(08/165) Flood in Kastamonu, Sinop and Bartın…
The Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) declared that the flood hitting several provinces in Western Black Sea region on August 11, 2021 killed 78 people as of August 18, 2021. The number of deceased people is 62 in Kastamonu, 15 in Sinop and 1 in Bartın.
(08/166) Racist Attack in Antalya…
It is learned that Erhan Sevim was stopped by a racist group checking the identity cards of drivers and passengers, while he was travelling with his family in Kepez district of Antalya on August 17, 2021. It is learned that Erhan Sevim was forced out of his car and was subjected to the attack of the racist group.
Erhan Sevim stated the following to the press: “We saw a group of 5 people blocking the road. I asked ‘Are you police officers?’ and they said ‘Give us tour identity card, where are you from?’. I told them I was from Adıyaman, and they forcibly open the car door and took me off. They started to beat me as they forced me out. I did not understand what was happening. They both insulted me and said ‘You dirty Kurds, get off or we will burn you’ to threaten. My wife got off the car and screamed for help. Two cars were coming across the road. When they stopped, the persons who were beating me ran away to a parking car ahead.”

It is learned that the appeal made on August 17, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was not responded.
(08/168) People Detained at HDP’s Event in Istanbul…
It is learned that 11 people including 4 children have been detained on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ at the festival of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in Esenyurt district of Istanbul on August 17, 2021. 11 people are released after statement procedures on the same day.

13 people who have been detained on the grounds of ‘being an illegal organisation’ and ‘acting on behalf of an illegal organisation’ in Mersin on August 9, 2021, are released by the court on judicial control conditions on August 17, 2021.

6 people are detained for hanging banners saying “Border is honour” and “I Do Not Want Refugees in My Country” in several places in Istanbul on August 17, 2021; and they are released by the court on judicial control conditions on the same day.

It is learned that a content published on the website https://ifade.org.tr/ of the Freedom of Expression Association is banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights, by Büyükçekmece Penal Court of Peace No 2 on August 17, 2021.
(08/172) Covid-19 Pandemic…
The Ministry of Health declared that 183 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 21,692 as of August 17, 2021.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 53,505 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 6,118,508 as of August 17, 2021.
