(04/156) May 14, 2023 General Elections…

It is learned that the Greens and Left Future Party (YSP) election campaign office in Efeler district of Aydın was attacked on April 18, 2023 which caused material damage in the office. It is reported that 2 children were detained in relation to the attack and they were released after statement procedures on the same day.

It is learned that an armed attack by anonymous person or persons was carried on the Republican People’s Party (CHP) election campaign office in Ataşehir district of Istanbul on April 18, 2023, which caused material damage in the office but no casualties.

The police intervened in the campaign stand of Ankara 1st region parliamentary candidate and the Socialist Labourer Party (SEP) chair Güneş Gümüş at Güvenpark in Çankaya district of Ankara on April 17, 2023 and detained 3 members of SEP. Detained people were released on the same day.

It is learned that the appeal made on April 18, 2023 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.

(04/158) Detained Co-Mayor in Şırnak…

Berivan Kutlu, Cizre district co-mayor in Şırnak who was suspended and replaced by a trustee, was detained with a person named Agit Malgaz on April 18, 2023. The reason for detention is unknown.

(04/159) Detained Journalist in Çanakkale…

Journalist Serdar Akinan who was detained in Ayvacık district of Çanakkale on April 19, 2023, through an investigation against him on the grounds of ‘publicly disseminating misleading information’ was taken to Istanbul through the investigation for which a confidentiality order was issued.

(04/160) People on Trial in Izmir…

The retrial of the case against 91 people for participating in a protest, is held on April 18, 2022, as the Penal Department No. 2 of Izmir Regional Court has overturned the local court’s verdict on January 31, 2022. The prosecutor declared legal opinion on the case and demanded acquittal of 6 people (Ali Düzgün Koçak, Celal Akbıyık, Coşkun Üsterci, Gizem Coşkun, Mustafa Aslan, Mustafa Doğan) and sentence for 85 people on the charge of ‘violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations’. The court adjourned the trial to July 14, 2023. The protest was organized by Izmir branches of Education and Science Workers’ Union (Egitim-Sen) of Confederation of Public Employees Unions (KESK) and several Alevi associations and was held on February 13, 2015 in Konak district of Izmir, where police intervened and detained 70 people by using physical violence. And a case was opened against 91 people afterwards.

(04/161) Person on Trial in Ankara…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 18, 2023 that, the Penal Department No. 6 of Ankara Regional Court has concluded on the appeal of the case against one person, who was sentenced to a penalty fine of 5,300 Turkish Liras by Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No. 25, for posting a comment on social media, saying “Put him in a nursing home, he is so senile” regarding the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) chair Devlet Bahçeli. The Penal Department has decided acquittal of the person, on the grounds of lack of criminal element in the statements.

(04/162) Earthquakes in Antep and Maraş…

The Minister of Family and Social Services made a statement on April 18, 2023 and declared that a total of 1,914 unaccompanied children were registered in the system, 1,802 of them were identified and given to their families, 31 children were in the hospital, 72 children were in the institutions of the ministry, and 17 children could not be identified.
