It is learned from the news coverage of September 16, 2021 that, 1 militant died in a clash between Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Zap area of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on September 3, 2021; and 2 militants died in another clash in the same place on May 2, 2021.
(09/142) Arrested Furkan Foundation Members in Adana…
3 members of the Furkan Foundation have been detained on September 10, 2021 and were released on judicial control conditions on September 14, 2021. It is learned that 2 of them (Y. T. and H. A.) were detained once again upon the prosecutor’s objection and were arrested by the court on September 16, 2021.
(09/143) Detained People in Diyarbakır for Participating in a Protest…
It is learned that at least 7 people are detained in house raids in Lice district of Diyarbakır, for participating in the protest against Dicle Electricity Distribution Company. Detained people are: Bayram Aygürt, Ferit Doman, Ferdi Erdinç, Reşat Taşdemir, Arif Bozkuş, Kadir Doster and Yılmaz Şanlı.

The trial of the case against 27 people including Etkin News Agency reporter Meşale Tolu and writer Mukaddes Erdoğdu Çelik, on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 29 is held on July 14, 2020. The prosecutor declared legal opinion on the case and demanded sentence for 13 people on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and demanded acquittal of 14 people. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to December 24, 2021.

The trial of the case against specialised sergeant Musa Orhan, for sexually assaulting a child (Ipek Er) and driving her suicide, is held at Siirt Heavy Penal Court No 1 on September 16, 2021.
The indictment demands jail sentence for Musa Orhan on the charge of ‘sexual assault’.
The court rejected to arrest Musa Orhan, and adjourned the trial to December 3, 2021.
Ipek Er committed suicide after she was subjected to sexual assault by specialised sergeant Musa Orhan, and lost her life in hospital on August 18, 2020. Musa Orhan was arrested on the same day, but he was released upon his lawyer’s appeal on August 25, 2020.
(09/146) June 5 – Diyarbakır Case…
The trial of case against 14 police officers for ‘official misconduct’ related to the bombing attack to HDP’s rally in Diyarbakır on June 5, 2015, is held at Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No 14 on September 16, 2021. The prosecutor declared legal opinion on the case and demanded jail sentence from 3 months to 1 year for 10 police officers on the charge of ‘misuse of public duty’, and demanded acquittal for 4 people. The court adjourned the trial.

It is learned that an investigation is launched against lawyer Yakup Ataş, the Human Rights Association (IHD) Adana branch chair, on the grounds of the declaration on Armenian Genocide made at the branch office on April 24, 2021. It is reported that Yakup Ataş made his official statement through the investigation to the prosecutor’s office on September 16, 2021.

It is learned on September 16, 2021 that Izmir Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against Kemal Okuyan, general secretary of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) for a speech he made on television. It is learned that Kemal Okuyan made his official statement through the investigation on the charge of ‘inciting worry, fear and panic among public’.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 16, 2021 that, an administrative investigation was launched against 1700 health workers including 800 primary care physicians, for participating in the strike actions on August 16 and 27, 2021 to protest new regulations of the Ministry of Health. It is learned that health workers were imposed to 2 days of forfeiture of allowance before the investigation is completed.

It is learned that the news reports about detention of the founders of Altınbaş University, published on https://halktv.com.tr, https://www.gazeteduvar.com.tr and https://www.gercekgundem.com websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Bolu Mudurnu Penal Court of Peace on September 16, 2021.

The final trial of the case against Hakan Kuytul is held at Adana Heavy Penal Court No 11 on September 16, 2021. The court sentenced the defendant to 2 years and 6 months on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.
(09/152) Covid-19 Pandemic…
The Ministry of Health declared that 262 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 28,118 as of September 16, 2021.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 61,329 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 6,743,400 as of September 16, 2021.
On September 16, 2021, health officer Ali Avni Silleli in Kırıkkale lost his life due to Covid-19.
It is learned from the news coverage of September 16, 2021 that, 1 prisoner tested positive for Covid-19 in Diyarbakır D Type Prison.
