According to news reports published on 17 September 2026, it emerged that three female journalists in the Haliliye district of Urfa were subjected to verbal and physical attacks by one individual whilst covering a story, and that one journalist was injured as a result of the attack.
(09/111) Prisoner Whose Release Was Postponed by a Decision of the Prison Administration and Monitoring Board…
According to news reports published on 18 September 2026, it has been learned that the release of a prisoner named İzzethan Aykut, who is being held at Afyon No. 1 T-Type Prison and has served his life sentence in full, has been adjourned for three months by the Prison Administration and Observation Board (CİGK) on the grounds that he was ‘not of good behaviour’.

Journalist Aziz Deniz was detained in Kayseri on 18 September 2026 on the grounds of social media posts and was released the same day following questioning by the police.

Mertcan Titiz, Co-Chairperson of the Socialist Refounding Party (SYKP), who was detained in Ankara as part of an investigation centred in Istanbul and subsequently taken to Istanbul, was released on 17 September 2026 following police questioning.
(09/114) Trial of a Journalist in Ankara…
The trial of journalist Alican Uludağ, brought before the Ankara Criminal Court of First Instance No. 57 on the grounds of his news reports and social media posts, continued on 18 September 2026. The indictment seeks the prosecution of Alican Uludağ on charges of “publicly disseminating misleading information”, “insulting the President” and “publicly disparaging the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the state’s judicial organs”. The court adjourned the hearing until 22 December 2026.
Alican Uludağ was detained on 19 February 2026, remanded in custody on 20 February 2026, and was released at the first hearing of the case against him, held on 21 May 2026.
(09/115) The Trial of a Journalist in Istanbul…
The trial of journalist Elif Bayburt, which was brought before the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 24, began on 17 September 2026. The indictment seeks the journalist’s conviction on the charge of ‘membership of an organisation’. The court ruled to release Elif Bayburt and adjourned the hearing until 10 December 2026.
Elif Bayburt was detained on 3 February 2026 and arrested on 5 February 2026.

On 8 July 2026, during a police intervention at a NATO protest held outside the Justice and Development Party (AKP) district headquarters in the Yenişehir district of Mersin, Elmas Kara and Enes Deniz Pazar, members of the Mersin Halkevi, were detained and arrested. The trial against them, which was initiated at the Mersin Magistrates’ Court, began on 17 September 2026. The court ruled that the two should remain in prison and adjourned the hearing until 1 October 2026.

According to news reports published on 17 September 2026, it was learnt that five individuals who were expelled from the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) on the grounds of the slogans they chanted during the graduation ceremony held at the Land Forces Academy on 30 August 2024 (Batuhan Gazi Kılıç, Ebru Eroğlu, Serhat Gündar, İzzet Talip Akarsu and Deniz Demirtaş) faced an investigation on charges “publicly insulting a public official” and “repeated defamation” following a criminal complaint filed by members of the High Disciplinary Board who issued the decision and that five individuals have been called for questioning.

According to news reports published on 17 September 2026, it has been reported that, following a decision by the Istanbul Magistrates’ Court No. 1, access to 246 social media accounts and web addresses has been blocked on the grounds that they had made speculative posts likely to cause fear and panic amongst investors regarding the capital markets.

On 18 September 2026, 21 people were detained in Izmir as part of an investigation launched into the organisation’s current structure.
