(11/147) Operations and Attacks…

The Ministry of National Defence announced that 1 soldier (Sinan İnak) died in the Claw-Lock military operation of the Turkish Armed Forces units into the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on November 17, 2022.

(11/148) Bomb Attack in Istanbul…

17 of 51 people who were detained in relation to the bomb attack in Istiklal Street of Beyoğlu district in Istanbul killed 6 people including 2 children, and wounded 81 people on November 13, 2022; were arrested by the court on November 17, 2022. Ahlam Albashır, the Syrian citizen who was claimed to be the assaulter was also arrested. The court released 3 people on judicial control conditions, and decided to deport 29 people. 2 of the detainees were released after statement procedures.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 17, 2022 that, Yunus Çınar, a prisoner in Trabzon Beşikdüzü T Type Prison was subjected to torture and ill-treatment of the correction officers.

(11/150) Hunger Strike in Prison…

It is learned that 3 prisoners (Faik Budak, Fatih Baran and Remzi Akyürek) in Konya Ereğli High Security Prison started an indefinite hunger strike to demand an end to right violations on November 16, 2022.

(11/151) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration which was made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on November 17, 2022 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(11/152) Detained Union Executive…

The Health and Social Services Employees’ Union (SES) member and former executive of Diyarbakır Medical Chamber Mustafa Yaşa, is detained in Diyarbakır on November 18, 2022. The reason for detention is unknown.

(11/153) Arrested Union Executive in Istanbul…

Bread Producers Union chair Cihan Kolivar, who was detained in Istanbul on November 8, 2022, on the grounds of “degrading the Turkish nation, the State of the Republic of Turkey, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the judicial organs of the state” in accordance with the Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code, by his words “Bread is the basic food of stupid societies. Since our society eat full of bread, we have such rulers in power for 20 years”, and was arrested by the court on the charge of “insulting the President” in a social media post on November 9, 2022; is released by the court upon his lawyer’s objection on November 17, 2022.

(11/154) Arrested Person in Adıyaman…

Adıgüzel Demirci, who was detained in Çelikhan district of Adıyaman on November 17, 2022 is arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on November 18, 2022.

(11/155) Semra Güzel Stripped of MP Status…

The Constitution and Justice Joint Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey decided by a majority of votes that the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Diyarbakır MP Semra Güzel, who was detained on September 2, 2022 after her legislative immunity was lifted, and was arrested by the court on September 3, 2022 will be stripped of her MP status, on the grounds that she did not attend 6 meetings of the General Assembly without an excuse. It is learned that the committee’s decision will be referred to the General Assembly.

(11/156) Konya/Meram Massacre Case…

The trial of the case against 11 people including 1 arrestee (Mehmet Altun), for the racist attack which killed 7 members of Dedeoğulları family in Meram district of Konya on July 30, 2021; is held at Konya Heavy Penal Court No. 4 on February 8, 2022. It is learned that a quarrel took place as the court board interrupted the lawyers of Dedeoğulları family, and that the lawyers and Çetin Dedeoğulları were taken out of the courtroom. The court sentenced Mehmet Altun to 7 times heavy life sentence, to 4 years for ‘damaging property by burning’, to 4 years for ‘violating the immunity of residence’, and to 2 years for ‘violating the Law on Firearms, Knives and Other Tools’. The court acquitted 10 people. Ali Keleş and Lütfi Keleş, other arrestees were released on October 28, 2022.

(11/157) Journalist on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against journalist Beritan Canözer, for social media posts of an account that does not belong to her, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 4 on November 17, 2022. The court sentenced Beritan Canözer to 3 years 1 month and 15 days on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’.

(11/158) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial against BirGün newspaper’s Editor-in-Chief Mustafa Kömüş, upon the complaint of former Treasury and Finance Minister Berat Albayrak is held at Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of First Instance No. 1 on November 18, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to March 28, 2023.

(11/159) Defenders on Trial in Manisa…

The trial of the case against 33 defenders, on the grounds of protesting the Geothermal Power Plant construction in the Hacıbektaşlı village of Salihli district of Manisa, is held at Salihli Penal Court of First Instance No. 5 on November 17, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to November 24, 2022.

(11/160) People on Trial in Istanbul…

It is learned that the indictment of Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office against 104 people who were detained by the police intervening in the commemorations held in Kadıköy district of Istanbul for the 7th year of Suruç Massacre, is accepted by Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of First Instance No. 40 on November 17, 2022.

(11/161) Police Raid to Association Office in Istanbul…

On November 17, 2022, the police raided the Kaktüs Young Women’s Association office in Kadıköy district of Istanbul during a commemoration event. It is learned that 11 people including the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) co-chair Özlem Gümüştaş and journalist Elif Bayburt, by using physical violence.

Detained people are released after statement procedures at the police on the same day.

Detained people were: Çiçek Otlu, Özlem Gümüştaş, Tanya Kara, Berfin Polat, Sinem Çelebi, Hacer Elçin, Leyla Can, Fatma Kanbolat, Meliha Kayacı, Songül Akbay and Elif Bayburt.

(11/162) Alevi Houses Marked in Mersin…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 17, 2022, that 5 apartments of Alevi people in a building in Yenişehir district of Mersin, were marked by an unidentified person or persons with a cross with red paint. It is reported that one person was detained by the police in relation to the attack.

(11/163) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

It is learned that 19 people were detained in house raids in Ankara on November 18, 2022.
