(12/186) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1134 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on December 17, 2019 at 13.30, and at 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on December 17, 2019, 3 people (Merve Demirel and Mehmet Dersulu) and at 18.00 2 people (Nazan Bozkurt and Mehmet Dersulu) were detained.

Thus in total 4 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on December 17, 2019. It is learned detained people were released on the same days they were detained.

The police intervened and detained Nazan Bozkurt, participator of “I Want My Job Back” protests, who wants to have a press declaration on state of emergency decrees at Güvenpark in Ankara on December 17, 2019.

(12/188) Police Intervention to a Protest in Van…

The police prevented the press declaration of People’s Democratic Party (HDP) in Van to protest femicides and that Özgür Arduç, murderer of Ceren Özdemir, being taken to Van T Type Prison on December 17, 2019.

(12/189) Books and Newspapers Not Given in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 17, 2019 that Edirne F Type Prison administration did not give December 9 issue of Evrensel newspaper to HDP’s former co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş, on the grounds that it “jeopardizes security of the institution”. That issue of Evrensel was covering an interview with Selahattin Demirtaş.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 17, 2019 that 5 books that are sent to a prisoner in Van T Type Prison were not given on the grounds of a ban. However, there is no ban imposed on these books.

Ülkü Karaaslan and Mahmut Yalçın, co-mayors of Varto district and Eylem Saruca and Adnan Topçu, co-mayors of Bulanık district of Muş are detained in house raids on December 17, 2019.

(12/191) Detained HDP Executive in Diyarbakır…

People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Party Assembly member Zeynep Boğa who was detained on December 16, 2019 in Diyarbakır is released on December 17, 2019.

(12/192) Detained People in Malatya…

On December 17, 2019, 7 people are detained in house raids in Malatya. Detained people are: Ayşe Işık (former provincial chair of Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP), Sayime Tuncel and Hatice Zengin, executives of Pir Sultan Abdal Cultural Association (PSAKD), Betül Kurnaz Kılıç and HDP members Gule Doğan, Reyhan Bakır and Hatun Aydın.

On December 17, 2019, a person named F. S. is detained in a house raid in Adana. It is learned that people in the house were subjected to physical and verbal violence of the police.

(12/194) Detained People in Antalya…

11 of 29 people who were detained in Adana on December 6, 2019, are arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘financing an illegal organisation’ on December 17, 2019. 18 people are released.

(12/195) Prevention of Delivering Leaflets in Kocaeli…

It is learned that Turkish Metal Workers Union executives prevented Labour Party members from delivering leaflets in front of Kalibre aluminium factory in Kartepe district of Kocaeli.

(12/196) Medeni Yıldırım Case…

The case against Adem Çiftçi, a soldier on compulsory military service, for death of Medeni Yıldırım in Lice district of Diyarbakır on June 28, 2018, on Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 7 is held on December 17, 2019. Medeni Yıldırım was killed with a shot fired from military station during a march to protest the construction of a high security military station in Kalecik village of Lice. The indictment demands jail penalty up to 18 years for Adem Çiftçi for ‘killing with an eventual intent under unjust provocation’.

The court decided to ask the expert report from Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institution and adjourned the trial to February 20, 2020.

On December 17, 2019, 171 people are detained in Ankara; 17 people including military members on active duty are detained in operations covering 9 cities through an Urfa based investigation; and 10 people are detained in operations covering 5 cities through an Ankara based investigation on Ministry of Health personnel.

Bitlis Governorate made a declaration on December 17, 2019 and announced curfew in 46 villages of central district as of 06.00 until further notice. The villages under curfew are: Ayrancılar, Alaniçi, Narlıdere, Ağaçpınar, Yeşilsırt, Cumhuriyet, Abacılar, Sarıkonak, Çalıdüzü, İçgeçit, Akçalı, Yukarı Ölek, Aşağı Ölek, Ilıcak, Kalupat, Üçevler, Karakuş, Aşağı Balcılar, Yukarı Balcılar, Çeltikli, Aşağı Koçak, Aşağı Yolak, Yukarı Yolak, Yukarıçerman, Dursun, Beşkaynak, Yarönü, Uçankuş, Dikme, Yukarı Dikme, Aşağı Dikme, Bayırlı, Kınalı, Kutlu, Akgün, Çobansuyu, Aşağı Çobansuyu, Güllüce, Esenburun, Harmanyeri, Cevizdalı, Karaca, Kaşıklı, Konalga, Kayalıbağ, Dutköy.

Mardin Governorate made a declaration on December 17, 2019 and announced curfew in Konur neighbourhood of Mazıdağı district as of 23.00 on December 16, 2019. The curfew is lifted by Mardin Governorate as of 19.00 on December 17, 2019.

Mardin Governorate made a declaration on December 17, 2019 and announced curfew in Çayköy neighbourhood of Derik district as of 23.00 on December 16, 2019. The curfew is lifted by Mardin Governorate as of 19.00 on December 17, 2019.

(12/201) Proceedings Against Parliamentary Member…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 17, 2019 that, 5 separate proceedings demanding lift of impunity of HDP co-chair Sezai Temelli are submitted to Grand National Assembly.

(12/202) Attack to a Political Party Office…

It is learned that HDP’s district office in Kulp district of Diyarbakır is attacked by anonymous people on December 17, 2019. It is learned that police did not come to the scene for investigation, on the grounds that “the owner did not make official complaint”.
