It is learned from the news coverage of February 17, 2022 that, the food given to prisoners in Diyarbakır High Security Prison No 1 contains foreign substances such as hair, glass and plastic.

It is learned that the appeal made on February 17, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan in order to visit him was not responded.

(02/236) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of Şişli Municipality workers in front of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) on February 17, 2022 and forced people away from the building by using physical violence.

The police intervened the press declaration which were made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on February 17, 2022 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(02/238) Detained People for Distributing Leaflets in Istanbul…

The police intervened the members of the Initiative for Solidarity with Prisoners (TDI) who were distributing leaflets about ill prisoners in Kadıköy district of Istanbul on February 17, 2022 and detained 3 people (Hüseyin İldan, Ercan Işık and Onur Can Bayrak) by using physical violence and handcuffing them behind their backs. Detained people are released after statement procedures on the same day.

5 people including Ziyadin Can, Kars branch executive of the Human Rights Association (IHD) and Turan Altun, provincial executive of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) who were detained in house raids in Kars on February 15, 2022, are released by the court on judicial control conditions on February 17, 2022.

Mezopotamya News Agency reporter Zeynep Durgut who was detained in Cizre district of Şırnak on February 14, 2022, is released after statement procedures at the prosecutor’s office on February 17, 2022.

9 people including Muhsine Özhan, co-chair of the Association for Solidarity of Prisoners’ Families (TUAY-DER) and Necmettin Yur, an executive of the association who were detained in Siirt on February 14, 2022, are released by the court on judicial control conditions on February 17, 2022.

HDP’s Party Assembly member Çiçek Arıç and HDP Derince district executive Ali Mengüloğlu who were detained in Kocaeli on February 15, 2022, are arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on February 17, 2022.

8 people (Bedrettin Kamış, Medeni Biliz, Şakir Biliz, Raşit Karabakan, Melik Altay, Ferhat Turan, Rehber Özyalçın, Nasır Külli) who were detained in house raids in Karayazı and Tekman districts of Erzurum on February 15, 2022 are released by the court on judicial control conditions on February 17, 2022.

3 people (Mehmet Emin Kaçar, Savaş Taşdemir, Ahmet Güneş) who were detained in central, Patnos and Taşlıçay districts of Ağrı on February 16, 2022, are arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on February 17, 2022.

22 of 43 people who were detained on the grounds of “being in preparation for actions” in house raids in Mersin on February 12, 2022 and following days are released by the court on judicial control conditions on February 17, 2022. It is learned that 1 person (a Syrian citizen) is still under custody.

20 of detainees were released by the court on judicial control conditions earlier.

8 people who were detained on the grounds of social media posts and activities in the Democratic Society Congress (DTK) in Mardin on February 14, 2022, are released by the court on judicial control conditions on February 17, 2022.

(02/247) Detained People in Şırnak…

14 people (Mehmet Celil Tokay, Barış Akçakaya, Serhat Sidar, Veli Kayaalp, Doğan Şavluk, Ziya Durmuş, Ramazan Söyler, Hüsnü Tokak, Turan Uçar, Selahattin Ormanlı, Ridvan Özmen, Nesim Sayın, Dicle Akdağ and Hasan with unknown surname) who were detained in Cizre and Silopi district of Şırnak on February 14, 2022 are released by the court on judicial control conditions on February 17, 2022.

3 of 6 people (Ahmet Özden, Mehmet Ali Özdemir, Ebubekir Aladağ) who were detained in Ağrı on February 16, 2022, are arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on February 17, 2022. 3 people (Dinçer Varol, Kemal Bakır, Niyazi Ergül) are released on judicial control conditions.

14 people including HDP Youth Assembly members who were detained in Van on February 13, 2022 and following days, are released after statement procedures at the prosecutor’s office on February 17, 2022.

(02/250) IHD Co-Chair on Trial…

The first trial of the case against IHD’s co-chair Eren Keskin, on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ in a social media post in 2018 and in a speech she gave in 2019, is held at Tunceli Heavy Penal Court No 2 on February 17, 2022. The court acquitted Eren Keskin.

(11/251) Newspaper Employees on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against 6 employees of Özgürlükçü Demokrasi newspaper which was closed down by a state of emergency decree, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 23 on February 17, 2022.

The court rejected to lift the ban on leaving the country and adjourned the trial to April 7, 2022.

The final trial of the case against journalist Gökhan Biçici, on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 8 on February 17, 2022. The court acquitted Gökhan Biçici.

(02/253) Journalist on Trial in Batman…

The trial of the case against Şerife Oruç, a reporter of Dicle News Agency which was closed down by a state of emergency decree, on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ is held at Batman Heavy Penal Court No 2 on February 17, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to March 24, 2022.

Şerife Oruç was arrested on July 5, 2016 and was released by the court on judicial control conditions on July 9, 2018.

(02/254) HDP MP on Trial…

It is learned that on February 17, 2022, the Penal Department No 9 of Diyarbakır Regional Court has approved the 6 years and 3 months of sentence on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ given by Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 4 in the case against HDP Antalya MP Kemal Bülbül through the investigation on the Democratic Society Congress (DTK).

The trial of the case against HDP Democratic Local Authorities Board member and former Edremit district co-mayor Sevil Rojbin Çetin is held at Van Heavy Penal Court No 2 on February 17, 2022

The indictment demands sentence for Sevil Rojbin Çetin on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

Sevil Rojbin Çetin joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system. After defence hearings the court decided to continue detention of Sevil Rojbin Çetin and adjourned the trial to May 12, 2022.

Sevil Rojbin Çetin was detained on June 26, 2020 in Diyarbakır and was arrested on July 7, 2020.

(02/256) “Istanbul KCK Main Case”…

The trial of the case against 205 people including members and executives of the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 3 on February 17, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to June 2, 2022.

(02/257) October 10 – Ankara Massacre Case…

The trial of the case against Erman Ekici and 16 fugitive defendants, for October 10 – Ankara Massacre, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 4 on February 17, 2022.

After defence and witness hearings the court adjourned the trial to May 12, 2022.

19 defendants have been sentenced to jail sentences on August 3, 2018, at the final trial of the case on October 10 – Ankara Massacre and the case against 16 fugitives was separated.

On February 17, 2022, 29 people are detained in Istanbul.

(02/259) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 258 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 92,406 as of February 16, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 91,646 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 13,266,265 as of February 16, 2022.
