It is learned from the news coverage of August 19, 2023 that 1 HPG militant died in an air operation of the Turkish Armed Forces in Haftanin area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on August 5, 2023.
It is learned from the news coverage of August 20, 2023 that 2 YRK militants died in an air operation of the Turkish Armed Forces in Süleymaniye area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on July 28, 2023.
(08/116) Syrian Citizen Died in Bursa…
Syrian citizen Beşir Eyma was found dead on the side of the highway in Bursa on August 18, 2023. It is stated in the news that the body of Beşir Eyma, who is considered to have died about 10 days ago, was taken to Bursa Forensic Medicine Institute to determine the exact cause of death.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 18, 2023, that Moroccan citizen Jamal Doumane was killed on August 14, 2023 by a taxi driver, whom he had an argument with in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul. It was learned that the taxi driver named D. G., who was detained, was released by the court on house confinement.
(08/118) Torture Under Custody in Ankara…
It is learned that 2 people (E. Y. and T. Ş.) who was detained after having a quarrel with undercover police officers in Ankara on August 19, 2023, were subjected to torture and ill-treatment of the police at Ankara Provincial Directorate of Security. It is reported that E. Y. suffers from eardrum rupture and T. Ş. suffers rib fracture.
It is learned that 2 people filed criminal complaints against the police officers after receiving medical reports evidencing torture and ill-treatment.
E. Y. stated the following: “After we were detained, a police officer said ‘Say you were sorry, and they will leave you’. We thought we were going to apologize to the people we argued with. We have nothing to do with the incident in any way, my nephew has already been detained. They put us both in a room at the police station. Cops with sticks and belts began to come from the corridor. They made us kneel down, asked us to take off our clothes. Just then, a policeman came and said, ‘Didn’t I say, I will get you, look what happened?’ He was one of the cops I saw during the day. At that time, hours of violence began. The cops we met during the day also appeared there. They are the ones who detained us.”
T. Ş. stated the following: “They were putting the handcuffs together and hitting them like whips. They were pouring water every now and then. They hit us with the belt, the fist, everything. My back was all bruised. There were insults and curses. Anyone going in through the corridor, was beating us and going back. We saw more than twenty police using violence.”

It is learned from the news coverage of August 20, 2023, Mehmet Çolak, the preacher of the Kurtuluş (Salvation) Church in Malatya, was threatened to death by a group calling itself the Turkish Revenge Brigade, saying “We will wipe out Christians like you from these lands, we will cut off the heads of all of you. You will change your religion (…) If you do not leave the church, we will cut your head off”.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 20, 2023 that, a prisoner named Resul Baltacı who was kept in Düzce Çilimli T Type Prison and whose release was postponed due to former penalties, was subjected to disciplinary proceedings and penalties on the grounds he wanted to send the pictures of him with his family via another prisoner.

It is learned that the appeal made on August 18, 2023 to the chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, in order to visit them was not responded.

The police used physical violence to force away the lawyers who came to support the justice watch of Emine Şenyaşar and his Greens and Left Future Party (YSP) Urfa MP son Ferit Şenyaşar, held outside of the Ministry of Justice in Ankara on August 18, 2023. Emine Şenyaşar’s husband Hacı Esvet Şenyaşar and her two sons Adil Şenyaşar and Celal Şenyaşar were killed after a quarrel took between the Justice and Development Party (AKP) deputy candidate İbrahim Halil Yıldız, his guards and the local shopkeepers in Suruç district of Urfa on June 14, 2018.
(08/123) Police Intervention to Press Declaration in Istanbul…
The police intervened in the press declaration of Saturday Mothers/People held at the Galatasaray Square of Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on August 19, 2023, and detained 21 people including the Human Rights Association (HRA) central executive board member Osman İşçi, the HRA Istanbul branch secretary and a person named Canan Yıldırım who reacted against the police violence. The police handcuffed 8 of the detainees behind their backs. It is learned that the police prevented journalists from recording the intervention. Detained people were released after statement procedures on the same day. Detained people were: Hanife Yıldız, Mikail Kırbayır, Osman İşçi, Ali Tosun, İkbal Eren, Ali Ocak, Oya Ersoy, Leman Yurtsever, İsmail Yüce, Nimet Tanrıkulu, Cüneyt Yılmaz, Ömer Kavran, Deniz Aytaç, Davut Arslan, Nazım Dikbaş, Eren Baskın, Yusuf Ardaş, Esma Nur Yıldız, Selim Derelioğlu, Begali Kurnaz and Canan Yıldırım.

