(07/139) Threatened Journalist…

It is learned from news coverage of July 20, 2025 that BirGün newspaper reporter İsmail Arı was threatened on social media accounts due to a news report he made,

İsmail Arı was previously threatened for the same news report. İsmail Arı stated that his criminal complaint about the threats he was subjected to was not investigated.

(07/140) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from news coverage of July 19, 2025 that, a disciplinary proceeding was initiated against Emre Erdem, a sick prisoner who was subjected to physical violence of wardens in Kırşehir S Type Prison, on the grounds of violence against wardens, and that the prisoner was sentenced to 12 days of solitary confinement within the investigation.

(07/141) Prisoners Adjourned to Release by Prison Administration and Observation Board…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 18, 2025 that, the release of Hasip Avşar, a prisoner in Aksaray T Type Prison, who completed his life sentence on March 30, 2025, was adjourned for 3 months by the decision of Prison Administration and Observation Board (CİGK), on the grounds that he rejected to repentance.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 21, 2025 that, the release of Sadık Hasan, a prisoner in Tekirdağ F Type Prison No 1, who completed the execution of his life sentence on January 9, 2025, is adjourned for 3 months by the decision of CIGC, on the grounds of rejecting to repentance.

(07/142) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the march in Çankaya district of Ankara on July 20, 2025, for the 10th anniversary of Suruç Massacre and detained 40 people by using physical violence and handcuffing them behind their backs. It is learned that 22 people were released after statement procedures at the police on the same day, 18 people are still under custody.

(07/143) Detained Journalists, Lawyers and Other People in Istanbul…

On July 19, 2025, 4 people including journalist Oğuz Bakır and lawyer Eren Doğru were detained in Istanbul, on the grounds of their social media posts about Republican People’s Party chair Özgür Özel’s remarks on a prosecutor investigating Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. 4 people were referred to the criminal court of peace on the same day and were released on house confinement.

It is learned from news coverage of July 21, 2025 that an investigation is initiated against Can Uğur, news director of Cumhuriyet Newspaper, for his news reports on allegations of fraud in LGS exam.

(07/145) Municipality Administrator on Trial in Mersin…

The final trial of the case against Bedrettin Gündeş, Head of Press and Public Relations Department of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, is held at Mersin Heavy Penal Court No 2 on July 18, 2025. The court acquitted Bedrettin Gündeş on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’.

Bedrettin Gündeş was detained on September 28, 2022, was arrested by the Criminal Court of Peace on September 29, 2022 and was released at the hearing of the case against him on June 9, 2023.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 19, 2025 that an investigation is initiated against Furkan Bölükbaşı on the grounds of ‘publicly insulting the memory of Atatürk’ through a social media post.

(07/147) Discriminatory and Phobic Practices in Istanbul…

On July 18, 2025, it is learned that the police raided and searched houses of trans women in a street in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul. It is reported that 3 people were detained after the raids.

A trans woman named B.İ. stated the following in her statement to the press “All entrances and exits of the street were closed at midnight. Then drones started to shoot from the air and many houses were raided. Hours before the operation, police teams went to one of the buildings on the street to collect information about the residents, asking questions such as ‘Who lives in this apartment? Then at around 23.00 at night, the police returned to the neighborhood, this time breaking down the doors. All the houses were searched, our belongings were ransacked.”

On July 19, 2025, it is reported in the news coverage of July 19, 2025 that Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) imposed an administrative fine on Sözcü TV for comments made in a program about Turkey’s relations with Israel.

It is learned that the online gaming platform https://www.arkadium.com/ was banned from access with the decision of the Information and Communication Technologies Authority dated July 18, 2025.
