The final hearing of the trial against former members of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Hüda Kaya, who were charged with participating in the Kobanê protests on October 6–8, 2014, was held on June 17, 2025, at the Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 22. The indictment seeks the former member of parliament to be punished for “attempting to destroy the unity of the state and the integrity of the country,” “attempted murder,” “damage to property,” “detention,” “theft,” “looting,” “violation of the inviolability of workplaces and residences,” “burning the Turkish flag,” “violation of the Law on the Protection of Atatürk,” and “making propaganda for an organization.” The court ruled that there was no basis for punishment for the crime of “making propaganda for an organization” due to legislative immunity, but acquitted Hüda Kaya of all other charges.
Hüda Kaya was arrested on November 1, 2023, and released at a hearing on June 25, 2024.
