(07/110) Operations and Attacks…

The Ministry of Interior declared that 1 soldier (Mustafa Bozkurt) died and 1 soldier was injured in the bombing attacks against Turkish Armed Forces units in rural areas of Çatak district of Van on July 18, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 19, 2022 that, 3 militants died in a clash between Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in rural areas of Nusaybin district of Mardin.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 18, 2022 that, Emrah Yakut, a prisoner in Erzurum High Security Prison No 1 was subjected to torture and ill-treatment of the correction officers and was threatened to death.

(07/112) Hunger Strike in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 18, 2022 that, Mahmut Turhallı, a prisoner in Ağrı Pantos L Type Prison was on hunger strike since July 6, 2022 to demand an end to right violations, torture and ill-treatment.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 19, 2022 that, the political prisoners in Adana Kürkçüler F Type Prison started a 5-day hunger strike in turns to demand an end to right violations, torture and ill-treatment.

(07/113) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on July 19, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.

(07/114) Gendarmerie Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The gendarmerie intervened in the watch that was initiated by Koç University workers following the press statement regarding the undelivered social rights and bonuses made in front of the university campus in Istanbul on July 18, 2022, and detained 20 people, including lawyer Mehmet Eroldu.

(07/115) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration which were made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on July 18, 2022 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(07/116) Deniz Poyraz Case…

The trial of the case against Onur Gencer, for killing Deniz Poyraz in the armed attack against Izmir office of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) on June 17, 2021, is held at Izmir Heavy Penal Court No 16 on July 18, 2022.

The indictment demands heavy life imprisonment and jail sentence up to 7 years for Onur Gencer on the charges of ‘intentional killing’, ‘violation of immunity of residence’ and ‘qualified damage to buildings, premises or moveable property owned or used by a political party, a professional organization having the status of a public institution or a higher federation of such’.

It is learned that a person came to the courthouse with a gun as the trial was being held, and said, “Where are the leftists, show me the leftists. I do not shoot the police. Bring the leftists, I will kill them” to threaten the people coming to join the trial. It is learned that this person was detained by the police.

Defendant Onur Gencer attended the trial. The court did not allow Özkan Yücel, chair of the İzmir Bar Association, to ask questions to the defendant on the grounds that he did not have a power of attorney. After the discussion, the court adjourned the trial. After the interrogation and the witness statements, the court decided to continue the detention of Onur Gencer and adjourned the trial to October 12, 2022.

(07/117) Academician on Trial in Ankara…

The first trial of the case against academician Sibel Bekiroğlu is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 22 on July 18, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for Sibel Bekiroğlu on the charge of “being an illegal organisation member”. Sibel Bekiroğlu attended the trial and made defence declaration. The court adjourned the trial to December 8, 2022.

(07/118) Ban of Events in Hakkari…

Hakkari Governorate made a declaration on July 18, 2022 and announced that all meetings, open-door assemblies, demonstrations, marches, sit-in protests, human chains, op-ed stands, public sessions, any kind of audio-visual activities with mobile audio-visual vehicles, hunger strikes, opening stands, collecting petitions, flying sky lanterns or balloons, commemorations, concerts, festivals, theatre plays, screening shows, firing torches, distributing leaflets, hanging banners and so on are banned for 15 days as of July 18, 2022.

(07/119) Ban of Concerts in Tunceli…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 18, 2022 that the concerts of Grup Yorum and Grup İsyan Ateşi which were to be held as a part of Munzur Nature and Culture Festival were banned by the governorate’s office.

(07/120) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

It is learned that 21 people are detained in operations covering 6 cities through an Ankara based investigation; 7 people are detained in operations covering 9 cities through another Ankara based investigation; 13 people are detained in Ankara and 2 people are detained in Adana on July 19, 2022.
