(12/164) Suspicious Soldier Death in Şırnak…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 19, 2023, that on December 16, 2023, Ökkeş Gök, a specialist sergeant at Gendarmerie Station in Güneyçam village of Şırnak, committed suicide in his dormitory. It is learned that Ökkeş Gök reported in the letter found after he committed suicide in his dormitory that he was subjected to bullying, threats, and insults from his superiors, and he could not tolerate it anymore.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 18, 2023, that 3 prisoners (Mustafa Yılmaz, Şervan Aluş, and Ramazan Tufan) in Ağrı Patnos Prison, who are on a hunger strike demanding an end to the isolation of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, were not given water, salt, sugar and were not provided daily health checks.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 18, 2023, that Kübra Filiz, a prisoner in Şakran Women’s Closed Prison in Izmir, who has been on hunger strike for 5 days demanding an end to the isolation of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, hit her head on the floor after fainting, but was not taken to an infirmary or hospital.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 18, 2023, that Fatma Özbay, a prisoner in Şakran Women’s Closed Prison in Izmir, was given expired cancer medication and that Özbay filed a criminal complaint to the Izmir Public Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the news coverage of December 18, 2023, the police intervened against the press statement organized by Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF), Revolutionary Forces of Youth (DEV-GÜÇ), Revolutionary Youth Union (DGB), Kaldıraç and Yeni Demokrat Gençlik (YDG) at the Ambarlı Port in the Beylikdüzü district of Istanbul about the relations between Turkey and Israel. It is not known how many people were detained as a result of the intervention. It is also reported that the police prevented journalists from taking video footage.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 18, 2023, that the private security unit of Istanbul University physically intervened against the students who were decorating a tree for New Year’s Eve, and some students got injured due to the intervention.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 18, 2023, that IYI Party MPs intervened when Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Mardin MP George Aslan took the floor in the parliament and celebrated Christmas in Turkish and Syriac, his mother tongue, and that IYI Parti Kocaeli MP Lütfü Türkkan said, “Mr. Chairman, are we watching a play? He should speak at home. This is the Grand National Assembly, not a place to be a law unto yourself. Speak on your private property, not here! Here, you cannot speak in any language you please,” and Ayyüce Türkeş Taş, a member of the IYI Parti, said, “We refuse this. Everyone will speak Turkish”.

(12/170) Constitutional Court Application Regarding the Ankara Train Station Massacre…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 16, 2023, that the individual application made by the victims to the Constitutional Court in 2016 on the grounds of violation of the right to life, prohibition of ill-treatment, right to assembly and demonstration, and prohibition of discrimination about the suicide bomb attack of ISIS on the Peace Rally in Ankara on October 10, 2015, which killed 103 people, was rejected as ‘inadmissible’.

(12/171) Constitutional Court Application Regarding the Soma Mining Massacre…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 16, 2023, that the application made to the Constitutional Court for ‘violation of the right to a trial within a reasonable period of time’ in relation to the labor killing of 301 miners in the Soma district of Manisa on May 13, 2014, was rejected by the Constitutional Court on the grounds of ‘inadmissibility’. It is also stated in the news reports that the application on the merits of the case is still under review.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 19, 2023, that the investigation against WDR Cosmo Turkish Director Tuncay Özdamar, on the grounds of targeting people who took part in the fight against terrorism in two posts he made in German on social media platform X (Twitter) in 2018, has resulted in a non-prosecution decision.

On December 19, 2023, 11 people were detained.
