It is learned from news coverage of April 17, 2025 that, 2 high school students (names unknown) were detained for their speeches in front of the high school after the press declaration in Bursa for the release of arrested students.

On April 17, 2025, private security units intervened the gathering of “Boycott Committee” in front of the Rectorate building in Istanbul Yıldız Technical University campus, on the grounds of LGBTI+ flag. It is learned that students were subjected to physical violence during the intervention.

On April 17, 2025, 5 people including A.B., Deputy Mayor of Kemalpaşa district of Izmir, are detained on the grounds of irregularities in the expenses of a concert organized by the municipality in 2024, which was cancelled afterwards.

Journalist Rasim Ozan Kütahyalı was detained on April 17, 2025 in Bolu due to ‘publicly spreading misleading information’ through a social media post he made. Rasim Ozan Kütahyalı was released by the criminal court of peace on the same day on judicial control conditions with a ban on leaving the country.

On April 18, 2025, 1 person who came to Çağlayan Courthouse to attend the hearing of the case against him for participating in the protests at Saraçhane Square in Fatih district of Istanbul, to protest detention and arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, is detained by the police using physical violence. The name of the detained person could not be learned.

The first trial of the case against 99 people including 8 journalists (Yasin Akgül, Bülent Kılıç, Zeynep Kuray, Emre Orman, Gökhan Kam, Kurtuluş Arı, Ali Onur Tosun, Ali Onur Tosun, Hayri Tunç) and 4 lawyers, for participating in the protests at Saraçhane and Beyazıt Squares in Fatih district of Istanbul to protest the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, started on April 18, 2025 at Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance No 62. The indictment demands sentence for the defendants on the charge of ‘violating Law No 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations’. The court decided to separate the cases of 8 journalists and 4 lawyers and adjourned the trial to October 3, 2025.

The first trial of the case against 90 people for participating in the protests at Saraçhane Square in Fatih district of Istanbul to protest detention and arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, started on April 18, 2025 at the Criminal Court of First Instance No 65. The indictment demands sentence for the defendants on the charge of ‘violating Law No 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations’. Due to the high number of defendants in the case and inadequacy of the physical conditions of the courtroom, the court decided to separate the cases of the first 45 defendants and adjourned the trial to July 4, 2025.

The final trial of the case against Güler Yerbasan Tunç, co-mayor of Cizre district of Şırnak, for the press declaration made on November 25, 2022 in Uludere district of Şırnak for November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, was held at Uludere Criminal Court of First Instance on April 17, 2025. The court sentenced Güler Yerbasan Tunç to 1 year and 3 months on the charge of ‘opposing to Law No 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations’.

The trial of the case against journalist Naci Sapan, based on a column he wrote, continued on April 17, 2025 at Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No 5. The indictment demands sentence for the journalist on the charge of ‘insult’. The court adjourned the trial to May 20, 2025.

On April 17, 2025, the trial of the case against Ahmet Yıldız, who was murdered by his father on July 15, 2008 because he was gay, continued at Istanbul Anadolu Heavy Penal Court No 5. The court rejected to hear Ahmet Yıldız’s mother and sister as witnesses and adjourned the trial to December 25, 2025.

On April 18, 2025, 10 people were detained in operations conducted in Izmir, Ankara, Istanbul, Kocaeli and Antalya through an Izmir based investigation on the allegations of ‘operating in the military intimate structure of the organization’.