The police prevented the press declaration to be held in Adana on August 19, 2023 to support Saturday Mothers/People, on the grounds of the governorate’s ban. The press declaration was held in front of the HRA Adana provincial office.

The gendarmerie intervened in the commemoration of the YSP held for Bazo Yılmaz, former mayor of Yukarı Göklü town who died in prison on August 19, 2022, and detained 3 people. Detained people were released after statement procedures on the same day. YSP made a declaration and stated that Urfa MP Ömer Öcalan was attempted to be detained and was taken to the station by the gendarmerie.
Detained people were: YSP Urfa provincial co-spokesperson Senem Eriş, YSP member Enes Rakım and YSP Urfa MP Ömer Öcalan’s adviser Nuh Mert Turan.

The police prevented the people leaving the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) and YSP provincial office to participate in the press declaration to protest the attack attempt on the joint office of HDP and YSP in Adana on August 20, 2023. It is learned that the police intervened in the people gathering in front of the office. It is reported that nobody was detained.

Musicians Doğan Tarda, known as Heijan, Samet Işık, known as BIG, Şahan Terzioğlu, known as CAC, were detained on August 18, 2023 on charges of ‘provoking hatred and hostility and degrading’, ‘praising the offense and offender’, ‘inciting to commit a crime’. 3 musicians were released by the court on judicial control conditions on August 19, 2023.

It is learned that a person named N. D. who was detained on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ in Muratpaşa district of Antalya on August 19, 2023 was arrested by the court.

Musician Emel Çiftçi who was reported to receive cancer treatment, was detained through an Ankara based investigation on August 21, 2023 at the hospital in Diyarbakır where she went for treatment. Emel Çiftçi was arrested by the court on the same day on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 18, 2023 that, Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against Can Ataklı on the grounds of ‘publicly inciting hatred and hostility’ over his expressions on social media about the religious education given to children in the ‘Baby Library and Yenikent Mother-Child Playhouse’ by Sincan Municipality.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 20, 2023 that the final trial of the case against 2 soldiers (A. D. and O. K.) on the charge of sexual assault to an Afghan asylum seeker woman (L. M.) in an Iran-Turkey border post on January 4, 2023, was held at Van Heavy Penal Court No. 5 on June 8, 2023. The court sentenced A. D. to 31 years and 6 months and O. K. to 37 years and 1 month on the charges of ‘sexual assault’ and ‘deprivation of liberty’.

On August 20, 2023, 3 plastic bottles containing flammable and explosive materials were left by 2 people at the door of the joint office of HDP and YSP in Adana.
It is learned from the news coverage that, A. C. one of those 2 people who was captured by HSP executives and handed over to the police, said “Who are you, the police sent me. Who sent you?” The other person who was detained in the incident was released on August 21, 2023.
Adana Governorate’s Office made a statement regarding the incident and said: “The person who carried out the incident was A. C., born in Osmaniye in 1997. It was determined that after being caught by our police units the person confirmed that he left the materials, gave inconsistent answers about the reason, and it was evaluated that his mental health balance was not in place.”

It is learned from the news coverage of August 18, 2023 that any kind of events as part of “Justice Meeting for Can Atalay” for the Workers’ Party of Turkey (TIP) Hatay MP Can Atalay who was not released from prison after being elected as a deputy, was banned by Izmit district governorate’s office in Kocaeli for 7 days.
