It is claimed in the news coverage of August 18, 2021 that, 4 YBŞ militants and 4 health workers died in an air operation of Turkish Armed Forces to a hospital in Şengal area of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government.

(08/174) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Urfa…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 18, 2021 that, Mustafa Bektaş, who rang the doorbell of a police officer (F. Ç.) by mistake, in Ceylanpınar district of Urfa, was subjected to physical violence of the police officer and got his leg broken.

(08/175) Journalists Intervened by Watchmen in Istanbul…

It is learned that 3 journalists (Ahmet Yeşilmen, Kubilay Özev and Erdal Can İçelli) who were following a news story in Beylikdüzü district of Istanbul were subjected to physical violence of the watchmen on August 18, 2021.

Ahmet Yeşilmen shared the following on social media: “Last night I was with my cameraman Kubilay Özev and IHA agency reporter Erdal Can İçelli in Beylikdüzü to make news reports on Zümra Nur, who had gone missing and lost her life in the hospital afterwards; and we were subjected to an attack by the watchmen.”

It is learned that the appeal made on August 18, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s family and lawyers in order to visit their client was not responded.

(08/177) Prevention of HDP Event in Diyarbakır…

It is learned that the police prevented the group from the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) wanted to visit the shopkeepers in Silvan district of Diyarbakır on August 18, 2021; and surrounded the group by their shields.

(08/178) Detained People in Diyarbakır…

55 of 57 people who have been detained on August 13, 2021 in Diyarbakır are released after statement procedures at the police on August 18, 2021. It is learned that 2 people are still under custody.

(08/179) Detained People in Urfa for Participating in a Protest…

On August 18, 2021, 11 people are detained by the gendarmerie for participating in demonstration to protest Dicle Electricity Distribution company for power cuts and heavy electricity bills in Akçakale district of Urfa on August 13, 2021. 11 people are released by the court on judicial control conditions on the same day.

(08/180) Detained People for Social Media Posts in Ankara…

On August 18, 2021, 6 people including Ece Şimşek from HDP’s Press Office are detained in Ankara for their social media posts.

Detained people are: Ece Şimşek, Şehriban Başak, Mehmet Duymaz, Devrim Temel, Ahmet Özkaya, Fatma Bilge.

It is learned that the news reports on https://www.milligazete.com.tr, https://artigercek.com, https://abcgazetesi.com websites are banned to access by the Access Providers Association (ESB) on August 17, 2021.

(08/182) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 168 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 19,944 as of August 18, 2021.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 53,673 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 6,138,452 as of August 18, 2021.
