from 09:30 to 18:30 on June 28, 2020 during Higher Education Institutions Examination.
